All is not lost, however, as a little shop in Pontypridd carry a good stock of most things the amateur beer and wine maker requires from kits to fermenting vessels and most of the other things required for the hobby. In addition to wine making they carry many other goods for example dried fruits a wide selection of wild nuts ,organic flour, and a large selection of loose herbs and spices, plus a selection of ethnic foods and products. The shop is run by two gentlemen Eric and Peter who are always ready for a chat and advice, which makes a complete change from the anonymiity of the supermarket. Its an old fashioned shop with a personal service and well worth a visit.

Jo's Organic Stores is a well established mini organic supermarket that receives a twice weekly delivery of organic fruit, vegetables and meat. This means that the fresh produce is always in excellent condition. They also stock a broad selection of dry goods as well as cleaning agents and equipment. On top of all of this they also stock a great selection of Fair Trade products. Without dispute this is a fantastic shop. They are incredibly friendly and helpful, and they champion small producers, ethical producers and the organic food cause... what more could you want!?!

These cross sections of cucumbers and apples can be looked through to see the grand Millennium Stadium beyond. If you're a fan of keeping your carbon footprint as small as possible, then this is the place for you. All of the products on sale here are very high quality and extremely local. This is a fantastic way to while away a Sunday afternoon. The only problem is that I'd like it to be larger with a better selection!

I have to admit I didn't end up buying much apart from bread and cakes, but they did have a huge selection of cheeses and deli style foods across the 30 odd stalls. It also has craft stores and flowers and really, really good coffee. This is probably not the place for people on a budget to do the weekly shop but a great place to pick up some really special ingredients and a fantastic way to spend an afternoon away from the city centre. This branch is pretty similar to the one in Cardiff, as it carries much the same product, but, in my estimations at least, it enjoys a better location, making it easier to get to if you are a driver. This is the shop to come to, to stock up on your quality vitamins. They do a great range of supplements, (including Solgar, which although expensive, are a good quality, reliable brand). They also carry an exclusive range of Swiss Herbal products that have proven to be a lifesaver on occasion. Beanfreaks also have an on-line shop that supports all of the products in their range. I hate to admit it, but I have considered using this service, rather than leaving the house when I have been feeling under the weather! Shame on me! (But in my defence, the last thing you need to do when you are feeling ropey is go shopping!!!). I was right about the first bit. This is a wonderful little store with a really down-to-earth and funky vibe. From the snazzy and colourful (Caribbean influenced?) frontage to the actual products on display it's clear that a lot of thought has gone into this enterprise. The focus is on organic, fresh and healthy food and drink. Towards the back of the shop the store opens up into a huge back room filled with excellent raw foods, cleaning products, teas and so much more. I googled natural food stores and Wild Oats popped up. I drove 30 miles to get to it, and they had EVERYTHING I needed, plus sugar-free, dairy-free, coconut cream ice cream alternative. The woman at the info counter was busy on her computer but stopped briefly to help me find what I needed. I'm so grateful for Wild Oats' existence!
