It's a small, unprogrammed meeting, but there's often a bit of vocal ministry from attendees. I find the silent style of listening and worship to be very centering and grounding. First Day School for kiddos is great, and we love that they join the silent meeting for the last 15 minutes. If you're into social and environmental consciousness and intentional living, this community is amazing. The meeting is open to non-Quakers, Christian Quakers, and Quakers of any spiritual background (so everyone ). If nothing else, come for the community time and simple food that we enjoy after worship!

The World According to Noelle Allergic Girl's Guide to Life…read more Mass Times: Saturday- 5 p.m. Sunday- 9 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. Weekday Mass: Tuesdays & Thursdays 8:45 a.m. Lent starts this week for the Catholic Community starting on Ash Wednesday. The hubby and I attended mass for the first time at Church of the Transfiguration. Its a smaller Catholic community mostly made up of senior citizens. At the particular mass we attended they had a small choir of singers that included a harpist which was a great addition and one lector who did all of the readings. The most notable part of mass was the communion wafer or lack there of- they serve whole wheat pita bread instead of the traditional communion wafer (I wasn't a fan of the pita bread). I've been to many different Catholic Churches and could honestly say this one wasn't the most welcoming to newcomers. Being that Lent is just around the corner it was a must we didn't miss mass.If I had to do it over again I would have definitely attended Saint Christopher or Holy Family (where we got married) as both communities are more welcoming in general.

When we walk in the doors, we are greeted by name and when we go up for communion, we are personally blessed by the priest by name. The homemade communion bread they use is a delicious substitution for stale wafers of years past. They have great community events, especially their Ladie's Tea, St. Patrick's dinner dance, and summer picnic. The environment is bright and inviting and always decorated for the seasons. Beautiful church that I had the opportunity to discover during the San Jose Greek festival last…read moremonth. The moon offered awesome shadows to the white facade, and you got that feeling of being stranded in some Mediterranean island. Tons of people on the street and even inside the church, doing some tour at night (the festival lasts some days). I like the aesthetics of the place with those colorful vitrals and the wood work, the peace and the smell. I could feel the sense of community of first and second generations of Greek-Sanjoseans enjoying their language, food and music together with other locals and foreigners. The priests seem to be very cool in here, all dancing outside and taking pictures with their ipads while enjoying some baklavas. Loved the atmosphere and feel like retaking my ancient Greek classes just because.

It was deeply heartbreaking and honestly disturbing to be told that the pastor would only provide services for members of their own church. In a time when families are grieving and looking for compassion, support, and the love of Christ, we were met with closed doors. Jesus never turned people away based on membership, status, or appearance. He welcomed all people with love, grace, and open arms. It is painful to see what some churches in America have become where it can feel more about membership or tithing than truly serving people in need. For any family seeking support during a difficult loss, please be aware of this experience. Churches are called to reflect Christ's heart, and unfortunately, this did not feel like that. I pray for the pastor and staff that their hearts may be softened and that they reflect on God's Word more deeply. My hope is that they choose compassion over exclusivity in the future. I would not personally recommend this church based on our experience.

This church is biblically based and the leaders value scripture. Seating is comfortable and there are few distractions. The worship is modern but it does not distract you from actually worshipping God. Parking can be limited on Sunday morning if you are late. The breaking of bread service starts at 830 and ends at 930. From 930-10 there is fellowship time or snack time and from 10-11 is the family bible hour. From 11-12 there is prayer time or classes. Finally, the people here are accepting, Christ centered, and comforting. Whether you're a college student, newly married, young or old, you'll find someone to connect with.
