This is my local gym. I love it here because unlike other gyms that I have been a member of, there…read moreare always machines available. It is a relatively small gym, approx 5 x treadmills, 3 x rowing machines, 4 x cross trainers and maybe 4 x bikes. They run classes but I have only attended the spinning class, which was quite good. A boot camp is starting soon too which seems to be getting a lot of interest. The staff are very friendly and seem to know if you want to have a chat or to just get on with your workout. My previous gym had an atmosphere like the movie Dodgeball about it - Globo Gym - cos we're better than you. This is definitely not the case with this gym

"Jordan" is a really weird name for a YMCA and confusing to understand until you see the "Sir…read moreWilliam Jordan" full name on the door. This place played home to my roller derby team in 2011 and I continued on as a member of the gym once we found a training space that could have us on anything other than a Friday night. That said, the Jordan facilities are awesome and I'm very grateful for the use of the basketball court area for my team. We shared the space with a number of community sports teams, and the staff members at YMCA Jordan were always very obliging when we needed assistance or needed to borrow gear from their storeroom. The arena is small (one basketball court) but has bleachers that can seat a couple of hundred people if need be. This place is also super cheap to rent!

**Warning** to anyone who is thinking about or, wanting to join this gym…read more I have been a member here for the past 3 years. I have recently left this gym due to the poor management from what I believe is the new owner and definitely the manager of the gym. They've bullied the old trainers out of their positions. And, replaced these trainers whom have worked at this gym for more then 3years with unqualified trainers and staff. Half the time the gym is completely understaffed. And, when you ask management or reception staff about the changes or even gym announcements, they don't know what is going on. The manager doesn't speak good English, or doesn't understand her position there. I have asked her about the announcements and changes in the gym, which she looks at me, laughs talks really fast and tells me she doesn't know or, to ask again later??? I have even overheard her saying inappropriate things about staff to other staff members, in front of me. This is the MANAGER of MissGym. Also, there have been a few times I have come to the gym when the manager is talking in another language to her friend behind reception and ignores the people coming into the gym. It's very unprofessional and rude. For the past three weeks, MissGym have been advertising free personalised nutrition. When I ask about this, all the staff including the manager don't know anything about it. Rather advise me to email management??? Which, every time I have, even regarding the changes in the gym. I have been ignored. So, now I don't bother. Over the past two months, the gym has become very quiet. Especially when the two main trainers left. The same service and professionalism is not at the gym anymore, and barely worth the membership price they're asking for weekly. Equipment is broken or needs to be replaced. Classes get canceled without any notice. The classes are not the same. Definitely below average as they have managed now, to get rid of one of the top group fitness trainers. I would recommend anyone looking at joining this gym to seriously look elsewhere.

I've spent way too much time here over the years; it can't be helped if you have kids. The little…read moreones LOVE it and by little I mean, preschoolers and up to about age 10. There's a nice warm baby pool and the shallows of the main pool are full of interactive water thingies, and of course a slide. There's "the lazy river" which is kind of an alternative to a whirlpool but what's most special about here is the waves, dude. They don't turn the waves on all the time mainly I think because they're bloody dangerous. Hold on tight to your toddler because the floor is really slippery and the force is enough to knock adults over easily, let alone adults holding another small body. Seriously, be careful. The hydroslide is pretty cool as far as these things go but the up the stairs and the shivering is not for me. Which I'm sure is fine with the kids. My reckoning is that this is Auckland's busiest pool so if you do have a little one in the big pool it's incredibly stressful trying to keep track of them. Go when your kids can swim on their own.

I used to come to this pool every single morning to swim laps before I went to work. My absolute…read morefavourite thing about this place was the kind of clientele it encased. Rapidly aging Asian men in the most terrific striped speedos imaginable. Pregnant women. Sad people. Lots of sad people. I dunno, it was a good people watching spot. The lane pool was never overly busy and the water was always a nice refreshing temperature. The price was okay. I think pools generally are a bit of a rip off. I probably wouldn't have gone here if it wasn't the closest pool to my house. But I did, and I'm perfectly at peace with the time I spent there. Three stars.
