Assisi itself is astoundingly beautiful and the Nun fits right in, blending historical architectural elements with modern amenities and comforts. The staff knew what being a five-star hotel requires - they foresaw what we might need or want during the visit and made sure we had it: spa intro, restaurant recommendations, and a little prosecco. The entire campus is spotless, I could have slept anywhere. Bravo to the team here, they have put together an astounding product.

I felt like a local walking into my Tuscan home each night. We had two rooms which were next to each other and shared a common sitting area. The common area was a great place to read and play cards. There are homemade snacks all around for your enjoyment. If you want a bottle of wine, there are plenty all around the place. Our room was spacious and bed and pillows comfortable. The breakfast, oh the breakfast, it was amazing. Homemade cakes, fresh fruit, cooked to order eggs, cheeses, meats,.... There was so much food! It was outstanding. The staff was wonderful in helping us with reservations and such. Absolutely loved this place.

Choosing to stay at Il Tosco will take it from perfect to sublime. This property is a labor of love owned by a family and run by the same. You will quickly realize that as impossible as it seems, this project of theirs is more driven by their need for perfection than money. The breakfast that comes with the room is ridiculously elaborate and delicious. There are only 4 rooms, but every morning you walk into walls lined with food. Fruits and meats, cheeses and pastries, egg dishes, grilled vegetables cakes cakes and more cakes, breads, jams, jellies, juices, what ever kind of coffee or expresso or tea you wish, etc etc. Had to add the etcs because I know I'm leaving things out. The bedrooms are large and appointed with antiques while being also thoroughly modern. The bathroom was expansive, contemporary. The linens on the bed gorgeous. You will be made to feel at home and the gracious hospitality offered covered our every wish, without ever being obtrusive.

Up on a hillside outside of Assisi, it's a quick drive to town but feels a world away from the crowded tourist sites. Our stay at Letizia's immaculate agriturismo inn was everything we wanted (except for maybe not staying longer.) She and her husband are hospitable hosts and take pride in their incredibly beautiful restored farm house. The rooms are minimal and simple but perfect for the setting. The highlight of our stay was definitely the several hour cooking class that my husband and I took. We made a feast with Letizia's assistance and enjoyed the fruits of our labors on the terrace overlooking Assisi. We feasted so much on our well earned lunch that we skipped dinner that night. Of course Assisi is known the church of St. Francis, but there's a rich and beautiful countryside to be found just outside the city walls, and Alla Madonna is the place to experience it.

We then spent the last few days at Villa Rey and it was the BEST way to relax after days of traveling! Not only is Villa Rey beautiful(!) and it's location great for day trips to nearby towns, but Silvia and Jürgen are the most hospitable hosts anyone could ask for! From the moment we arrived we were made to feel comfortable and welcome (and who doesn't want to be handed a glass of cool wine on a hot day made with grapes from vineyards located just feet behind the pool??). Our room and private bath were so lovely and spacious and we had a gorgeous view of the Tuscan countryside. The pool was always a sparkling blue and so wonderful after a day of sightseeing. And, if we ever unsure what area or town to visit next, they were right on hand to make suggestions and then tell us why we should visit and what we should make sure to see. I'm sure we would have missed some of the charming villages we visited without their suggestions. The daily breakfasts were so nice and catered to a wide variety of tastes. No matter what your preferences are, you would have easily found something to satisfy you. The dinners were even more amazing. Their chef, Raffaele, is an artist when it comes to food (although he's too humble to take all the compliments we felt he deserved). Dinner each night was a five course meal but never heavy or overwhelming, beautiful in flavor and texture but light to eat. The end of each meal left me feeling satisfied but not weighted down. The meals were also accompanied by wines made from the grapes grown in the vineyards just behind the pool. A perfect accompaniment to the delicious meals. We definitely hope to return to Villa Rey in the future to take advantage of all they have to offer. If you're looking for a comfortable and unique place to stay in Tuscany, with amazing views, wonderful hosts, food to die for and a relaxed atmosphere, stop looking, Villa Rey is the place for you!
