Mix grill appetizer

This restaurant is away from the tourist in northern side of the island. Since Venice is quite small, it's really easy to get to with the help of google map. Walk in usually won't be a table, so reservation is a MUST, not just recommended. The menu is small, based on their seasonal catch. So not much to choose from. Mostly seafood but they do have meat options. Food is delicious. Service is very attentive.

Reservations are a MUST. We called around 6pm on a Saturday night and we're lucky to get a table for two at 730 just after opening. Others were turned away as the restaurant was fully booked, and they correctly stated that most places require a reservation, particularly on the weekend. Atmosphere was very charming patio dining tucked away in a quiet square of Venice, away from the hustle and bustle. Service was quick by two strapping Italian waiters who spoke good English. Menu is only in Italian, but these fine gentlemen are happy to translate. The food was quite good and well priced. I enjoyed the duck Ragu was just okay, I preferred the seafood antipasta (grilled octopus and shrimps) but definitely felt portions were a bit small. Still, was happy with food and service, and the quaint neighborhood setting.

Burrata

After spending three weeks throughout Switzerland and Italy, this is easily the best meal that we had. We ordered the grilled octopus, burrata, tagliatelle, ragu, and gnocchi. Each dish was fantastic. My son is a trained chef and he said it was the best gnocchi that he's ever had. This place is a hidden gem. The next night, out of desperation, we ate at another restaurant that had an overall rating of 4.7 and it was hands down the worst meal of my life. They must be having their friends and family add fake reviews. But as for this place, it's the real deal. Don't miss it if you're in Venice!

Dessert: mascarpone cream (eggy and wonderful)

Osteria alla Frasca is a charming little place; this was definitely the best restaurant I tried in Venice. I came here for a leisurely lunch. FOOD **** Grilled octopus was good, fresh, with some parts crunchy and charred. 4 stars. *** Grilled seafood (fish and scampi) was fine. Simple. 3 stars. ***** For dessert, I had mascarpone cream which was deliciously eggy and wonderful. So simple. So good. 5 stars. Bread was so-so. It was served in a cute little cloth bag. SERVICE was good & helpful.

(4.5 stars) Dinner here was such a lovely experience. We were the only reservation of the late evening and so we had the small restaurant to ourselves. It was the intimate Venice dining experience you dream about. The owner was incredibly friendly and attentive, told us all about life in Venice and genuinely cared that we enjoyed the meal, which isn't hard to do after having a glass or two of their wonderful cabernet. The squid ink pasta is an absolute must. It's the real deal (you're lips and teeth will turn black) but it's unforgettably fresh and vibrant. I could eat a bowl of that any time of day. The gnocchi was also lovely, light and fresh. I wish it had a little bit more richness but the seafood was so freaken fresh. Don't leave here without trying the tiramisu either: It's creamy and homey, but also bright and biting. A great ending to a relaxingly peaceful evening.

On a summer night in Venice my husband and I wanted a special meal to celebrate our anniversary. We decided to try this place because of the great reviews and... it was perfect! It was a bit of a walk from where we were but in Venice you walk. It's hidden from the many tourists, which is perfect! The food was amazing and the service superb! For appetizers we had the grilled octopus (made to perfection ) and the whipped cod on a bed of warm polenta. I'm usually not a big fan of cod but that dish was delicious!!!! We then shared a linguine with fresh seafood and topped it off with a creme brûlée... not just any creme brûlée but COFFEE creme brûlée... YUM! We will be back someday!

Great food at reasonable prices. We started with the gnocchi and shrimp and I had the mixed grill and my wife had the sea bass - everything was outstanding. Beautiful, quiet location away from the tourist area. Limited seating so a reservation is recommended. The owner, Bruno, was great!

Sea Bass with eggplant

It was Thanksgiving Day and I was traveling alone in Italy so I wanted to find somewhere special and delicious to celebrate all that I am thankful for while solo. And I managed to find one of the best spots in all of Venice. Osteria Alla Frasca is cozy and intimate. Maybe not fancy, but elegantly humble. There are 5 tables for 2 (or seating for 10) inside, as well as a few more tables outside. It is tucked away on an out-of-the-way residential block, which adds to its charm and authenticity. It isn't hard to get to though, only a 2 minute walk from the F.Te Nove boat stop. It is on a corner with dim lighting and candles flickering on the tables. The host is happy to greet you and make conversation as well as advise on the menu (which is all in Italian). I knew I probably wanted the sea bass (€22) when I walked in, so there weren't a lot of decisions O had to make. I was told that eggplant would be replacing the normal mushrooms on the sea bass but I actually prefer that so I readily agreed. While waiting with some bread and a 1/2L of Prosecco (€10) I was able to chat a bit with the host and examine the posters of seafood on the wall. The wait was just about 15 minutes until my sea bass arrived piping hot and fried to a flaky golden crust. And it was everything I had hoped for. It had just the right amount of fried crunch to go with the melt in your mouth flesh full of flavor. It really was prepared to perfection. For dessert (because what American doesn't have dessert on Thanksgiving?), I went with my always-favorite, the tiramisu (€6). It was amazing as I'd hoped and was the perfect complement to the fine main course. After, I was suggested a shot of espresso (€2) which I agreed to because it goes so well with tiramisu. Again, just what I didn't realize I needed. Finally, I was surprised to learn that the espresso is accompanied by a complimentary glass of grappa - a strong grape based Italian brandy. I wasn't actually sure I'd be able to handle the grappa at this point, but he told me I'd be able to walk out into the brisk night without my jacket after, and sure enough he was right. 15 minutes later I walked out in great spirits and without wearing my jacket. If you're in Venice and searching for seafood, Osteria Alla Frasca is one I highly recommend.

The Gnocchi was delicious. The bread was as delicious as found in France. It's in a quiet area away from tourists.

I don't know which Italian families started the rumor of dime before going to Venice, but I'm here to tell you, it's just that. A rumor. We discovered a locally enjoyed Trattoria that has literally the best lasagna I've ever had. If I could enjoy this every day, I would be there in a heartbeat. The lasagna noodles, and all of the ingredients are all made in-house, and made in very small, limited quantities. The sauce, the béchamel, the pairing with the pasta is perfection. It's plated as if you were sitting in someone's kitchen, if not your own. It's not necessarily pretty to look at, but damn... When I tell you that this is the best lasagna I've ever had, it truly is. Even the bread that is routinely served, and by the way you are charged for it, not only is made in the house, but taste like love. Many tourists seem to pass this place by, and it absolutely is enjoyed by locals and frankly, if you know you know. I'm here to tell you, this is a place you need to know. The woman that was seated next to us, enjoyed a lovely, large salad, that she said she has every day, along with branzino. She said that they are her daily go to for meal, while she enjoys a glass of wine and reading a book. She praised us for discovering the restaurant, and she was tired of seeing locals that she knows lol. Add this to your must try list when in Venice, Italy. The family that owns and runs this restaurant, scurries about as they are very attentive to keeping people moving in and out of the restaurant as needed, filling, glasses, bringing food to the tables, and keeping their customers happy. The father and son that were there, are really nice, and very welcoming!

So, what happened here you might ask? We walked by this restaurant a day before our experience. A lively place selling tasty-looking seafood. Checked the ratings, looked all fine. So we decided to come back the next day to get some nice early dinner. We wanted to sit inside actually, but were told to get a table outside. Looked like rain soon - which luckily didn't arrive. Our waiter seemed rushed and not really in a good mood from the start. Got handed the menu. But there's a nice counter inside with all kinds of nice fish and seafood. That's actually what we came for. We asked the waiter on how to order that, but were told "no need to rush" without further explanation and left. So my wife went inside to have a look, since we didn't find that on the menu card we've got. She ordered a nice plate of mixed seafood inside. Which somewhat angered our waiter. I was still reading the menu for some more dishes to order. Waiter took it out of my hand, telling me "you don't need that anymore, you already ordered". Yeah, some. But we wanted more. But we made a decision that moment to leave it and to stop ordering more. Really weren't in the mood for food anymore. Shortly after he arrived with the mixed seafood. And that was actually very tasty. Fantastic even. Had two glasses of white wine with if, tasty as well, but not cheap. After less than half an hour we decided to pay and leave. Even great, we didn't enjoy it much anymore. Asked for the bill, our waiter arrived with it shortly after. Then the reason for the one-star review came (actually reason enough at that point already). My wife merely asked if she could pay with a credit card. "Be quiet!" was the answer. Yes! Be Quiet...to my wife! These exact words. Not because of a language barrier (his english was more than fine), not because of a misunderstanding. Plain and simple rudeness. I hope his mother is proud of him. How dare you talk to a woman, to a paying guest like that. If my wife wouldn't have signaled me to stay calm, I would have caused a very big scene at that moment. But we were on vacation. We won't a moment like this kill our mood for the rest of the trip. But at that moment I was cooking inside. A verbal attack like this I've never encountered. I've read some more reviews later. It seems not the first time that service here is out of line. It's a shame. The food is wonderful. Not cheap though, paid almost 50 Euros! Coperta is a normal thing, but here a bit higher than elsewhere. And this is the first time I've thought that the coperta was not deserved. Almost took it off the bill, but we didn't want to cause a bigger fight. Not sure what was/is wrong with this certain waiter. A dislike to tourists? A bad day? But: there's no reason to treat us like this. THE worst service experience we've ever had. And that means something. If you read up on my reviews here on Yelp and other platforms you'll see that bad reviews like this rarely happen. Nothing's gonna happen to Mr. Friendly anyway job-wise. But I wish at least he would be told by his boss. Then again, one day he'll meet guests that won't hold back if he acts like this again. And I find comfort in that.

So we came here for an early dinner (around 5pm), kitchen is open through! Took a nice table inside by the window. Our Bulldog was welcome as well. Staff/owner very friendly, helpful and made us feel very welcome here. Inside it's a nice, cosy atmosphere. Good selection of wine on the menu as well. For all kinds of budgets. And at the counter a nice display of all kinds of seafood. Lovely place. We've ordered the Crudo di Mare plate and Spaghetti Vongole. And a .375ml bottle of their white house wine, which turned out to be a good pairing with the seafood. Both dishes were excellent! Plenty of Vongole (clams) in the pasta dish, Spaghetti were perfectly cooked. Vongole were nice and fresh and the dish perfectly spiced (not too much, which is good). A real highlight definitely the Crudo di Mare. Two langoustines (so nice and sweet flavour), two red shrimp. scallops, tuna, swordfish, oysters and tuna tartare. All fresh, all tasty. An excellent mix of wonderful fish and seafood. Quality wise along on top with the best ones we've had so far (we love Crudo di Mare). And all is nicely presented. Really made our day, this meal here. After the meal we even got some aperitif on the house. A wonderful place. Feels very relaxed, lots of great items on the menu. And really fair prices, this is a real gem here with great value. And we will definitely be back next time in Venice. Highly recommended!
