Bethany does a great job working with my limitations but still giving me a good workout. I love the atmosphere at Optimal.

However, I'm really disappointed in the customer service and membership handling. I'm currently on my second pregnancy, and for health reasons I was not able to work out for a period of time. I kept my membership going for about three months even though I wasn't attending, and eventually decided I needed to cancel. Because you can't cancel in person, I submitted my cancellation online within their stated cancellation window. By the time they responded, it was already one day past that window. They told me they would refund the next month's charge since I'd been charged anyway. That refund never happened. I had to call three or four times, go back and forth, and still never received the refund I was promised. I've also tried calling on two separate occasions recently and no one answered the phone. In the end, I'm out about $170 for a month I was told would be refunded, on top of the previous months I kept the membership active while unable to use it. I had even told them I planned on coming back once I was cleared to work out again, but this experience has really changed how I feel about the company. The workouts and coaches are truly great, but the way my cancellation and refund were handled has been very frustrating and discouraging, especially as a long-time member and pregnant mom trying to do the right thing.

Great coaches, amazing workouts. 10/10 recommend to anyone looking for workouts that push you to…read moreyour max in a great environment

I recently used the lap pool a couple of times and found it dirty. When I asked the lifeguards…read moreabout it they explained that the vacuum had broken in summer / fall 2025 and they don't clean the pool. I reached out to the Aquatics Director, Kari Price, and after getting no response in just over two weeks I asked to speak with someone above her. Jacob Stein, Branch Director, approached me & said you wanted to talk to me? I tired to explain the issue when he asked me: How do you know it was dirt Did you put it there Maybe Kari has been out of the office The lifeguards aren't telling the truth I asked him if he was trying to pick a fight with me, he said I was being aggressive as I tried to explain what the issue was. There was no resolution as I could see he was not going to help.

They are also located in two different rooms so if you can't get the machines you want in a row in one room, you go back and forth and end up waiting a lot. Some people do ten reps and then sit and play on their phones for ten minutes. Machines can be in use for half an hour or more with some people. The lack of machines makes it impossible to keep going while your muscles are warmed up and ready. You waste a lot of time waiting around. Don't expect to use the same machines or be able to use them in order or you'll be there all day. I have to go in the mornings due to other obligations. That's when the trainers have groups of people they're working with. I guess since those groups are paying for membership AND the trainer, they get first dibs on everything. The one room with the rowing machines is off limits when the trainer has a session and he has sessions all morning. I paid the ridiculous joiner's fee and the monthly fee, but I don't get access to equipment I would like to use that's nowhere else because of the training group. The group's music is loud and the people are even louder. The trainer is rude to anyone not in his group. He physically blocked me from a machine the last time I was there because his person had one more set. His person was resting between the sets. I would have been done with my whole workout, but I just left without finishing. Trainers and their people should have a separate area to do their thing so they don't interrupt all the other paid members. The facility needs more machines that aren't the free weight variety. Doesn't matter to me anymore. I'm done with the place. It's not worth the frustration.

The manager argued with me that it was nothing wrong on their end, so I canceled my membership. They were unwilling to reverse the late fees. I was a member there for over 10 years. They have signs all over the walls with rules. Rules everywhere. Never once in 10 years did I ever see any employee enforce any of the rules. Their whole focus is on having a judgment free zone, big signs with rules on dress code, dropping, slamming weights. That's the reason I joined was to get away from those things. Never saw any of those rules enforced ever.

(with an occasional positive experience, too far in between, considering you are paying for a service!) I first got a membership here before they even opened their first location, in Wichita. Everything sounded promising and for the first few months (while they were still trying to get more people in there), there were no issues. I mean, I saw this lady pour a whole bottle of water on the floor and one of the staff was in a joyful mood to actually clean it up. Like it was no big deal. Everyone came in with cut out shirts (a lot of people actually cut out the sleeves to the shirts they give out and used them as cut out shirts!) -- They always welcomed you with a smile. As the gym started to get more packed, more members, the staffs attitude started to change. - The smile at the door turned into an attitude, like you owed them anything for just showing up. - The cut out shirts became an issue. - Any simple question were answered with smartass remarks. The sad part was I went from working out everyday to just dreading having to go to the gym and deal with the bullshit. It became so weird to not be able to workout in workout clothes, that I stopped going to the gym altogether. Here I am, paying for the Black Card Membership and not showing up at the gym... So eventually I just cancelled my membership. I started going with my fiance (who also has a BCM) -- not as often as I used to before. We finally started going later in the day (10pm-12am) and the guy that was there as staff was cool enough to just not care if people were wearing cut out shirts or complaint about things that shouldn't matter. Needless to say, I got myself a membership again (after 8 months of tagging along with someone else). First few times, I kept going at night, no big deal. The first time I go in the morning... Something happens! I walked in, this girl took my number just fine. I went and warmed up, and started lifting... 15 minutes into a workout the same girl who took my number when I first came in, approaches me with a shirt on her hand. Staff: "Would a small work?" Me: Excuse me? Staff: "Would a small shirt work for you?" Me: I don't know what you're trying to say... Staff: "Well, technically you cannot be in here with a sports bra and a cut out shirt over it, even if it just shows have an inch of your ribs..." Me: "Well, I come here at night and its never an issue..." Staff: "Thats something that would have to be addressed with my manager." I seriously didnt even know what to say... everyone around me (other members) were just looking at the situation... I felt embarrassed and humiliated. So much for no judgement. I have seen a 300lb lady in a long skirt, using a treadmill (like that isnt a safety issue in itself!) -- nobody addressed the "dresscode" (that it's not even in the contract!) Girls workout in booty shorts, ALL THE TIME, no issue at all. But wearing a shirt over a sports bra where all you see is half an inch of someones ribs is a huge problem to the point where you have to change or leave? It's ridiculous! Who wants to workout in a t-shirt and get the shirt all sweaty and stuck to your body (especially in the summer!) -- it's disgusting. Who says that you cannot wear gym attire at the gym? Planet Fitness. But eat pizza there? SURE! And grab a tootsie roll on the way out too! It's a joke. I wouldn't recommend this gym to anyone. And I so regret ever signing up for a membership again with the hopes that the bullshit was in the past. Oh well, live and learn...
