Now, I have been up and down all over Fairway Drive back in the day.. so this shop was new to me. When I first walked in... I had to pick my jaw up of their floor. This has got to be the most beautiful tattoo/body piercing shop I have ever been to. If you are a plant lover, your going to be in heaven! Find something to pierce or tattoo just so you can enjoy the feng shui space they have created. I felt peaceful and with harmony.. I first spoke to Jay. Rad dude! He was tattooing an octopus when I walked in. Then I met Tessa. She helped me find my jewelery and even installed it for me to help me get on my way faster. While here, I got to meet Athena, who's tattoos I have seen in Instagram before coming here, so it was very cool to meet someone I have only seen online. I also noticed them taking special care to consult with and guide folks who were new to tattoos without coming across as condescending, which was really awesome. A huge shout out to Travis. He was super friendly and communicative and really collaborated with me to nail down a design I loved. He executed the tattoo to perfection as well and added a bunch of details that made my memorial tattoo really sing. He even took the time after I left to message me with some aftercare tips. Which is so silly because making the appointment is so easy through their website. I've now had 5 total piercings at DV8 over the course of the last year and a half on my ear curation journey. All are healing well and I'm very happy with the placements.  Keep in mind the jewelry is not included in the piercing fee, and it can add up quick if you're a gold lover. But if you're getting subsequent piercings, they allow you to bring in any previous jewelry that you've already purchased from them to use for future piercings. Just keep in mind that your appointment may take a little longer because they will need to sanitize the jewelry. I'm most impressed with the detailed aftercare instructions. I was horrified by the lack of instructions my sister received after being pierced at a VERY POPULAR piercing place in Berkely on Telegraph Ave (you know the place). She came with me to one of my appointments at DV8 and said, wow, they didn't tell me ANY of that stuff at the other place. And I was like, I KNOW - that's why I only come to DV8. They are also certified by the Association of Professional Piercers, so I feel confident that everything they do is safe and sanitary.

This turned out to be $25 per ear, which does NOT include the price of jewelry. I picked some of the simplest studs they offered, and those plus the backing came out to an additional $86. We were told they would not use outside jewelry- which is fine, but with prices like these? Ouch!! Overall quality was acceptable, but $136 before tax and tip is much too high for a basic piercing.

Fast forward to Christmas Eve, I text her and said, "Let's go the day after Christmas. No excuses." I searched for a tattoo shop with good reviews and found Lucky Buddha Tattoo. Since it was Christmas Eve night, I couldn't get ahold of anyone (understandably), so we decided to just try our luck the next day. The shop is located off San Juan and Madison, which can be a busy area, but there's parking right out front... huge win. When we walked in, we were greeted by their apprentice, Sophia, who was incredibly sweet and welcoming. We explained what we wanted and hoped we could get it done that day. Our original idea was to place the tattoo on the palm area, but Sophia was very transparent about how ink usually doesn't hold well there. She suggested an alternative placement that still worked perfectly with our vision. After discussing the price, we decided to go for it. Luckily, she had availability right then and there. She was so patient, making every tweak and edit we asked for without hesitation or attitude Absolute gem. While she was designing, we hung out up front and got some unexpected puppy therapy! their sweet pit bull wandered over and decided my friend was her chosen human. She jumped right into her lap and chilled, which was especially adorable since my friend is normally scared of big dogs. Instant icebreaker. The entire vibe of the shop was warm, friendly, and chill. The owner even came out and chatted with us for a bit, which just added to the good energy. Once we finalized the design, Sophia got to work. She had a gentle hand, and each tattoo only took about 20 minutes. We walked out beyond happy. the tattoos came out perfect, and the experience was even better.
