I'll admit it--I don't consider myself a huge car enthusiast. I couldn't tell you every make, model, or engine size, but I certainly know a beautiful automobile when I see one. This museum is filled with them. My favorite was the gorgeous 1957 Chevy Bel Air, while the award-winning Chip Foose custom 1965 Impala absolutely stopped me in my tracks. What really surprised me were all the nostalgic touches beyond the cars. The vintage Seeburg jukebox, original drive-in movie speaker, old Route 66 signs, and classic memorabilia brought back memories of a different era. It felt like stepping back in time. The funniest part of our visit had nothing to do with cars. While I wandered through the museum reading displays and taking photos, my wife did what she does best--started chatting with another visitor. I eventually caught up to find the two of them laughing like old friends. A few minutes later we were shaking hands, exchanging phone numbers, and talking about meeting for dinner sometime since they have family near Edmond. That's Route 66 in a nutshell--you never know who you'll meet. Even if you're not a die-hard car person, I'd recommend stopping here. The museum is beautifully displayed, easy to walk through, and offers a wonderful mix of classic cars, nostalgia, and Americana. It turned out to be one of those unexpected highlights that made our Route 66 adventure even more memorable. Tip: Take your time and read the information cards next to the cars. They add a lot to the experience, especially if you're like me and appreciate the stories as much as the automobiles. (I hate that I can't organize my photos )

On the way home from our 49th Hammond Batts Family Reunion, we stopped in Tulsa to visit family, and I knew it was the perfect opportunity to bring the kids to Greenwood to walk the streets of what was once known as Black Wall Street and to truly connect with our legacy. Let me tell you nothing compares to being here. The Greenwood Cultural Center is a powerful, sacred space that preserves the brilliance, resilience, and tragedy of one of the most prosperous Black communities in American history. At its height, Black Wall Street was home to over 10,000 Black residents and boasted more than 600 Black-owned businesses, including 21 churches, 21 restaurants, 30 grocery stores, a hospital, a library, a bank, two movie theaters, and even a private airplane. Yes, you read that right a private plane in the 1920s! In just 18 brutal hours during the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, an estimated 1,200 homes were burned, and over 35 square blocks of the Greenwood District were reduced to ashes by a white mob. The destruction caused an estimated $1.5 to $2 million in property loss at the time which would be over $30 million today. The human and economic toll was immeasurable, yet the story was buried for decades. Ms. Rebecca, our guide, brought the experience to life. She was brilliant, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable the kind of person who makes history stick. We later found out her mother has worked at the center for over 30 years, and that love and dedication radiated from every corner of the space. Her storytelling made us laugh, cry, and reflect. This place is not just a museum. It's a promise to never forget and to keep building. I'm already making plans to return for Juneteenth, which I hear is unforgettable here. If you're anywhere near Tulsa, even for a layover, make your way to the Greenwood Cultural Center. Bring your kids, your elders, your friends. This is not just Black history this is American history. Period. #NeverForgetGreenwood #BlackWallStreet #LegacyAndLearning #FamilyMatters #GreenwoodStrong

There's wine and pasta and fancy appetizers from a variety of local eateries. Many people donate things for a silent auction and a raffle, which increases the amount raised for hospice. It's a fun evening and a good cause. I hope you will consider being a part of it next year. Unless we die suddenly, we are likely to need the services of hospice eventually. This is a way of giving it forward and having a great time doing it.

Plenty of parking for the building, but also because it's part of a campus (aka: there are other buildings) there's extra parking from those other buildings that could be used too. The entrance/ lobby area is in the smaller side, especially compared to something more professional of course. There's a few box offices where you can buy tickets. I thought it was nice that they had more than one so it doesn't get too congested with people trying to buy tickets all at once right before a show. The auditorium is nice and fairly standard as far as it being a college auditorium. It's not fancy but it's definitely a step up compared to maybe a lot of high school auditoriums, as it should be. There's a pretty good amount of seating, probably the perfect amount for this venue and the amount of people that would be coming to stuff here. There's an orchestra section of seating, a walkway, then another section, and there's a balcony as well. The lower level is wheelchair accessible, where they have a section of a few regular chairs set up so that they can be removed (and replaced with a wheelchair) and the people sitting next to them can have seats too, though again you won't be sitting in the normal seats that way. Speaking of, the normal chairs were your classic red velvet folding down theater seats. I didn't sit in those (because I was in the wheelchair section with someone) but I'm sure they'd be comfortable, which is nice considering a lot of times you'll be sitting in them for one or two hours at a time!
