Direct Screening - Screened area over pool

    Direct Screening

Milton knocked out a few screens in the patio covering over the pool. My landlord had tried to get…read moretwo companies to come out previously but they didn't show. The industry is very busy right now because of the storm. But my expectations are still for businesses to communicate if they can't come. So I searched YELP and sent requests for quotes. Direct Screening was one of the companies that responded. I posted on a Wednesday and Troy told me he could possibly fit me in on Sunday. He was very good and responsive with communication. He sent me a message on Thursday morning asking if he could come out in the evening since he had another job nearby. I told him he can come anytime because I was home. He text 30 minutes before he arrived. He was friendly and professional. We found another damaged screen panel that was small, and he quoted to fix it for an additional $20. His pricing overall was VERY reasonable. He repaired the screens in about an hour. It was impressive because one was directly over the pool so not possible to just put a ladder underneath. But that did not stop him from scaling the support beams and fixing the ceiling panel. After he was complete, he had several ways to pay, but we used Zelle. I would absolutely use Troy again and I will refer him to anyone else who is looking for screen repair or installation.

Do NOT use Michael's Screening. We gave him a $500 deposit for a lanai extension and roof plus a…read morescreen door. I submitted his diagram and description to the HOA architectural review board and it was denied, pending additional information. However, the screen door was approved. I forwarded the required information to Doug and all he did was text me a very poor photo of another diagram with more information, but not what the ARB wanted. Unsurprisingly it got denied again. Then I checked the reviews on Yelp and Google, which were negative. So I told him to forget the lanai and just do the screen door. Then he sent me a proper architectural drawing which cost him $200. But at this point, I really didn't trust him to do anything except my screen door and texted him I would pay the $200 for the architectural diagram he had made, but still did not want to go through with the lanai. I told him all wanted now was the screen door. He never answered the phone or replied to my voice and text messages. So he ripped me off!!! However, it was really my fault for not checking his references/reviews.

Many neighbors in my community have used his services and have had similar experiences with him. PLEASE think about and research before using this business. It's not worth the large amount of money and the grief that comes with it.

We checked with the State of Florida to make sure that his state license was valid and we confirmed with his insurance company that his insurance policy was current and valid. * 4/18/17 contract was signed to have Greg Oates of Affordable Screening & Aluminum Repair build a 13' x 20' screened enclosure that would connect to our existing covered patio. * 4/18/17 deposit paid to Greg Oates at Affordable Screening & Aluminum Repair * 5/25/17 permit was approved * 6/9/17 second payment was made to Greg at Affordable Screening & Aluminum Repair. This was half of the remaining balance * 6/19/17 Concrete was poured by a sub-contractor. Within 2 days the concrete slab had cracked full thickness and side to side with various spider cracks radiating out. We also had numerous discolored spots in the concrete. Greg Oates was contacted and he suggested various options that would be a temporary solution to the problem * 11/7/17 Concrete slab removed by sub-contractor after we contacted him and informed him of the issue * 11/9/17 new slab was poured by the concrete subcontractor * We continued to contact Greg Oates via text, email and phone messages to ask when he would be starting on the enclosure. When he did respond it was with excuses or false promises. * 12/18/17 We went to the Brevard County Court system and filed a claim in small claims courts for the unfinished work * 1/24/18 We went to small claims court and met with the judge, she encouraged us to try mediation first, which we did. The medication agreement included specific dates that items had to be completed by. We included when Greg would start and when he would have all of the work completed, and Greg agreed to the timeline. Greg Oates failed to meet the first deadline and other dates along the way. The medication agreement also stipulated that any changes to the timeline would be mutually agreed upon. Greg continued to give us excuses as to why he wasn't meeting deadlines, but not once did we MUTUALLY agree on new dates. * 2/13/18 Greg Oates and his crew did arrive to start working. * Greg continued to make mistakes and missed several key items on the enclosure. * 2/28/18 Greg stated he was done. We tried to contract Greg several times to discuss the items that were still not complete. * 3/23/18 While on the phone with Greg trying to reason with him about the items were not complete he stated he wasn't going to finish/fix the work and that he would be filing a lien against us. I have a stack of paperwork and text messages to substantiate my comments above. I would be happy to show them to anyone that is interested. Bottom line I do not recommend Greg Oates or anyone associated with Affordable screening and Aluminum Repairs.
