She also has children and understood the urgency of my situation. Sandi and her husband came to my house the same day by clearing her schedule and finding a baby sitter for her children. She did all the setup required in our family room very quickly while we were getting ready. On top of all this, she took wonderful photos that my family absolutely loved. She wanted to ensure she got the best pictures she could even though we went over the scheduled time. She was very patient with both my 4 year old and 2 year old daughter and took the time to ensure she got good photos. We purchased the 'Everything but the Dress' package and it was truly a stress-free process. Andrea and John have been truly wonderful to work with, very responsive to messages, and very accomodating to our requests. About 3 months before the Wedding Day, we had an Engagement Photo Session, and the photos were so beautiful we used one for our wedding invitations! On the Big Day, the venue was so beautiful, the cake was delightful, the hors d'oeuvres were plenty and delicious! Andrea has perfectly captured our wedding colors through the cake, boutonnieres, and the bridal party bouquets which were just stunning to look at! John was excellent, and he also put some humor into the ceremony! He worked with me in outlining the ceremony, as well as my music choices (I have given him too many music selections!). The ceremony was amazing and everything went smoothly! Andrea has kept me up-to-date with all developments with the wedding planning. She made sure everything was perfect! She took beautiful photos throughout the day, before the ceremony in the bridal suite, during the ceremony (capturing all the most precious moments), and after the ceremony for portraits with the family. She made sure all the guests were happy and taken care of. As a bride on her wedding day, it could be easy to forget some moments as the day goes by really fast, and it could get overwhelming, but the photos have made me remember how magical the day was, and the experience made me really say to myself: 'I do not want this day to end'. John and Andrea were incredibly nice and accommodating to what we wanted our wedding to be. The wedding package that we chose took care of the entire ceremony for us... we just had to show-up in our attire and enjoy ourselves. We gave Andrea our colors, met with the baker, Katherine Lima, to chose our cake and chose to include the Ilaria Duet as our musical option, but beyond that, we didn't have to do much. John was phenomenal and made the entire ceremony flow very smoothly. Andrea, along with her assistant, captured the entire day for us in photographs; we have so many amazing pictures to choose from for our wedding album. To our surprise, there were 2 videographers present as well to capture the ceremony in video. Pros: The grounds are beautiful and we really enjoyed our tent. Huckleberry was private and had the best view of the lake. The bed was super comfortable and had luxury linens. The soaker tub was great and we loved the fridge and coffee maker. The staff were extremely friendly! The live music at night was amazing! Jeff on the second night was incredible! His voice was outstanding! Cons: The price is insane and not a great value for money. You will pay $1,000 per day. We ended up paying 2K for 1.5 days. For that price, we could stay in a Deluxe suite at the Shangri-La hotel in Toronto for 2 nights. The food was good, but for what we paid, it was not at all worth it. For example, for dinner the first night, we had burgers. As a foodie, I have had some over the top burgers-truffle, foie gras, pork belly, lamb, etc. These were normal burgers with a bunch of toppings they provided with salad. One day they did chicken tacos. Again for the price we paid, we should have had lobster tacos or filet. Also drinks were not included. There was a glass of wine at dinner. For the price, it should be all Inclusive or allow guests to bring their own and be able to drink in common places. Our friends there said the s'mores were not good and costed them $8. Also our friends got the pizza and it was $30. The pizza was like a microwave pizza. The place even has wood fire pizzas. Also I am not a big fan of breakfast and I organized with Nina the venue coordinator to have more of a brunch basket. The pita and crackers were stale and the guacamole was brown. It was left over from the burger dinner. The croissant was also burnt. We also felt like there should have been more. Maybe a snack or dessert. The food choices and quality did not reflect the price. Honestly for the price, everyone should have had private chefs and been able to order what they wanted. Another aspect was not having a lot to do during the day. We all ended up hanging out by the pool. There was a wine tour, but it was walking in the woods with wine, not an actual winery. It would be better if there was a tasting set up at each spot. Overall it was a beautiful place and we did have a lot of fun. We wouldn't come back unless the price was $300-600 per night. We don't see the value in how expensive it is.

The pictures do not at all do justice to the tents or the property. They were huge and so beautifully decorated. I honestly don't think you can go wrong no matter which tent you pick. We did enjoy the layout (being able to lay in bed and look straight out) and secludedness of Meadowlark slightly more than Canadiana, but again you really can't go wrong. After being on the property I would love to try Wildwood (the most secluded and with an outdoor shower), Huckleberry and Casablanca next. We arrived hungry, and they offered to deliver pizza to our tent, but we decided to sit on the patio by the Watering Hole instead. The wood fired pizza was delish. You can buy breakfast and dinner baskets, but they need to be ordered in advance. I had considered it, but decided not to, but will try it out next time. Otherwise we stocked up on food and snacks from the Foodland in town. I would recommend to pick it up all on your way- once we got there we didn't want to leave. We enjoyed the hot tub and played many of the lawn games - ladder ball, connect 4, corn bag toss, ping pong. There is just SO much to do and we didn't get around to it all - like the canoeing, paddle boarding/boating, massages will need to wait until next time. The property was lovely to walk around on. It would make an amazing wedding venue. We couldn't get over how stunning the entire property is. An absolute gem of a place. I also don't want to forget how fantastic all the staff were. They were all SO nice. You can tell they truly care about your experience and want to do a good job. I also really liked that this is an adults only destination. It was perfect!

Our room ended up in the annex section. Behind the hotel is open green space that I'm pretty sure belongs to the hotel, and backs onto the Otonabee River. It's very pretty and picturesque and I think a nice place for like an outdoor wedding. Our room itself was pretty standard. We had a queen bed, couch, coffee table, flat screen TV, microwave and small fridge. The bathroom is small and is just the toilet and bath tub. The sink is outside of the bathroom. There's a gym and a pool, neither of which were used by us. Lots of free parking. The breakfast area is nice. Since our stay was during the Covid-19 Pandemic (not our preferred time to travel, but our journey was ultimately for an interment), the hot food was served in "to-go" pre-packaged servings by an attendant (it was a breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg and cheese on an English muffin when we were there). The attendant also serves you coffee and tea. Everything else is single serving individually wrapped and you can serve yourself with those (e.g bottled juice, yogurt, packaged pastries, granola bars, etc.). The dining room was open, with tables spaced out, but we opted to eat in our own room. I was satisfied with the Covid precautions. We paid around $120 a night. I would stay here again. Hopefully next time under happier circumstances, both personally and from a global health perspective.

The Waddell is conveniently located a couple of minutes walk away from the Capitol Theatre, and overlook the Ganaraska River. The bedroom features a Queen sized bed, air conditioning, private bathrooms, complimentary high-speed internet, and in-room Keurig coffee. We checked into the hotel around 8:30 pm, and luckily we did it in the nick of time. Since it's a smaller hotel with no 24 hours reception desk, they do lock the doors at 9:45 pm. We took the elevator to the second floor, and was greeted with a cozy hotel room. The hotel was beautifully restored and each room features custom-built cherry or mahogany furnishings, and period features such as high ceilings and large windows. It's a boutique hotel, so the design has a very small-town charm to it. On the main floor is Trattoria Gusto, where they offer Italian cuisine in a beautiful historic setting. In the morning, they do offer breakfast for hotel guests (complimentary with some rooms). We actually dined at Trattoria Gusto back in 2012, but this was the first time we stayed overnight. They don't serve breakfasts to the public, but it's open for brunch, lunch and dinner. We both opted for the Gusto Breakfast ($11.50), which came with 2 eggs (any style), breakfast potatoes with roasted caponata, sausage or bacon, and toast. Overall, the breakfast was good except the bacon. It was incredibly hard and tastes crisper than chips. I loved how central The Waddell Hotel is to downtown Port Hope. We were able to walk to many of our destinations from the hotel, and got a great view of The Salmon Migration flowing in the Ganaraska River.
