Our son is autistic (lower support needs) and suffers from ADHD, OCD, major depression and anxiety, RSD and PTSD from childhood trauma. He went to another program, and it was a disaster. We are so grateful we found OPI. He finally was surrounded by a team who understood how to support him while he successfully learned the skills to manage his mental health. He was on the wrong meds and undermedicated and this was addressed quickly, he found self-understanding, self-worth and self-confidence. He went from daily suicidal ideation to planning for the future. This came after a tremendous amount of really hard work by our son. As a family unit, we all put in the work to evolve and grow stronger as a family unit. Our communications evolved. We truly believe OPI, and our son's desire to improve his situation, saved his life. I highly recommend this program for young adults and we are eternally grateful. read more

Very disorganized and counter-productive program who spend more time reacting to issues and concerns; rather than being proactive

I came to OPI after four months in wilderness therapy and it genuinely saved me from myself and gave me my family back. My family dynamic and relationship hasn't been this good and open ever. I was able to work on my trauma, identity formation, interpersonal connections, family life, and self esteem during my time here. I made friends that will last me a lifetime who too are working towards similar goals of healthy relationships, sobriety, accountability and more. My therapist was Beradin and never have I had a therapist so amazing. She helped me more than I ever thought any one person could. Beradin helped me help myself, taught me how to hold myself accountable, lessen my ptsd flashbacks, kept it real with me, provided support in me focusing on specific goals that now I have achieved, all while giving me a healthy and profound relationship that's proved to me I can trust people again ( never thought i could have ever achieved this and I never would have without her). I am continuing to work with her as my therapist now that I have graduated from OPI and I couldn't have made a better decision. Jenny was my main supporter in the education department and made me realize I am beyond capable of doing anything I set my mind to, Im now set to go to college, was one of the first people in my year to apply for my school schedule and housing, and more than anything created a truly profound connection with me. I've worked with a multitude of education specialists, tutors, and other forms of support but never have they helped me as much as Jenny did. The biggest reason being she did not only help me get further in my education but develop my self efficacy to do it on my own and gave me the tools to do things myself. I called Jenny my sister because she not only believed in me with everything she had but furthered my self esteem and belief in my own ability. She showed me where to volunteer and held me accountable to go every week. I volunteered with an animal rescue where I was welcomed into an absolutely amazing community. I've always had severe anxiety and Jenny helped me put myself out there and become truly comfortable in doing so. Lindsay ,the activities director, gave me a safe space to be anxious, be supported in it, and push past it because she knew I could. My feelings were validated while still being pushed to do what she knew I could, live life just like everyone else regardless of my anxiety, depression, and ptsd. I joined an art class that I attended weekly. Lindsay is a pure, loving, soul who goes above and beyond to push you into the community and support you every step of the way! Her smile and jenny's giggles made my day everyday. The ILS ( independent living specialist) are truly a blessing. ILS staff are there to support all participants 24/7 even at night. These staff showed me how I deserve to be treated and how to reach out when I need it without feeling like a burden. Never have I met people who care about me as much as they did and do. They believe in you and truly become your family. Especially two staff that currently work there, Jasmine and Nino. These staff are beyond spectacular and do more than asked solely because they care. They go beyond what's obligated to them and I believe that they love each participant with their whole hearts in a professional but not detached / sterile way. With them I wasn't a mentally ill teenager in treatment that they are forced to support but a young adult who is bound for big things and deserves love, care ,and support without having to cry out for it. Most groups were less than helpful but the few that helped HELPED. These include healthy relationships group, attachment group, process group, and dbt. Process groups could have been even more beneficial if people were put into smaller groups and all encouraged to share or support. Some site supervisors lacked empathy for participants/ clear communication/ recognition of when joking is inappropriate and require much more training working with mentally ill youth. This made my life at the apartments much more difficult than necessary. Also the apartments are so so nice although at times there were problems with nats and cockroaches. Day to day life is filled with activities such as groups, clubs, and outings. You have a very special amount of freedom and independence you won't find at any other treatment center. But in the end, I can't begin to express how thankful I am for every single staff member in this program and what I experienced in my time there. read more

Please be careful when choosing a place for your loved one. OPI is a failure to launch program. After our child attended for 4 months and $120,000 later, we learned this the hard way! I have been researching the program again to see how I missed so many details. When I call admissions now as a prospective customer, I am told something different than James H., Director of Admissions told me 6 months ago. Our child has mental health issues and it's unethical for OPI to market themselves as anything other than a Failure to Launch program. They do not take the time to receive your child's previous medical records to learn about their mental health and what treatment is needed. Also, please know that OPI does not bill your insurance company correctly and they are NOT licensed to bill as a Residential Inpatient Treatment facility. Sadly, James H. will tell you what you want to hear to get you on board and to sign a contract. Don't let your emotions win! We love our children and would do anything to help them. OPI & James H. takes advantage of desperate parents. For anyone reading this who has been a patient or customer of OPI, if you would like to contact me, I have created a private gmail account: br6385064@gmail.com. BEWARE--years ago these people tried to help my abuser put me into a conservatorship. I did not realize at the time that was what was happening but I have recently found more emails and texts between staff members in this institute with my abuser and it was extremely clear I was being abused and that they were motivated by financial interests to keep me under the control of my abuser. They are in it for money and not helping people. I also spoke to a resident there at the time that said all of the patients hated it there and were being mistreated by staff read more

My daughter was enrolled at OPI for 13 months. I must say that it is the best decision we as a family could have ever made. She went to a wilderness program prior to OPI and another dual diagnosis treatment facility that didn't work. Wilderness was a great stepping stone but she needed more. More therapy, more structure, more DBT, addiction counseling, psychiatric treatment and educational counseling. OPI provided all of these things along with a life coach, volunteer work, music therapy and a soft place to land. A safe environment. I must say that regardless of age, treatment cannot be forced. It is up to the person receiving the treatment to WANT the help, WANT to get better. It takes time and for a spiritual awakening. An a-ha moment from them. My daughter did NOT want to go. She hated her first experience. After time, she began to see the light. She graduated recently and misses everyone at OPI. It became home to her and her second family. She now lives in a sober living house. Her decision. We are so proud of her. Everyone at OPI treated her with respect and kindness. We had family therapy each week as well. This program helps not only the participant but their entire family. To learn how to navigate life going forward and from past mistakes. My daughter struggles with bipolar disorder, alcohol and marijuana addiction, past benzo addiction, psychosis, mania, self harm and trauma. She is now 19 but has struggled since 13. She went to the psych hospital a few times and came close to death. She had an episode while at OPI and was sent to the local psychiatric hospital. OPI handled it flawlessly. I felt she was in good hands and never felt that she was unsafe. My daughter went in at 18. OPI taught her to be independent. With a phase type program, she went from phase 1 intensive to phase 3 standard. They teach these kids that they CAN succeed, they CAN be sober, they CAN get a job and be productive and they CAN finish school and make something of themselves. I do not exaggerate when I say the people at OPI saved my daughter's life. I give credit to OPI, Alcoholics Anonymous and the right medication. Thank you OPI! Yes these programs are expensive but it is worth Every. Single. Penny! Until the stigmas of mental illness and addiction disappear, we will unfortunately have to pay these high prices for treatment. This is NOT OPI's fault or any of the other facilities. This is an issue with our insurance companies. We must stand up and speak out about this. Fight for these stigmas to disappear! We have appealed and plan to go to litigation with our insurance company. Again, this is NOT OPI's fault. Write to your congress and anyone who will listen! read more

been here a while, pretty good. been to a lot of places like visions, catalyst, but this definitely the best. Also best therapist.

OPI changed our lives. Our daughter suffered from depression and anxiety. We were so blessed to find OPI. She attended the program for 10 months and is a new person! The staff was wonderful! Especially Salter her therapist who helped us with family counselling that really improved our overall communication. I highly recommend this program for any young adult looking to find themselves. Our daughter is so happy and lives in her own apartment now and is working at a job she loves. read more

Last summer, Optimum Performance Institute (OPI) introduced my family and I to the first therapeutic paradigm that has been unequivocally successful in restoring my self-worth as a lifelong sufferer of severe Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). OPI first appeared at the top of my desperate Google Search results, cued by the keywords "Borderline, "Help," and "Open Bed," following my most hollowing hospitalization last May. I spent the next morning calling residential programs all over the country, in relentless pursuit of a human voice on the other end of the line. OPI was one of very few to call back. Six months after advancing from OPI's inpatient program, I could not be more thankful for the quality of care I voluntarily immersed myself in and learned from in residence. And, as it stands, my family and I couldn't be more disillusioned by the harsh reality of those politics which firmly govern a program so boldly self-proclaiming of its moral transparency. I view the ineffable healing power of DBT and these politics to be, most disappointingly, mutually exclusive. Recovery at OPI is not about treating the "whole person" - it is about treating what you can afford. For the young trustees and white-collared rebels comprising OPI's predominant client base and market targets, this insight surely holds little weight. However, for the few desperately proactive young individuals who look to programs like OPI for unconditional support throughout the inevitable ups and downs of a wholehearted journey towards recovery, this insight is beyond nauseating. Thank you, OPI, for introducing me to the very therapeutic lens that both exposes this most fundamental weakness in your program's integrity and gives me the confidence to share it with my community of misunderstood artists, intellectuals, and warm hearts - just as deserving of recovery as your trust-fund babies. read more

Really amazing program. Great People. Yes it's on the pricey side and they don't take insurance so my parents ended up paying for it. This is a well run world-class program though. The staff is well trained and it's in the Los Angeles valley so it's around a lot of great stuff. Most helpful was learning how to get ready for life. I would totally recommend OPI. read more

A waste of A LOT of money. The intake employee was attentive prior to my son attending but once he started, that went away quickly. I couldn't even get a return phone call from the staff. He was there for 2 months and was the same angry young man when he came out. While he was there, OPI took the monthly fee for his attendance and, in addition, went after what they could get from my insurance companies allowable services. Too many of the good reviews are from prior staff, there must be a reason. Save your money, I now see that is what they are after. read more

Very sketchy recruitment practices. Tried to persuade my daughter to go there rather than to another high quality program that takes insurance. Preying on vulnerable individuals, calling many times, sending numerous texts, acting like they are "friends". Beyond non-professional. Maybe they've helped some people but I would steer clear. If administration condones these types of contacts they are not a valid mental health program. read more

I have worked at OPI for 10+ years and I would not have stayed if I didn't truly believe in the work that we do and positive results that we see. We are truly saving young adults lives everyday and giving them the opportunity to create a life worth living. The team is empathetic, compassionate, skillful and passionate about helping young adults become healthy, functional, joyful and independent. I am proud to be a part of the OPI family. read more

Unless you have buckets full of cash, don't even bother calling this facility. I called several weeks ago to see about treatment for a friend who was experiencing a difficult time her first year in college, and needed a soft place to land rather immediately . They were prompt in returning my call, I'll give them that much, but as soon as I asked if they accept insurance, it was an immediate "no go". An unsympathetic, unapologetic and unequivocally hasty and curt "no, sorry, bye" and click, was all I got. read more

it's a great program if your only problem is failure to launch. if you're struggling outside of that, stay away. I was at OPI from july 2017 to january 2020 and have more than a few issues with how the program is run. 1. despite claiming to specialize in treating BPD (a trauma based disorder), they are the exact opposite of trauma informed and i arguably gained more trauma from their "behavioral interventions" than i was able to process there. the majority of my time there, they didn't even have a trauma specialist. 2. they have a tendency to try to wipe their hands clean of "problem clients" by sending them to wilderness therapy in hopes that they don't return. i was one of the clients this happened to, who returned just to backslide again. any progress i had made in wilderness went out the window when i was back in the toxic environment that got me there in the first place 3. the drug testing is said to be random, but is based on whether or not they suspect a client of using/drinking. i know this from the fact that i got tested maybe 10 times in my two and a half years there, and i was drinking and smoking constantly bc i knew i wouldn't get tested. 4. the lack of respect for clients' individual needs is appalling. it seems like they make an effort to make things worse for clients to keep them there longer as a money grab. 5. i went through three therapists in my time there, and the third was the only one with enough respect for me to listen when i said i needed to be somewhere else. the others accused me of running away from my problems, when OPI was entirely unable to help me. i am now about to graduate from my current program which has done so much to help me. 6. the amount of bullying that happens is ridiculous, and then the victim blaming that follows is even worse. i witnessed a lot of it, and had a lot directed towards me. one of my therapists there told me it was my fault that i got bullied bc it had been a pattern throughout my life. 7. many therapists have obvious favoritism towards certain clients, leaving their others feeling resentful and hurt and unable to recover. 8. it's such an easy program to BS your way through. i've seen countless clients play nice and act recovered so they could graduate and go back to maladaptive behaviors. 9. clinicians pick and choose which rules to enforce based on favorites. clients that actively engage in sex work (i.e. onlyfans, webcamming, etc.) are treated differently by the same therapists and it's horrific. 10. residential staff tends to go on power trips and disrespect clients entirely. i reached out to everyone when a male staff member made me feel unsafe, and was told to get over it when he was placed in my apartment a month later. as if my trauma simply didn't matter. OPI needs to do better, and be better. either work towards being trauma informed/more efficient drug testing and recovery based activities/respecting that clients are people, or stop claiming to specialize in BPD. you are a failure to launch program, and claiming to be helpful with detrimental mental health issues is harmful. read more

Before OPI our daughter had a number of therapists and doctors who diagnosed her with everything from BPD to depression to bipolar disorder. All the while the primary treatment was an ever increasing mix of powerful medications. The result was a young woman incapable of finishing a class, holding a job or maintaining a relationship. Physically her hands shook, she couldn't speak coherently and she had no appetite. As she spiraled her latest doctor kept adding medications in search of the "perfect cocktail" of meds that would allow her to "function" in the real world. The bottom fell out when she stole from her only friends and was kicked out of her apartment. As parents we looked desperately for a place that would immerse her in therapy and teach her life skills. We also wanted her medication therapy evaluated and adjusted as appropriate. We found OPI and it changed her life and ours. Her therapist at OPI, Kim Greeley, was demanding and achieved amazing results. While therapy progressed our daughter was brought off all her medications except a low dose of Prozac. The transformation in our daughter was remarkable. After 7 months at OPI we had our daughter back. She was strong, confident and ready to start her life. Since leaving OPI a she is back in school...and doing great! She has friends and is enjoying a normal life. OPI a is not inexpensive but the results were amazing. We truly owe it all to the wonderful people of OPI. read more

The Roanne Program helped my daughter and family tremendously. My daughter had been in various treatment facilities for 5 consecutive years and she really needed help. We found Roanne and after three days of interviews they accepted her! She completed the program in a year and the transformation was amazing!! She is living on her own, attending college, and owns a dog that she is responsible for and is doing really well. Our family has grown as well by the treatment program and become stronger and equiped to deal with the every day challenges of a young adult in a successful manner. Without Roanne, I wouldn't want to think about where things would be today. This is an amazing program and definitely recommended!! read more
