When my mother in law came to visit us from out of town and she fell and broke her leg in 3 different places. We took her to OrthroNeuro. There is a gentleman named Kerby who put a cast of my MIL's leg. He was absolutely amazing. Super nice and knows what he is doing. He is the only reason I am putting a 2 star instead of 1. The doctors there were very condescending and seemed to be in a rush. The doctor said my MIL would need a surgery right away but when we asked them to check with insurance to see if insurance would cover the expense, since it was out of network, the doctor said he would look right into it and call us back the same day. We have never heard back from them. We tried calling several times to get an update on the cost of the surgery and if they contacted the insurance or not. Every time we called them, the response was we are looking into it and will call you back. Again they have never contacted us. We wasted several days waiting to hear back from them. Finally, We just went to another place to get the surgery for my MIL.

I am a previous patient with Larry Todd from 15 years ago. I'm experiencing a spinal/neck injury per MRI, do I have to have a referral to set an appointment with him ? Jerry Bernhardt

If you call them and they can find your records, they can look up or ask you for your primary care physician's name and use that to create a new appointment. I've been using them since 1999 and have had several doctor's retire.

This situation which now is affecting my mental health started a month ago. During a January snowstorm I drove myself to the Diley Ridge emergency with leg and knee pain. During the visit I was given an ultrasound to look for a blood clot. I was given a shot of Lovanox and schedule an appointment with Mt. Carmel East for another ultrasound the next day. I drove to the hospital the next day during a level three emergency to be told I do not have a blood clot. I was still in pain but no one bothered to ask or consider another option. I was dismissed and went home. A week later I am at the Diley Ridge emergency hospital again with more intense knee pain, they even recognize that I was just there. This time I get an x-ray which shows I have some arthritis, I'm sent home with a script for ibuprofen, a leg stabilizer, and told to follow up with my PCP. All the while I'm icing and trying to figure out how to manage the pain and continue to work on my feet all day. My PCP sent a script for Meloxicam to help with inflammation and pain. I tried the medicine for a few days but even with food it made me vomit. My PCP sent a referral to OrthoNeuro and I waited for a call, which I never received. I finally called them on a Monday and was able to get an appointment that same Wednesday. I am very familiar with OrthoNeuro as I had three carpal tunnel release surgeries the previous year. For my knee pain I was scheduled with Mark Gittins. In my roughly ten minute consultation he told me to get rid of the stabilizing brace (I should be letting my knee do what it's supposed to do, use over the counter Voltaren for the arthritis and sent a referral for an MRI. Nothing was addressed about my actual knee pain. After about another week I am in so much pain I find myself at Mt. Carmel East emergency room, actually in hysterical tears because the pain continues with no relief. This time I'm given a shot in the rear for inflammation and sent a script for OxyCodone and ibuprofen. While in the ER I requested an MRI since one has not been scheduled for me yet. I was told no. I had to take off work the next day due to continued pain. I did receive a call finally to schedule an MRI. I was told my insurance requires a ten day period to get an MRI approved. At that time I was scheduled for an MRI March 3rd, 2026, which was still three weeks away. I sent a note explaining my situation and miraculously the next day I was called with an approval and scheduled an MRI the next day. Finally I thought I would get some relief. I had my MRI the next day at 7:30am immediately after the MRI I called and left a message with Dr. Gittins voicemail around 8am. In the meantime the results of my MRI are posted to MyChart. I did not receive a call, I left a message the next day, I did not receive a call. Friday came and went, no call. Which brings me to today, my pain continues as my anxiety rises because I have to work and I know what the pain feels like at the end of my shift and it makes me sick to my stomach. As I sit here and try not to be sarcastic about any of this I wonder when someone will decide to call me and help. Unfortunately I have no other option except to be seen at OrthoNeuro due to my insurance. I already have little faith in this institution due to my carpal tunnel release surgeries (I will not get into that situation as this letter has already taken up so much of my time). At this point I have no other option but to write this review because I am in need of some help and relief.

I wish I'd actually been able to get in to see the doctor at my appointment, I've had a rough…read moresummer of trying to get my chronic pain treated by some means that's not just pain meds, but unfortunately the staff made that impossible for me. I showed up 15 minutes early, checked in, completed all the paperwork, and sat down to wait... and wait. After I'd been there nearly an hour the television in the waiting room (which had been tuned to some daytime TV court show that I had mostly managed to ignore but was really surprised they kept on since there was a child in the room and it was initially about meth debts and crack moms abandoning kids) started getting even more severely offensive--in a very homophobic and transphobic direction. I asked the person at the desk if the channel could be changed or the show muted, she attempted to comply, then when the remote didn't work someone else came out from the back and turned it off. Promising... but then another woman (I'm assuming either the office or practice manager, since the other employees seemed to defer to her) came out and turned it back onto the same program and started to walk away with the remote. When I called out to her and asked again if the channel could be changed, she replied, "no, it's channel 28, it's Fox, if you have a problem with what they're playing call channel 28". When I reiterated that the show was offensive, she again told me to call channel 28 if I had a problem, but she wasn't going to change the channel or turn it off because "other patients shouldn't be deprived of the TV". Uh. Ok. So I asked if I should take my business elsewhere, and she said yes. Alright then. I left. tl;dr, this office apparently more highly prioritises keeping their waiting room TV on channel 28 than they do the comfort and care of their patients and ensuring they're not promoting hatred and bigotry to children. Definitely *NOT* GLBTIA friendly either.

This man saved my life! Seriously…read more I had a herniated disc and was literally bent over 90 degrees because I could not stand up straight due to my discs. After further testing, my family doctor received the report that my excruciating back pain was not a simple muscle pain but a herniated disc!!!! My family doctor then referred me to Mary Rutan Orthopedics and thankfully for me, there was a cancellation due to the crazy snow storm we recently had so I was able to see Dr. Smith that same week. Dr. Smith came in, with a friendly smile, and really seemed like he cared. After examining me, he concluded that surgery would be the best method of treatment for me. Eek! Surgery! It was not the answer I wanted to hear but I fully trusted Dr. Smith and agreed to have surgery. After pre-op procedures, I was scheduled for surgery. The day of the surgery, Dr. Smith came into my room and reassured me that everything will be fine. Despite the fact that my surgery was scheduled so early in the morning at 7:30am, Dr. Smith still had a smile and made me feel at ease and calmed my nerves down. So fast forward to after surgery... immediately, I was able to stand up FULLY. Yes, there was obviously pain near the incision mark due to surgery but I was able to stand up for the first time in weeks! Keep in mind, I have been walking crouched down because of my back pain and literally within hours of the surgery, I was cured. Amazing! I am so thankful that I was able to make an appointment with Dr. Smith and had the surgery by him. After researching him, it looks like he had his orthopedic spine surgery fellowship done at New Albany Surgical Hospital and apparently hearing from my medical school friend, that's the place to learn from when it comes to spine surgery! I highly highly recommend Dr. Smith to anyone that has spine problems or even orthopedic surgery related issues. You won't regret it!
