They do processing of game in the back and they have tons of jerky types in the fridge cases lining the wall. We got some turkey jerky strips to bring back to the cabin. I know they will be good. There are tons of steak types and all types of dead animal portions in the fridge cases, as well as cheeses and sausages. The prices are pretty reasonable and we love to frequent local, small shops. The lady behind the counter was very nice and we handed her a ten dollar bill and got a couple of bucks back. Definitely try their seasoned chicken breasts, they are the best off the grill!

Small town bar feel with an updated clean and welcoming look inside with signs of local connections…read moreand street sign type of decor. It's really nice inside, but even better was the super friendly service all around! They had the smoker outside and the special was the smoked brisket sandwich. And it was two for one beers, they even split the 'two for one' between us so we could each have just one more of our own beer choice, that was awesome. We started with nachos and agreed that they were one of the best plates of nachos that we've had in awhile. A full place of meaty and cheesy chips and plenty of toppings. Hubby had the smoked brisket sandwich and said the brisket was done very good. Our son had the Lumberjack Burger that he loved, he loves anything that has maple syrup on it! It was a big burger so he took half of it home and ate it later. I had the jalapeño popper burger, I wasn't sure if the name meant that it would have deep fried jalapeños on it and I'm so glad it didn't. My burger came out with a slice of pepper Jack cheese on it that was still cold except for the edges, but they took it back and warmed it up with a torch, actually to the point of burning the cheese, weird, but even so I loved this burger! It had slices of jalapeños and plenty of cream cheese, it was very good, (it actually didn't even need the pepper Jack cheese slice and not sure where that flavor fit in) then I asked for a side of the spicy berry sauce that they serve with the wonton appetizer and it was complete!! Highly recommend that they add this to the burger, or that you request it. Enjoy!

I've heard great things about this restaurant so I finally decided to try it out after driving by…read moreand noticing it was less busy than usual. The decor is what you'd expect from a bar restaurant establishment and the menu had less options than I was expecting. There was a band playing out back and a very active pull tan crew frequenting the atm in the dining area. Despite this events, it was still early enough that the crowd wasn't very large inside the restaurant. I order a chicken wrap from the menu and my date ordered a burger. The wrap was good, despite it being nothing like the description stated on the menu. I ordered the Buffalo chicken wrap which should have allegedly had bleu cheese crumbles, guacamole, lettuce, etc. but instead I received a wrap which seemed to be a chef salad with Buffalo sauce tossed in. There was shredded cheese and bacon crumbles among the lettuce to my surprise. The fries were over cooked and tasted as if the oil was on its last fry. Our waitress was very nice when taking our order but unfortunately we did not see her again near our table, not even for refills on our beverages, until it was time to receive our bill so we were not able to address any of our concerns. It was hard to finish my spicy Buffalo wrap without a water refill! I would give this place another chance, but it'd have to be at the request of someone else to go here. With the limited menu selection and the other mishaps I don't see myself returning on my own choice.

Okay, as a Southern California native I love authentic Mexican cooking. So whenever I go to a…read moreplace, my my signature test is to order the carnitas. But let's get into that in a minute. This place is conveniently located next to about five or six motels and hotels, so it makes for a perfect venue for a unique dinner spot. From an exterior standpoint. The place looks great, and has plenty of parking. There are a couple major potholes in the parking lot that could have been fixed but that's a small thing. On the inside, lots of wooden booths and a very festive Hispanic atmosphere. I really enjoy the sombreros hanging from the sides of the booth, as well as the paintings on the wall. From a visual standpoint. This looked like it was going to be a great meal. The waitress came and took my order. She seemed very frightened and standoffish. Now I'm a big guy. I get that, but I'm not that intimidating. But she made zero eye contact and couldn't really answer my questions that I had as her English was not that good. Regardless, I went ahead and ordered the carnitas plate and a water. The food came back pretty quick, and the plate looked appetizing, the refried beans were sort of orange which I wasn't super crazy about, but you know hey, sometimes these things happen. Happen. They were tasty. On a side note, they brought chips and salsa, the chips were fairly bland and the salsa was sort of pedestrian. Didn't really have much spice to it at all. The carnitas itself was well cooked, but had almost zero flavor to it. They smother it in onions, and that helped. But you know as well as I do that. When carnitas is cooked right, it is a mouthful of flavor. On the plate it also came with rice. The refried beans, a little spoonful of guacamole and some Pico de gallo. I ordered the flour tortillas as I wanted to make three larger tacos, which I did. To be honest, the only thing that saved the day was the hot sauce on the table. Adding that to the carnitas actually gave it some flavor and worked out pretty well. Bottom line? If I'm ever back this way again, I don't think I will be stopping here. I did not try any of the other things on the menu but the one I had was just pretty average. Your mileage may vary.

We rode our bicycles the 10 miles on the Rails-to-Trails bike path from Alexandria to Osakis and stumbled on AJ's Restaurant for breakfast before riding another 10 miles back to Alex. After sharing a warm caramel roll right out of the oven, we ordered three different 3-egg omelettes. They were all perfectly cooked and filled with delicious veggies and meats. AJ's surpassed our expectations with great food, great service and a down-home small-town hospitality. Gotta throw AJ's the fin.
