My fiancé and I were very displeased when it became clear that we had been the target of a bait and switch. We were extremely stressed when this became clear one week before our wedding. I would recommend steering clear of this company.
We completed a reservation form through Opex Limousine, fully disclosing at that time that we were using the services for a wedding. We received a quote back which reflected a service type as "Wedding." We agreed to their three hour minimum at a rate of $110/hr and specified two trips only: hotel to church, church to reception, all within the downtown core. We specified there were to be no additional stops and no additional services were required. The final quoted rate was $330+tax and tip.
When we were asked to sign the online documents to confirm the transportation, the price had ballooned to $1,200.
Upon inquiry, we were told weddings required a six hour minimum, at a completely different hourly rate. When we asked what we would be getting in return, we were told it included unlimited stops, a "just married" sign and some other amenities we had no interest in. We reiterated that we required two stops only, and requested that they make no special arrangements whatsoever. When we asked again, "what is the difference in service level when you have removed all of these undesired amenities?" They admitted the only difference was that the driver would wear a suit.
Perhaps he planned to use the additional $900 we would be paying him to take a Porter flight to Newark, where he would score an sweet deal on a Halston three-piece at Century 21.
The only compromise they would make was to allow us to book three hours, rather than six, however, with their new "wedding rate" the cost was still twice as much as our original estimate. We promptly cancelled the service completely, which is a shame, because we were planning to request additional services at the end of the evening for ourselves, and for some of our elderly guests.
This company needs to understand that the wedding industry is very small. Our day-of-coordinator, a senior Wedding and Special Events Coordinator at Oliver and Bonnacini (and the rest of her colleagues) were not impressed when we explained why we would be using über for transportation throughout our wedding day. read more
