Such a fun family experience!! We drove up from south of Birmingham to Orbix on a Saturday morning in early September after emailing the Orbix team asking to join a Saturday session earlier in the week. On the drive up we followed the written directions provided by Orbix rather than the GPS. Once we arrived we were greeted quickly, provided instructions on how to pick colors (and advice for those of us who couldn't decide on which color combo we wanted to use for our ornament), joined our private class (which was super cool) with lots of time to tell us about what we were going to be doing / patience, each made our own ornament and then we were able to have it shipped back to us within a week after it cooled down. Girls trip to Weiss Lake turned out too rainy to float in the lake. We googled things to do near us and this popped up. Such a fun experience. Reminded all of us of the movie Sweet Home Alabama. We are already discussing returning!! read more

Nestled near Little River Canyon, as you weave your way between Fort Payne and Weiss Lake, enjoy glass creations as you view the crafting process at this nationally recognized glass blowing mecca. Twenty minutes from many places you might be, and even closer to the various scenic canyon spots, it's a delightful change from that other beautiful scenery nearby. Surpassing the art, and the views, is the exceptionally wonderfully amazingly superbly happily nice owners and staff at Orbix. We wandered in from the cold on a December weekday and soon were ushered into the warm (890-degree) crafting space. The time spent was educational and fun. With events ranging from the extremely popular "blow your own ornament" (reservations fill like it's Talladega) to multiple 1-4 hour classes and group studio tours, you'll have more reasons than the fabulous artwork to visit. During your visit, make sure to look out for Odie, who really runs the place. You'll get extra points for giving some dog-belly scratches, so plan an extra half-hour for that. Those Alabama and Auburn fans and their loved loved ones will enjoy many team-themed items from which to choose. One team sells more; I'll never tell which. And just because you can't decide what all to take back with you during the visit, or you find you can't live without another piece once you get it back home, hit up their online store for all the choices. Well worth the scenic drive to get there! The surroundings are beautiful. We were there in April as the trees were budding and everything was blooming so the ride was great. A short trip from Fort Payne or Desoto State Park. The staff was friendly and comfortable with questions from inquisitive visitors. These people are real artisans! Be sure to see where they have been featured on Smarter Every Day YouTube Channel. Great gift spot with reasonably priced small item items and some beautiful large scale art pieces. Definitely some place I would visit again if in the area. read more

We visited Orbix Hot Glass this weekend while in neighboring Chattanooga, TN. Keep in mind that the location is in the middle of no where but that is a big part of the adventure. The entire family was able to to create an ornament like a real glass blower. A cool experience! Very nice staff, neat shop and beautiful surroundings. read more

Three years ago a friend mentioned the workshop for making an ornament and I was intrigued ~ it was a foggy morning , just before Christmas and I had a BLAST. One family had been coming for 8 years, their son creating a different orb each year. I was hooked! Last year I returned 4 times - making Christmas gifts (and one no two for myself.) It is so much fun watching others pick their color(s) and then following instructions ~ to blow softly into the tube. Everyone there is so helpful, including the four-legged greeters. I am about to run out of people to make gifts for, guess I will have to add one of the other items, just thinking ahead. Worth the drive, worth the cost and worth your time.
