Do not come here for trauma! I'm genuinely glad for the people that have had positive experiences with the services here, but that was not the case for me when seeing Dr. Brandstetter. As a result of my sessions with her, I have regressed in my wellbeing in nearly every facet- I've lost relationships that were previously supportive, have worse anxiety and dissociation, am harder on myself, and am less able to utilize coping skills effectively. It's been a little over a year since my last appointment with her, and every day is still a challenge. I should have sought out more experienced help sooner, but really held onto the hope of her fulfilling the promises she made me in my first appointment with her. It is clear now she does not have a good grasp on trauma, as she ignored the immense amount of upheaval in my life before seeing her and jumped right into digging up childhood trauma. For reference, EMDR, DBT, and Seeking Safety are three leading therapy modalities for trauma and ptsd which all place safety as the first and most important step in treatment. When I stated what she was focusing on was too much for me she shifted her focus to what would be considered even more advanced territory in those other treatment modalities, and this left me feeling like I was to blame for all my life problems and had no hope of overcoming them. Dr. Brandstetter refused to discuss her qualifications with me more in-depth when I began to suspect that she wasn't a good fit for me. She did not create an environment that I felt was safe, and she was at times combative. I once had to advocate for myself for over half a session for her to finally go back and realize that she had made a mistake and missed an email from me. She also accused me of not taking therapy seriously, which hurt me deeply, based on assumptions she had made about my behavior. Additionally, my current therapist (trained in EMDR) had a prior conversation with Dr. Brandstetter while I was still seeing her to make sure that their modalities weren't competing with each other. My therapist told me after my relationship with Dr. Brandstetter concluded that she came across as condescending and did not help her gain a strong enough grasp on her treatment to make a conclusion on if her and Dr. Brandstetter's therapies were at odds. It has taken a long time for me to be ready to write this review, and it is still a challenge to not blame myself for what happened. read more
