Oriental Garden is my go-to for all our Vietnamese and Chinese food. they have the best prices and a great range of menu items. everything is excellent! Now the service... THE best team of staff. They are funny, sweet and efficient. They are honest and transparent (eg when they've run out of something - which has only happened once, and it happens everywhere!). The restaurant is always clean. I love pho and have generally been sticking to the one other place that makes it here, but today my friend and I decided we should try the pho out here. The spring rolls were good, the fish sauce was really good. They were very satisfying. The pho however was ok. The broth being what's supposed to be the show stealer was a bit of a let down. Tasting watery and lacking a lot of the umami flavour you expect from a pho broth. Maybe it was an off day, which is something I'm inclined to believe since the place was packed with regulars. The beef in the pho was good however was not medium rare. The real saving grace is the sate which the server told us was made in house by her mother. I'm not entirely sure where all the hype about this place comes from, but I found the food to be very mediocre. The pho, the fried rice, the stir fry's, the noodles, the chicken balls, etc. -- they all taste like standard Americanized Asian food, not authentic at all. When I eat at a Chinese restaurant, I expect it to taste authentic and inviting. All that to say; the food doesn't taste bad by any means (I mean Americanized Asian food is still tasty in its own right). However, the prices are quite steep for the kind of takeout fare you're getting. I would just be aware of these things before going! read more

Great family owned restaurant with standard North American Chinese takeout menu. Instead of lunch specials, they have all day specials including Bon-Bon ribs, wontons, chicken balls, and egg rolls. Generous portions. But if you're like me, you go there cause they are the only restaurant that offers a decent amount of Vietnamese dishes in the city. Ordered take out tonight. Portions are huge! I wish portions were smaller and less expensive though. I rarely get out of there for less than $75 for three people. Food is good. Food is is very good and price is very good. However because my takeout order had burned noodles I won't go there any more. I live 20 minutes from the restaurant so when my order has a problem I dont need to make a 40 minute or more round trip to rectify it. When I brought it up with one of the sisters who run it she made out like they do no wrong and I shouldn't bring it up. my wife and I came here for the pho soup (Vietnamese) and it was quite good. the one anomaly is that they do not serve basil with the dish (i find this unusual). pho serving size was good for the price. we also had the salad wraps which were well made and large with a slightly spicer dip than other restaurants (but very delicious). for first time goers, i was confused by the street sign on Dawson road next to a pet shop. initially looked like the business might have moved. i however got the bright idea to call them and they explained they are next door on the side. read more

Very bad pho.... Lack of texture of beef balls, soup is acceptable. No basil or lime provided. Not coming back.

Pho is absolutely the worst I have ever had , broth has no flavor and the beef balls are like rubber . No basil available and you have to beg for an acceptable amount of bean sprouts. Server not particularly welcoming. I understand things are more expensive in northern Ontario but $12 for bad Pho is crazy expensive. read more

We go here all the time and have recommended it to many, many times. We jokingly refer to Oriental Garden as #94 as it is our favourite thing to order. But get there early or they might run out. Any of the sizzler dishes (beef, chicken or shrimp) are also delicious. Even have authentic Vietnamese food. Lots to choose from. Friendly and courteous staff. read more

I honestly feel like the girl at Oriental Garden practically stole my money. First, their takeout menu and Yellow Page ad say they're open until 10PM but when I called at 9:30PM to make a takeout order they didn't answer the phone. I was in the area so I went into the restaurant to place my order instead and was told they stop cooking at 9:30. So they apparently don't answer the phone to tell customers the kitchen is closed even before closing hours. I got 3 dishes: plain fried rice, mixed greens, sweet and sour deep fried shrimp. The rice and mixed greens were ok, but not very good. The rice was dry and the greens were flavourless. The worst part though was the shrimp. When I bit into one I had to spit it out. I thought it might just be a bad one so tried 2 more. They all tasted bad. I don't know if it was the shrimp, the batter, or the oil they fried it in but something was really bad - possibly very old oil. I tried to return all of the shrimp the following evening and the girl from the kitchen, possibly the manager, refused to refund my money. She just simply refused and then attempted to argue with me about how I should have called earlier and not waited so long to return the shrimp and that they had many customers that evening with no complaints. I wasn't there to hear an argument. I simply just wanted my money back for the bad $12 shrimp me and my husband couldn't even bring ourselves to eat (as badly as we wanted to). I was polite and walked away without a refund but am now regretting it. I'm shocked she would so blatantly keep my money even though I brought the food back (and was reasonable about it all). Definitely avoid this place. read more
