Situated in the beautiful and…read morepeaceful town of Gevrey Chambertin, Les Deux provides a very comfortable stay for anyone visiting the Burgundy region. We made 2 day trips to Beaune and Dijon from here. Our room was well appointed with an updated and spacious bathroom (with both a shower and bathtub). We stayed in July and appreciated the air conditioning unit, although it was a tad noisy. The owner, Peter, was always available and spoke English which was very helpful. We had access to the living room and kitchen, which provided everything we needed (e.g. coffee and tea, aluminum foil, plates, cups, silverware). One of my favorite memories while staying at the hotel was our evening walks. We could walk outside and admire the gorgeous vineyards (just a few steps away), walk to downtown to have dinner, or walk through the quiet neighborhood to photograph the surrounding vineyards. Les Deux also has a great patio where you can have breakfast, light snacks (salad, cheese, fresh pasta), and drinks. We arrived around 1pm and had a charcuterie plate and wine while enjoying the warm sunshine. It was picture perfect and we couldn't have asked for a more pleasant afternoon. The hotel is housed in an old winery, and they still have a working wine cellar. We did wine tasting in their cave and really enjoyed the informative presentation from Matt! It was a group of 4 with my husband, myself, and one other couple. Matt was very passionate and knowledgeable about wine but provided the information in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. If we ever have a chance to visit Burgundy again, we will be sure to stop by Les Deux Chevres!

The wine list is extensive with four DRC bottles in their cellar. The hotel has its own cellar where the wine tasting is individual only (no group tastings) and tailored towards all levels of tasting. The bartender is very nice and the hotel owner hangs out at night to welcome you and knows the details of your stay. They arrange to call domaines as well to help you with wine tastings.

We booked a suite that was quite large and had a beautiful bathtub. This hotel has such warmth and character and you really feel like your stepping back into time. The lobby area is very historic feeling and is the perfect place to cozy up to the fire and have a glass of burgundy. The staff went our of their way to be helpful, particularly Jean Claude. This hotel is a large part of the reason we fell head over heels for Beaune.

Once you got to the room itself, it was fine. Overall, clean with basic amenities: no conditioner,…read morejust a squeeze bottle of body wash/shampoo - all in one, hair dryer, hand soap, tissues (located on the wall under the sink so trust me, it's there), and coffee/tea. It's just getting in and getting out that is a problem. First, the key barely works on the door. You have to give it several swipes at different speeds to get the green light to work and let you in. Otherwise, you keep getting that red light and you can't get in your room until you get it at just the right speed. Second, at check out, I have never been made to feel as if calling for a taxi was the worst thing in the world. The front desk woman, Marcella, was frustrated that I asked to call for a taxi (she wanted me to take the tram). On top of that, she kept asking me if I wanted an address on my bill...what?! I asked her to clarify and instead, she kept saying "AN ADDRESS" in an increasingly loud tone as she repeated herself over and over. I told her that I've never been asked that before and what address was she specifically referring to. But, of course, to no avail. Since I wanted her to stop repeating "AN ADDRESS" I just said "no" and got out of there as fast as I could. Can't say I would ever stay here again seeing as there are other options in Dijon.

My wife fell in love with this place and vowed to come back. The hotel is an old abbey and it rambles on. There are parlors, a bar, sitting rooms tucked away everywhere. The rooms are spacious and quaint, but with modern bathrooms. We were transported into another time and place and found the whole experience quite relaxing. Our dinner was exemplary. Each course looked beautiful and tasted even better. Some of the flavor combinations showed real inventiveness, such as the fish crudo with squash broth and many other little tastes on the plate. The pork main course was beautiful and the flavors were divine. Our wine was wonderful also, the list is large and fairly priced (at least for an expensive restaurant). The chef came out afterwards and even came to the front desk to recommend lunch for us the following day in another part of France. (unfortunately it was closed) Absolutely wonderful!
