The places were loud and the music was not cohesive to the ambiance. We luckily found the Harrison Speakeasy and we had such a wonderful time. It's open late and really gives the speakeasy vibes that so many "speakeasies" are lacking these days. The music was great. The DJ was very impressive and played a nice array of music. Seamlessly mixing old and new salsa and more. The drinks - we finally had some good drinks here! I was so happy after the previous bars we had been to. The only downside here was that we got there and were having such a good time, then it closed and we were left wanting more. It was such a nice time and I really appreciated the opportunity to visit during our trip!

The Harrison is a New York prohibition themed speakeasy tucked behind the Nicky NY sushi. It was a bit funny seeing another country's interpretation of "American culture" but I think Harrison nailed it - from the New York newspaper menus to the classy interior to the expertly made cocktails. I could not decide on the cocktail menu, so the bartender asked me what my preferences were. She whipped up a mint banana drink and it was SO AMAZINGLY GOOD. Like one of the best cocktails of my life. AND it was only $6!! (Granted, all the cocktails in Buenos Aires are $6 USD) During my visit to Buenos Aires I also tried two of the "world's top 50" bars: Tres Monos and Floreria Atlantico. Honestly, I think Harrison has them both beat in terms of ambiance and beverage. Wonderful experience and I will definitely come back the next time I'm in town.

But Verne Club was the single most authentic feeling speakeasy type of bar we visited while in BA. It's not hard to get into, and it's not hard to make a reservation. You can do it right from their website. But the bar itself is completely unassuming and if you're not careful you would walk right by it assuming it's a house on a quiet neighborhood street. Not so. Once we walked in we were seated immediately for our reservation. It was a Sunday night and relatively empty at 10pm, but by 11pm the place had filled up to a decent amount. While not every cocktail was perfect (the wine cocktails were a little weird) - they have two special cocktails that are complete slam dunks. The opium old fashioned was one of the best drinks I've ever had (and it was with Jim Beam of all things!) and the Jazmin Blanco was possibly one of the second best drinks I've ever had. Both are amazing. Try them both. The opium old fashioned comes smoking at your table and the inhale experience on your first sip is unforgettable. The food is also very good and the hot dogs were excellent. While my friend and I left around 1am, our husbands stayed on and ended up staying and chatting with Samurai, the owner, after the bar closed for the night. Verne Club was by far one of our most memorable experiences in Buenos Aires and one of our most enjoyable nights. If you're into craft cocktails, and a cool and chill vibe, this is the place for you.

Rating: 3.2/5 [dine in]…read more Saw great reviews for this spot, so we decided to swing by. Service was great, and they spoke English as well, which was helpful. Unfortunately, the drinks didn't quite live up to the hype compared to other cocktail bars we tried that day. White Jasmine ($11,500 ARS): Heraclito London Dry Gin, Cardamom, Lemon Honey, Jasmine Tea (ABV 18.8%). Better than the 1869. You can pick up the flavors, but the lemon honey aftertaste was a bit too strong. 1869 ($12,500 ARS): Havana 7 Rum, Zuelo Torrontés Vinegar, Dates, Pomegranate (ABV 19.6%). Sweet, but the alcohol flavor overpowered everything else. Also, the foam topping was too heavy.
