While I have no complaints with the products and the quality of the orthotics from Hangar Clinic itself it is this office that I have issues with. Since melanoma entered my life back in February I have gotten to see a variety of medical offices, probably more than anyone should have to. You get to see pretty quick who runs a good office, who has good staff and who doesn't have a clue. You have to learn this or our country's medical system will eat you alive. When I first entered this Hangar office I was happy to see that the staff was very friendly and eager to get back to walking again. I left feeling great about them and the direction my recovery was going. I was told about two weeks to get my new special shoes and the inserts that would allow me to walk again. As time went by and the two week period was approaching I was super excited and couldn't wait. The time came and passed with nary a word from this office. After a few days I called and asked what was up and basically no one knew. They said they would call me back that afternoon. The next day I called again, they said the shoe was back-ordered but the insert was there. A week later I called again and I was told, "Oh yes, the insert is finally here, the shoe has been there for a while." Huh? I went down and got fitted and decided to blow it off because I was walking! A week or so later it was apparent that I needed to modify the insert a little, it was hurting my foot. They got me in the next day, made some adjustments and it was better. I started to feel better. Fast forward another few weeks and my podiatrist was not happy with the insert and gave me a list of adjustments he wanted them to make, so I went in the next day to Hangar and they made the adjustments as best they could but they said it would be better if we started from scratch so we made a new mold of my foot and sent it off for a new insert that would in within two weeks. Two and a half weeks later I called to ask about the insert and no one knew anything, the gentleman who was handling my case was on vacation and I would have to wait. The day he was back I called, he was with a client and would call me back in a few hours. Three days later I called back again, no one knew anything. Finally, a week later, they were able to get my insert in. After that visit with no apology, no explanation about the snafu I decided that I will try a office on the other side of town near Legacy Hospital. Now I know why this office is in a basement. I hope that in the future they can get a better staff in there but I won't be back to see if that happened.

They listen to my issues and make the appropriate modifications for a comfortable fitting socket and working knee. With their help, I was able to improve my gait and participate in a running clinic. The front desk staff were very cooperative and worked with me with my insurance. This is not an easy process and I was glad to have such an experienced staff help me with the claims over the years.

Several weeks into the process it came time to take a mold to order the prosthetic leg. I was told that day that it would cost close to $6000 out of our pocket. We were then told that Blue Cross was out of network, which Artisan knew all along. Now in hindsight I should've confirmed with insurance, but I trusted what Artisan was saying. Looking back their verbiage was intentionally misleading to get us to stay with Artisan. I decided not to do the mold and went to look elsewhere for an in network provider. I specifically asked the receptionist that came in to tell me about the charges what I owed so far and she said nothing. She went on to explain that there is nothing they can bill for since I didn't go through with the process. You can imagine our surprise when we received a bill for $225 dollars for 2 shrinkers use during the mold process. These shrinkers can be bought for about $50 in retail stores. Also, this event held my wife back from getting her leg for months. Not only did she have to start over with a new provider, but the event also caused confusion with the insurance company. So it took longer to get things approved. It may not seem like much, but this time lost was devastating. It has made the entire process more challenging because of the changes her body went through during those months not being able to move around much. The phantom pains were excruciating. She kept being told that it would get better once she got the leg, but that timeline kept getting further and further out. I wanted to talk this through with Artisan on the phone, but was told I could not even with my wife's verbal permission over the phone. Artisan said they would send a permission paper to sign and send back, but we have not received it. I wrote them a letter about all this, but received no response. We just keep getting the bill in the mail.
