I began receiving services from Dr. Annunziata in Feb 2025. He was referred to me by a physical therapist after I needed a second opinion. He completed my rotator cuff repair surgery in March. All my visits with him so far have been excellent. He always throughly explains everything regarding my injury, the surgery and post surgery recovery expectations. He has a great sense of humor and bedside manner. The office staff has always been helpful and accommodating when I needed to adjust appointments and also with helping me process the necessary paperwork for my insurance and medical leave. I never had a long wait when arriving and am often taken back early for my appointment. I am 3 months post surgery and continue to have great experiences with this office. read more

Really disappointing experience today with the front office staff at the Arlington and Centreville locations. In Arlington when we got there at 5:15 pm with my 13 year old son (who has a foot injury) we were told by the front desk agent that they stop taking walk-ins at 5. She encouraged us instead to go to their Centreville office, where they take walk-ins until 9 pm. So we did the long drive to Centreville, where at 7:13 pm we were told by the front desk agent at that location that (a) they are not open until 9, and (b) they were no longer taking walk-ins before they close at 7:30. So we had to turn around and go home without being seen. What a waste of a night. I'll stay away from this operation. Lesson learned. read more

Having a significant knee flare up which sent me to the ER, who then referred me to OrthoVirginia because my long time orthopedist has retired. This was the second time I've been to OrthoVirginia and both times their immediate course of action was a cortisone injection. I wasn't impressed this visit either. read more

I lost 3 solid days of work and also verified that they have a dictionary full of patients that they do this to. Great doctors. Doctor was prompt, quick to the point, very efficient. Wonderful experience. Why the missing star? Told to show up 20 minutes early to my 7:30 am appointment (7:10 am) Well 7:10 am came and the office was locked, lights off. See a person rushing in at 7:15 saying I will be with you in a few minutes. We are all checked in by 7:30. A walk in came in, asked to be seen. They were told that their doctor was out but ironically they were going to be seen by the doctor I was there to see. Well wouldn't you know they get walked back FIRST and see the doctor. Once they are finished, I am finally seen. WTF? What did I do wrong? I showed up early, and still get booted behind a walk in? Obviously my time means nothing to them. The nurse gave me a brace for $100 and he said that my insurance will cover the cost. Later on, my insurance refused to pay for it, so I have to pay it. However, after searching on the internet I realized that this brace does not worth $100 (it is $30), Orthovirignia is making 3 times what is worth. I called the billing deparment and the lady told me that I have to pay it since I signed the document. She just could not understand that I was complaining about the unethical practices, their dishonesty and the fact that they take advantage of their patients. I even offered her to buy a new one for them, and she refused. After this, I don't trust the doctors there. They only want your money. read more

It's clear this shop has a streamlined system for dealing with a variety of orthopedic issues. Please read the specialties of each doctor on the Web site (http://www.orthovirginia.com/) so you can make an assessment about who works best for you. I really recommend you research the doctor because I do think choosing the right doctor is very important in your treatment. And if your insurance pays for it, always get a second opinion. It can make all the difference. They have an in house X-ray tech, an efficient intake system with pleasant staff at the front desk and check out. Dr. McConnell was my doctor (he was the only one with an opening, not my choice at all), he assessed me very fast, ordered X rays, then diagnosed the situation based on X-rays very fast. As with many medical appointments, when you go in prepared with questions and with queries about contraindications you are in a better position to get a better explanation from the doctors. One caution, although the doctor identified some irregularities in the bone structure, the remedy for pain is usually muscular stretch/strengthening after reducing inflammation. So sometimes the X-rays are just another piece of evidence in the puzzle of how the pain is triggered...not "the answer". Please use a variety of sources of information and question the doctor as much as you can. Ask the doctor to give you a prescription for physical therapy so you can use it if you need it. I was recommended this place for lower back issue and very glad with the way the online/phone appointment system works (http://www.orthovirginia.com/). read more

My review is also for Dr. Kevin Sumida. I saw him on very short notice in Sept 2018 because I had an injury that misdiagnosed 2 weeks earlier as muscle injury and I was getting worse. I was actually a bit surprised when he moved my leg and knee just a few times and said I had a fracture, it was not muscle. I needed an MRI and needed crutches to leave. And he left rather quickly. Honestly my reaction was "Huh?" I did not have a fall or anything I thought would justify a fracture, and I had just had an Xray that was clear. So I had my MRI, and he was 100% correct, I actually had 2 fractures and he was kind enough to call me and explain the results, that I would not need surgery. he was very kind and very thoughtful. That was the fastest diagnosis in my life EVER--but it was right on the money. And saved me from continuing to walk on damaged bone. Thank you Dr. Sumida. read more

Their billing system is a scam. The person whom entered my registration information purposely put in the wrong info...why? So my insurance couldn't verify the individual and it went to collections. After disputing this in court recently, I found out there were dozens of individuals listed under Ortho vs Whomever. Ortho gets their money, lawyers and courts get their fees, and the patients are the ones paying for it. And I paid my dues immediately once I found out what had happened. Scam scam scam. I've been a patients of Dr Pettrone's for over 3 years and after repeated terrible service I've decided to discontinue giving them by business. Overall my issue is two-fold; One, the wait time is absurd. I've waited over an hour every single time. This most recent time I had my 6 month old with me, and still had to wait 50 minutes. I've mentioned this issue to the Dr and his staff, and they've seemed indifferent. Even post-surgery, I showed up in major pain on the verge of tears, and yet, still had an hour wait to see the Dr. Two, I had major knee surgery for a loose knee cap and runners knee, and I was shocked at what important information was NOT mentioned to me prior to surgery. I was not told I would be in a leg brace from my groin to my ankle until after surgery, which is a big deal because it was difficult to dress with. I was not told I would barely be able to walk for WEEKS. The day of surgery I was asked if I wanted to purchase an ice machine to ice my leg for $250, with the alternate option being to use a bag of frozen peas. I opted for purchasing the machine and had I not, the bag of frozen peas wouldn't have cut it, but it would have been nice to know about the machine prior to day of surgery since it was yet another expense that I needed to budget for. The lack of post-op info provided was ridiculous. Dr Pettrone is a nice man and seemingly a good Dr, but the staff and service overall is so terrible that I wouldn't recommend OrthoVirginia to anyone. read more

Save yourself the trouble. Go to another practice. I had ACL Replacement Surgery with Dr McConnell in May 2014. I REGRET CHOOSING HIM AS MY SURGEON. I'm still not able to exercise nor is my knee fixed. He is the most ill-mannered doctor I have ever met and my knee not being fixed proves he is not as competent as his egotistical mouth claims. He does not listen to you, he only rattles off how many surgeries he has done over the span of his whatever decade long career. He does not give you information to help you understand what will be happening. Not only did he leave out crucial parts of what he was planning to do during surgery, he acts as if you should be able to read his mind. Don't ever ask him a question because you're curious or because you want to understand something, he will bite your head off. Prior to the surgery, the practice mailed me an envelope addressed to me with someone else's pre-op papers in the mail with the wrong patient name, date, and type of surgery. They also don't inform you that the insurance company ONLY pays for 90 days worth of follow-up. So when they had me go on Day 93 for a follow-up, and had me continue to go for a total of 6 months - none of those extra visits were covered by the surgery/insurance. At $40/pop they were getting expensive! Post surgery, I specifically asked him if he could give me a list of things I should be doing or working towards (so that he would stop mistreating me at the followup appointments). He lost his temper, yelled at me, then left the room! He returned 10 minutes later and tossed out a quick sentence stating "dutch uncle" - meaning he prefers to be harsh with his patients I guess? I had to google it. ha. I even decided to bring someone with me to a couple of the appointments so that I didn't have to deal with him alone! This guy is the MOST conceited, rude, and unfriendly doctor I have ever met. 5 months post surgery my knee started getting worse instead of better. McConnell said he didn't know what it could be and prescribed me a steroid pack to take and said come back next month. ?? I was like " uhmm.. but, but wait what could- " trying to get out a question while he was turning - but instead he rushed out of the room. I called to request an appointment 7 months post surgery with a different doctor at Commonwealth and the office would not let me see one (Dr. Sumida), stating it was a conflict. I said but this is a new condition, they still said no. I thought this was obnoxious. I called 4 times to try to get an appointment and they wouldn't let me. I even left a message for Dr. Sumida himself, but he did not ever return my call. Wouldn't the group collectively prefer to have a commonality; such as, fix the patient? Also beware they will order unnecessary X-rays. I knew I did not break any bones, yet he had 6 X-rays taken! I suppose they order so much because they make money off of it (it's in the same office). And guess what? You're insurance might not even cover it. The one he ordered 2 days after surgery wasn't covered. The only good thing that I experienced was the awesome staff at Virginia Hospital Center when I had my surgery (not from anyone at commonwealth) The hospital staff were ALL truly amazing. Everyone is nice and competent. However, to tell someone they do not accept Worker's Comp on the last day of treatment is dirty business to the extreme. Update: They sent me a $30 bill for a "no-show" After doing considerable research to find a good orthopedic surgeon's office in Arlington that takes CareFirst PPO, I called the Arlington office of Commonwealth. I spent ten minutes giving my information to a secretary, who scheduled me with Dr. Avery. She said she'd send me all information about the appointment along with forms to fill out ahead of time. I gave her my email address and phone number and she repeated them back to confirm. After a busy week plus weekend of work, I realized I had not received anything by email. I just called. The appointment was for this morning. Apparently they were not only supposed to email me forms, but should have called me yesterday to confirm the appointment. Because it's so difficult to reach doctors directly, I bet this happens a lot and they just blame the patients. Medical receptionists---99% of them are just awful. Stupid and rude. read more

None of the staff here; whether at the front desk or the surgeons themselves, have any reality of professionalism. I've been here twice and both times, to their credit, they've taken me to the exam room immediately. From there, however, it's obvious that none of the staff have any professionalism. They're giddy, loud, rude, and they act like uncontrolled teenagers. The exams on both occasions were not thorough and they couldn't answer specific questions concerning my injuries. It's almost a bit unfair to rate a practice as large as Commonwealth together, but I think the variety of quality in the practice is a reflection on it as a whole. For the practice: 2.5 Dr. Pettrone: Had an issue which he was able to resolve fast which I greatly appreciated. I'm a fan of this doc. 4 stars. Dr. Lefkin: I saw him after fracturing my fifth metatarsal (pinkie toe). He took the conservative approach and didn't perform surgery. The pain stayed around for months and was heightened when my foot was bent inward. About four months later, I reinjured in the same spot/same fracture. His conservative approach failed me and now I'm getting surgery next week and will have to go through the 6-8 week healing process again. Through research online I learned that sometimes the fracture can heal on its own unless the bone is displaced (mine was displaced). I'm annoyed. 1 star. Administrative Staff at the Tyson's Office: Not impressive. I called for a DMV disability form (you need it signed by the doc). I went picked it up and they gave it to me in an envelope. Now bad on me for not checking it before leaving, but bad on them for giving me the wrong state! The doctor had signed and filled out a Virginia form when I'm a D.C. resident. Really annoying to go back again when not so mobile and easily corrected if they checked my address before giving the doc the form. read more

I very much like Dr. Parker, but either he or the managing partners are overbooking patients. Wait times are VERY long (we arrived on time and saw three other patients for the same doctor at the SAME TIME). This isn't the first occurrence. Additionally, like most specialists in this wacky health care system, this practice will look to ring the register on you, so beware if you have high deductibles on your insurance policy. I hope Dr. Parker goes out on his own and follows a more reasonable business model. read more

Dr. Anthony Avery did my total hip replacement surgery last November 2018, and I had a very easy and quick recovery. He has the best bedside manners of many doctors that I've had. My daughter and I both liked him from the very start. I had no complications after the surgery except immediately after surgery, because I had lost a lot of blood and needed a blood transfusion. Good thing Dr. Avery was on-call that weekend and took great care of me. When I left the hospital and went home, I had great care; out-patient physical therapy, and soon I was walking without my cane. I am thrilled with my outcome. Thank you Dr. Avery. read more

I saw Dr. McConnell after experiencing excruciating knee pain. He did an x-ray, told me it was arthritis even though it was sudden onset, and refused to do an MRI, telling me that the pain was just the arthritis because I'm overweight and my only solution was bariatric surgery. I went to another doctor and got an MRI. Turns out that I have a full thickness radial tear of the medial meniscus and damage to the medial collateral ligament and require surgery. I wouldn't take a houseplant to this practice after the way I was treated. read more

Do not choose OrthaVA as your bone, soft tissue, muscular or nervous system concerns. I went in with a broken wrist that was set in the ER. Dr Mcconnell was comforting in that he made my situation out to be nothing, simple straight forward break, cast it and come back in 3 weeks. I had to wait 3 days for the swelling to go down before being casted - the person assigned to cast me was rude and inexperienced, i actually had to request someone else to step in. They wouldnt book my followup because "it was too far out, and we only book 2 weeks in advance"... so i called a week later to schedule the followup. That was a nightmare, mostly because they are clearly national have too much going on and are only worried about money and the business. I chose a new office, Summit Ortho -- I highly recommend! So, after 3 weeks of healing in a basic cast, my bones displaced and had been healing in the wrong place. I am currently healing after surgery; they had to rebreak the bones to put them back in place. I have reached out to OrthoVA; I received 2 emails, each 1 sentence. The first was a reference to a musculoskeletal center; the second was to disregard the first email, an apology for the experience and they would be in touch. That was about 2 weeks ago. Officially two months since my daughter's surgery! after the HORRIBLE experience at the ER at Alexandria Hospital I called a couple of my friends (that thankfully are doctors in the Fairfax and Arlington area) they all told me commonwealth ! so I called them and made an appt and came in. My daughter saw Dr.Avery. He was totally amazing! he performed her surgery and was totally nice. the entire office was great! I love this practice! I have been going to Commonwealth for over three years. I started with their Springfield location and moved to Arlington this past June. Dr. Romness is my doctor. We scheduled a bilateral knee replacement for September 10,2012. The office was so well prepared. They gave me a large folder with step by step instructions, prescriptions, class times, etc... I just had to follow everything until surgery day. My knees are now two weeks old and the office has always accommodated me in any way they can, including working me in right away to get the staples removed from my knees when I didn't need a home care nurse because I was having such an amazing recovery! I have never ever had rude staff or felt the office was too busy for me. I have only had amazing care that resulted in a wildly successful bilateral knee surgery! read more

Recommended to come here by the hospital after having x-rays on an injury/ongoing pain. Parking is always a nightmare here, but checking in, speaking with the front desk, and checking was even worse. The person I booked my appointment with told me to fill out forms online prior to my visit and that would avoid having to do so for 20 minutes in the office. They apparently didn't have the technology that the other locations have so that wasn't the case. Despite wasting my time with that and their miscommunication, the receptionists were not happy and were very rude to me for asking. The physicians assistant was nice and the doctor was nice but he didn't give me much advice or tell me anything I didn't already know. Sent me to get an MRI which I should have done first. So again, another waste of all our times and my money. Checking out was ridiculous. My copay was written with my insurance information yet the girl didn't understand why that was my copay. She had to verify with two other girls in the office who said that was incorrect and I didn't have a copay. I told them it was $100 but they said no so I went on my way and received a bill for $100 in the mail shortly after. Bottom line, the people here do not communicate and seemed slightly incompetent at their jobs. This was mostly a waste of a $100 appointment. It seems every office in this hospital are bad. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STAY AWAY...100% NOT RECOMMENDED First of all, there is a very minimal spots for free parking and the parking garage is very low if you have a cargo type of van. Secondly, the staff is on the harsh side not very welcoming and friendly at all. Thirdly, the specialist John McConnell is the worst specialist I have ever run across. He was rushing through the whole thing. He was not very attentive at all with what I had to tell him. He did not examine my knees thoroughly before giving his diagnose of my symptom as chondromalacia patella which is minor worn/inflamed in the back of the knee cap. I know chondromalacia patella is similar if not the same symptom of many runners and thus often called runner's knee. But when I asked him he said no which shows that he is not that good of a specialist. He only recommended one exercise for it, biking/cycling but there are many other exercises for chondromalacia patella if one does not have access to a stationary bike. Fourthly, I was never told that I could leave when he walked out of the room. I waited for more 45 minutes in the closed door room before I stepped out and asked if they were all done with me and I was told yes I could leave. When I am done with this review I will call my insurance as well to see if they can do something because I don't think they should pay them fully for the terrible mediocre service. read more

Please note - this business is now part of OrthoVirginia, a giant chain of Ortho facilities in Virginia. After visiting the Fairfax location of OrthoVirginia last week for a hand injury, I still have no diagnosis, am still in pain, and have to go see an actual orthopedist somewhere else - thanks to the utterly deplorable experience I had at this facility. In short, the office culture is very disrespectful of patients and unprofessional; the rooms were dirty (iodine freshly spilled on the exam bed);the nursing (?) staff are disrespectful of each other; patients are herded from room to room with no explanation, even when taking an x-ray that was done with no physical exam of my injured hand preceding that test; the physician's assistant did no physical exam and rather than diagnose my injury proceeded to tell me my pain was from arthritis and then he proceeded to tell me that my hands would probably be disfigured when I "become an old lady" and that he could order an MRI if I wanted to, but that the problem was arthritis. And by the way,in case you think I am an "old lady" I assure you that I am completely fit and in perfect health otherwise. Maybe because at my age I could have been Josh's (the PA) mother he belittled me as not requiring his attention? I did not need a 25 year old with a 2 yr technical degree and questionable medical training to take an x-ray to tell me I have arthritis, which is not even problematic for me and is typical for anyone my age. What I needed was an orthopedist to examine the hand I INJURED PLAYING SOFTBALL and make an appropriate diagnosis based on evidence and proper medical protocols. X-rays cannot see hairline or stress fractures, or any soft tissues, so to just wave me away as though I'm incompetent to know if I got hurt playing softball or have arthritis pain is beyond idiotic and incredibly unprofessional just as a service professional. DO NOT go to this place if you want to actually have your problem resolved and be treated as though you exist. read more

My experience is very similar to the previous posting about Dr. McConnell. I injured my foot while running and was barely able to walk. I've twisted my ankle many, many times while playing basketball and am no stranger to foot injuries and orthopedic doctors. This was my first experience at Commonwealth. and I was fortunate (or not) to be able to get in for an appointment the next day. Once I arrived, I felt like that the management staff was pretty good and I was pretty quickly ushered to the waiting room. However, I was seemingly also quickly ushered out. My meeting with Dr. McConnell was very brief and cursory. Like I mentioned, I was in a lot of pain and could barely walk. He talked for about 5 minutes, told me that they were going to take X-rays and left. I was barely able to get a word in and thought that x-rays were going to tell him everything he needed to know. After my x-rays, he came and told me that I had nothing. I proceeded to tell him that I was indeed in a lot of pain and could barely walk. He seemed to be somewhat irritated with me and said that he was going to prescribe a bone scan, which would tell him exactly what he needed to know. Again, before I had much of a chance to ask questions, he told me to call him after the bone scan and quickly left. I was left in the room without much reprieve for my hurt foot and only the promise of a bone scan. The bone scan didn't end up showing anything and after a week, I still can't step. When I spoke with him over the phone and told him that I was still in a lot of pain, he merely suggested that I buy some crutches. There are many other injuries to the foot, other than a break. All other doctors I have previously have at least taken the time to understand my injury and even to prescribe specific treatments (whether a brace or rehabilitation) or suggestions for the pain (i.e. ice and/or heat) . Dr. McConnell did none of these and I definitely won't be going back to see him. read more

This place runs like a mill. They are rushing patients in and out. Very low level of professionalism. Upon telling PA Laura M. That I felt uncomfortable with a cortisone shot and asking her what my other options were she got a huge attitude with me. I explained to her my concerns about getting a cortisone shot after already having done a week of prednisone without a clear diagnosis from their office (now two weeks since my injury and still in increasing pain). I asked what the diagnosis was and she kept giving me different answers of the possibilities and telling me we were going to just inject cortisone in my arm to see if it got better, not even knowing what the problem was. In the end she begrudgingly gave me a script for an MRI with little to no instruction on what I should do and walked out of the room so abruptly I didn't even know the appointment was over. She was so angry because i was uncomfrtoable and didnt understand the treatment plan. (even though I repeatedly asked her for clarification that she could not give me) She ended the appointment in a very hostile manner. Have never seen such unprofessionalism in a medical practice. Will not return to this place. The level of unprofessionalism is astounding. Please do not give this practice your business. They don't provide any level of quality of care or service. read more

Dr. Sumida was very competent, diagnosed my knee problem and gave me the right instructions for getting better. I recommend him for any knee injury. However, BEWARE! Rip Off Alert: This office charged me and arm and a leg for a knee brace I could have gotten on-line for 1/3rd the price! (After the doctor leaves, a tech comes to put on the brace, not before getting you to sign an a paper agreeing to the cost while you are in pain and will take anything. Insurance doesn't cover most of it and I found I could have saved alot if I had just known. .The staff of CO and the bill makes it sound like there is some special tool and adjustment required, but all the tools come with it. I had a long talk with the manufacturer about this brace, who confirmed I had been overcharged and misled. Had I known, I would have ordered it and come back to have the doctor confirm it was okay (that appointment was scheduled anyway.) Other doctors I have been to readily recommend less expensive options if available. When I complained to the billing office about the exorbitant price, I was told this fee made up for the limited insurance reimbursement doctors get for their services. Say What?!!! read more

A typical patient mill. 2 1/2 hours and $50 copay for 5 minutes with the Dr. Scheduled appointment for 11:50 AM and didn't get to an exam room until 12:45 PM. Then, we waited ANOTHER 90 minutes in the exam room. I guess the 1 star we are forced to give can go towards the privilege of getting to sit in the private exam room for 90 minutes instead of iin the standing room only waiting room. People resorted to sitting on the floor. Unfortunately, there's been so much consolidation in the orthopaedist industry in our area that we don't have many alternatives.....atleast for pediatric that's close to us. The unfriendly front desk staff aren't doing much to help the situation. The Dr assistent are friendlier though. Would not recommend this practice. read more

I'm really surprised at all of the negative reviews! I had a great experience with Dr. Anthony Avery of OrthoVirginia. He is patient, will not rush your office visits and will fully answer all of your questions (and I am one of those patients that arrives with a written list of questions). I am a sedentary, non-athletic 59 year old and had surgery for a torn rotator cuff and dislocated biceps tendon on my (dominate) right shoulder. I put off having surgery for several years because I was afraid of having a bad outcome, especially at my age. He told me if I followed his instructions and the instructions of the physical therapist, it was reasonable to expect that I could come through the surgery/PT process with no residual pain. I am now a little over four months post-surgery and have no pain and have full rotation of my shoulder. I feel like I had the "A" Team with Dr. Anthony Avery and my physical therapist, Dr. Christine Loftus at Source Physical Therapy. I should also mention that two of my other doctors (one of whom is also a surgeon at Virginia Hospital Center) asked me who did my surgery and when I told them, they also said that Dr. Anthony Avery is an "excellent surgeon." It was nice to hear that he also has a great reputation among his peers. I also thought the office staff and nurses/PAs were friendly and I had no problems at all with billing. The couple of times I've used this group (different family members), the staff is indifferent, the doctors arrogant and the wait time is ridiculous. They are always running an hour behind. But, I need PT for an accident and so, because they are convenient, I thought I would try again. For PT--the wait for an appointment was 3 weeks! Usually if you need PT, you need it in a timely manner. I believe, if you ever get in there, the care is pretty good.....but the difficulties in scheduling and wait time just aren't worth it. read more

My review is for Dr. Kevin Sumida, who I went to see this morning for a running injury. I was really impressed with the office staff when I called yesterday--they were able to get me in within a day! Impressive. I got in about 15 minutes early for my early-morning appointments, and I think they called my name right at my appointment time. I feel like that never happens! Thankfully Dr. Sumida didn't find anything too serious, and he sent me on my way with an anti-inflammatory prescription, some rubber tubing, and a packet with detailed ankle exercises. I was very happy bedside manner and would definitely come back here again if (God-forbid) I had a serious injury. read more

I got to the office and as par for the course, Doctors have no respect for your time, but I diverse, anyway I decided to read the reviews, ah yes Ashley, rude, impatient, abrupt, I have purchased a hamburger from a kid in a fast food joint who had a better bed side manor! I can only imagine that she is related to one of the Doctor's that she able to continue her employment. read more

A few months ago, I went in to see Dr. McConnell for some persistent pain all around my knee. Here's the thing about doctor's offices - patients want non-MD staff to be efficient and methodical. But, personally, I want my Dr. to take the time to talk to me. I agree with the other folks who said this place was run like a mill. Everybody else at the place was fantastic, especially the PT who gave me my brace and took the time to answer my questions and treat me like a human being. But, honestly, I have never been so mistreated by a Dr. in my life. I literally, almost got up and walked out. McConnell was rude, brusque and refused to explain how all the stuff in my knee worked together. I have tight hamstrings, and I have always had tight hamstrings - I was always the only 6 year old kid who couldn't touch his toes. I've also been an athlete since then, over 20 years. I'm pretty well acquainted with my muscles, particularly my leg muscles. He basically tsk-tsked me for having tight hamstrings, told me to stretch them out every night, and never explained to me how or why, when I dove playing ultimate frisbee and landed on the front of my knee, the sides of my knees should hurt. He treated me like a child and refused to answer my questions. Even now, months later, I'm bristling at how angry I was at this cocky blankety-blank who gives doctors a bad name. That being said, I have a colleague who's told me that the other doc's at Commonwealth are fantastic and have done surgeries for both of her adult children. I'm supposed to schedule a follow-up in another month or two, and I'll request one of them. read more

This is for their Fairfax office, as there isn't one listed on yelp. but I figured I'd give more information on the practice as a whole. The ONLY reason it's getting 1 star is because the nurses at that practice are DAMN good people. I came in April 9th for a short appointment where Dr. Lane confirmed the fracture that the ER had diagnosed. I was put into a walking boot and sent out the door in short order. Nothing seemed wrong, nothing seemed out of sorts. The nurse who worked with me, and Dr. Lane were both very nice. Though the woman who checked me out was pretty terse. The entire thing took maybe 20 minutes. I then came in on May 7th. My appointment was at 8:40. I was up at 7:30, out the door by 8, and at the office by 8:30 to make sure I was on time in case I needed to fill anything out. Upon my arrival I was completely ignored by the woman at the desk when I signed in-not even a hello or a glance to see that there were two people standing in front of her at 8:30am, and wasn't brought up to the desk for anything. I waited around until almost 9 before I was taken in to the office. The nurse (super friendly) went over my chart with me, and looked at my notes then I realized the doctor had PUT IN WRONG INFORMATION. It's the doctors personal patient notes, but come on, if I had been having surgery I may have been treated for something that I don't have. 9:30 comes and goes, and then around 9:45 I finally just go to grab someone and ask what is going on. They tell me I am next, so I go back to wait when my doctor looks genuinely surprised that I haven't had X-rays yet. I wait around again until about 10am when I'm taken in for 3 x-rays. The radiologists were nice, though the one positioning my ankle was really heavy handed and it really hurt to have him move it. 10:05 I get back to my room, see the doctor and have a literal 5 minute appointment for it. I go to check out and there is only one check out window open (as per the norm apparently) and the same terse person checking people out. As I'm waiting I hear my doctor making his remarks on his recorder and despite my having told him what I'm taking a specific medication for so he could fix it in the chart he notes that I'm not taking this medication for what he previously thought and instead am taking it for PTSD. I didn't finish checking out until 10:30. A 30 minute appointment took almost TWO HOURS. Everything seems well and good and then I get my bill from you guys. Dr. Lane charged more for that first five minute appointment than the EMERGENCY ROOM charged for my ENTIRE visit. This is ridiculous. This is abhorrent behavior. Dr. Lane was not worth over $100 a minute to see him. He is a nice guy yes, but all he did was look over my X-rays and confirm what I was already told. I will be taking this information up with the office manager at fairfax office. and I am posting it here, and on facebook, and on any other social media I can. There is no reason at all that with my insurance I should be paying anything, especially not after the way this office handles their patients. As an aside... maybe you should pay the doctors less, and the nurses more. They seem to be the only ones with an idea on how to run things. read more
