The ORROROO Caravan park always seems to be booked out, there must be a good reason for that! The cabins are pretty comfortable and there are caravan sites also available. Very popular with anyone that stays read more

When we arrived we realized that we were the only people here! It's called bush camping, there is drink water, toilets and showers but nobody like a caretaker. Out site # 19 was easy to find and great because it is shady all day! The facilities were spotless and we parked our camper and did a little hike along the dry creek. We immediately spotted kangaroos and rock wallabies also tons of birds like galahs, magpies and wrens. On our walk we also saw a large snake. The park has lot of information plaques about the area, the trees and the wildlife and is generally well maintained. We payed $18 for our campsite and $10 park entrance fee. There are several BBQ s around but fires were illegal because of high fire danger. In the evening as we sat outside our van a big goanna visited us ( a huge lizard that only exists in Ozzie) before he climbed a tree like nothing! Big as a freaking dragon, I swear! The camping and park has to be booked in advance there is noway to do it right here. It's really beautiful and quiet.

The camp ground was totally empty as temp where in 40ies but she made a scene about us parking our car in the shade outside our designated spot. Totally put a dampner on our stay!

I was in Australia as part of a solar vehicle race (yeah I'm a huge nerd. try asking me about it, I dare you.) and both the owners came by to check out our car, wish us luck, and root for us as we passed by during the race route. They gave us advice about midgies (laf;alewa;sdfijlalsdjfk THOSE MONSTERS) and just welcomed us into the country with open arms. They even let us store some pretty hefty supplies (think: five metre ramps to get the car into our shipping container) while we were racing for a week. We dropped by on the way back down to pick them up and they were so excited to see us and hear how the race was. The actual campgrounds were pretty standard. The bathrooms and laundry rooms were very clean. As far as I know, there wasn't a kitchen, but maybe we were just too busy working on the car to ever need to eat. The campground is next to (what looks like) a pretty large grassy plain, which is gorgeous to wake up and watch the sun rise over.

The lady that served me seemed a bit out of sorts but said that they had a grassed site, and carefully showed were it was on a map, where the ablutions were and explained the operation of the boom gate. I asked about the camp kitchen. She explained that there was a BBQ area and that there should be a kettle and a toaster in the laundry! The site turned out to be away from the water with dead grass interspersed with green spots where the sprinklers and hoses that were lying all over possibly hadn't been moved for a while. The only other campers in this area appeared to be permanent vans - these looked pretty old and in a variety of states of repair. The ablution block was of the old style with a smashed window and the clothesline was bent in half. No one else was camping in tents. I wouldn't stay here with kids, it looked highly dodgy. I could see a nicer area towards the water with some RV's. I went to Port Germein instead.

It's probably most famous for the long (over a kilometer) wooden jetty that the locals fish from. The caravan park is community managed and is of the small but friendly type. The surface is that South Australian white gravel that a lot of parks have, but the managers were happy to let me pitch my tent on a small patch of grass near the laundry. The laundry and ablutions are old but in good nick - they were re-tiling one of the showers while I was there. Crabbing is a popular pastime and the park has a separate area for people to prepare their crabs and freeze any crabby smelling rubbish so the smell doesn't annoy others. The park has a variety of bays and some air-conditioned cabins. The camp kitchen is only enclosed on two sides but has a TV and a lounge as well as the usual kettle/toaster/microwave/fridge/bbq. The park had a real family friendly feel with kids riding around on bicycles, some RV people, grey nomads and several families in caravans or cabins. The only permanent van was a guy that works in the park. The town is charming, and we had a good meal at the local pub where the locals in the front bar seemed as welcoming and cheerful as the publican and the Caravan Park People. I would love to come back here someday.
