Specialties
Open Door Therapy is a relationship-focused private practice centered on the romantic relationship. Across every stage of a romantic relationship, Terri DiMatteo, LPC, helps individuals and couples strengthen, deepen, and repair their romantic bond.
The practice has developed particular expertise in three areas: couples counseling, infidelity and affair recovery, and recovery from narcissistic abuse. At the same time, Open Door Therapy works with the full range of concerns that can arise within romantic relationships.
These include dating and commitment, pre-marital counseling, sex and intimacy, emotional distance, relationship conflict, unresolved issues, communication, blended family issues, in-law issues, re-marriage, break-ups, separation and divorce, and relationship indecision.
Whether a couple is finding its way, building a life together, struggling with distance or conflict, navigating betrayal, or facing a significant decision, Open Door Therapy brings a focused understanding of romantic relationships to the work.
History
Established in 2012.
From Westfield to Princeton, Always New Jersey
The story of Open Door Therapy begins in 2012 in Westfield’s beautiful downtown. The name was chosen to express an open and warm welcome to clients.
Over the years, the practice gradually evolved into a niche, relationship-focused practice centered on romantic relationships and affair recovery. In 2015, the relationship-focused blog LoveBonds was created, followed by the LoveBonds podcast in 2017. LoveBonds has since been recognized by FeedSpot as one of the best Couples Therapy podcasts and by the Podyssey podcast community as one of the Best Infidelity Podcasts.
In 2020, Open Door Therapy relocated to Princeton and expanded its online practice throughout New Jersey. Weekend appointment hours were added in 2024, followed by individual Consulting Services in 2026.
Although Open Door Therapy has evolved, its steadfast commitment to providing a welcoming, thoughtful, and trusted place for clients has remained constant.
Meet the Business Owner: Terri D.
I began my professional life as an Early Childhood Specialist and New Jersey Elementary Certified Teacher. After decades as an educator, I transitioned into counseling and became a New Jersey Licensed Professional Counselor. Shortly after, I established Open Door Therapy.
Over the years, my work became deeply focused on relationships. I developed my own approach to helping individuals and couples navigate relationship challenges, strengthen connection, and repair what has been damaged. This work led to The Intimacy Bond, my clinical framework for understanding romantic love and the bond between partners.
Today, my clinical specialties include couples counseling, infidelity and affair recovery, and recovery from narcissistic abuse. I also offer individual consulting for personal, relationship, family, and professional concerns.
I bring years of experience, genuine curiosity about people, and deep respect for the complexity of the lives and relationships they bring through my door.
