Yes Fnac is the Swiss equivalent of Best Buy in the US and boy, it sure does a good job. Any time I've had to make a big technical purchase (Tv, Laptop.... batteries) I've always gone to Fnac. They are helpful, friendly and will get you the right product and not try to screw you over either. If you are a non french speaker, most of the staff also speak english... but come on, the only way to learn is to try ;)

After an unsuccessful attempt to purchase a pre-paid phone and get some answers about mobile service from the Migros and then the Swisscomm in the Cornavin Les Cygnes, I made my way to the closest Orange Center. The Orange Center was much more organized than the previous two locations, with a ticket system and a display over the counter that even had the pictures and names of the next available agent. The lady helping me (thankfully) spoke English, and I had a Samsung cellphone with CHF10 in credit within minutes, and I was only poorer by CHF19. You don't pay to receive phone calls. SMS is only 10 cents, both inside and outside of Switzerland (I checked with her several times to confirm that this was the case). With a CHF10 charge (which comes with your initial purchase), you get either 20 free texts/day, free internet, or free calls to other Orange subscriber for 7 days. Unsurprisingly, the phone has a cheap display, but seems otherwise sturdy. If you're not planning to stay in Switzerland very long, this is definitely the way to go. Oh, don't forget your passport, you'll need it to open an account.

I started by going to the Apple Store in Geneva, but because I purchased my computer in the States, they couldn't help me. They sent me instead to ART Computer. I'm so glad they did. From the minute I walked in the door, an ART employee greeted me and asked if he could help. I stated my need, as well as my concern about installing the RAM myself, but your guy -- Edgar Rincon -- was so incredibly helpful and friendly. He showed me, on an iMac model in the store, how to install the extra RAM. He answered several other questions I had, then got me the item I was seeking, rang up my purchase, and had me on my way in no time! When I got home, I followed Edgar's instructions exactly and had the RAM installed in less than five minutes. I wish more businesses in the Geneva / Pays-de-Gex area provided customer service and a pleasant experience like the kind I had today in your store. Thank you!
