The shop goes back a lot further than you'd expect. It is a typical corner shopping experience, somewhere that rarely manages to please fully, down to its limited selection and slightly higher prices than you'd find elsewhere. They do have a fantastic array of Rubicon, perfect for anytime of day and not a bad alcohol selection though. Their crisp selection may be unparalleled, but don't expect anything fresh or filling to eat. Whilst they may have noodles and tins, if you're looking for something really substantial to dig your teeth into, you'll probably find yourselves drawn instantly to Royal Fisheries, just 2 doors down. I will always think fondly of Narnia, but it has never completely satisfied me as a shop.

I suspect it is most frequently visited by restaurant/cafe owners or those with massive families who stock up on huge bags of rice, pulses and other products available in 'bulk buy'. They do, however, sell single portions of things for the lone shopper who enters anyway despite the huge 'cash and carry' exterior, such as myself. I managed to find cans of Coconut milk for only 59p each which is almost half the price of other retailers. My whole basket came to less than a fiver, which would have been more around the £8 - £10 mark in most other shops. They sell vegetables, breads, and meats fresh or frozen. Biscuits, sweet goods, kitchen wear such as baking trays and other handy bits and bobs, and various cosmetics such as bath/shower gel etc. Susan is right about the name being somewhat confusing as it is mainly foods from Asia and Africa and not the common British conception of 'continental food' (deli style West European). If you are after the latter (Italian, French, Spanish etc) you are probably better off going to a deli in town or a chain supermarket.

Specialises on pulses/spices/grain/meat/breads/veg and sauces I would associate with West Indian/Pakistani/Asian and possibly even Greek cooking. I'm a regular here to stock up on spices/chick peas and even black peppercorns as they're so cheap! I also frequent the butchery for Mutton or Goat to do in a curry. Prices are fantastic, packages have a variety of sizes to suit your needs and it's like an Aladdin's Cave. Go have a snoop around, I bet they stock something you'll want to buy at a great price!

You may wonder why I am reviewing a Morrisons as most people will know what they are and what they…read moresell. If you have ever watched a TV, especially around Christmas time, it is very likely you will have seen the advert. Fake snow, big cakes, Denise Van Outen or 'that bloke from Top Gear' stroll around Morrisons looking glossy whilst their signature Take That tune blasts out in the background. If not you will probably have seen one of their 420 stores throughout the UK. They are big, garish and bright yellow. That's the one. I shop in the Morrisons in the city centre on occasion, due to their very low prices and the fact that they stock pretty much everything. But recently I visited the Hunslet branch. The difference, they have a cafe! I was starving. Having had no breakfast whatsoever, my stomach was grumbling like a grumpy old man who had lost his slippers. Food was needed fast. They had a selection of sandwiches, but they were cut into triangles and laid onto cling film covered plates with a handful of crisps and salad. Fair enough, but odd as I expected the usual packaged sarnie. They were also quite sweaty looking, with condensation on the inside of the cling film. Not very enticing. So, I thought, hot food. YUM. But I couldn't see a menu. This is how hot food works. 1. Go to counter one with a display of pictures of various breakfast type hot food. (Sausages, beans, bacon, eggs, toast etc) 2. Choose what you want and tell the lady, she then gives you a green plastic disk with your number on it. (I chose scrambled eggs on toast) 3. Go past coffee machine, grab coffee if required. 4. Go to till, hand second lady green plastic disk with number on, pay and receive a red plastic disk with number on. 5. Find a table, put red plastic disk in the flag-post-thing and await your food. Right. Done. Sip coffee. Extremely milky with hardly any actual coffee in it, cue sleepy effect instead of caffeine buzz required. Bummer. The food arrives within five minutes. Rubbery egg, soggy toast and tasteless tomatoes. Double bummer. Satisfaction: None Wallet: down £3.80

Anyway, my friend and I had a full english breakfast from here and like Alexandra said...rubbery eggs, soggy toast, really unusually hard stale beans....it just wasn't nice. I can't say much for the staff either, they're not very polite or accommodating and seem to be utterly bored of their jobs. Cheap but definitely not cheerful. Spend your money elsewhere.

Likely a charity shop or something, I guess, since there are so many of those. Anyway, Morrisons crept up sometime last year. It's a lot smaller than the Sainsbo branch, but I'm sure since its arrival Sainsbo have extended their hours by an hour to match Mozza. (11pm.) I've shopped in there once or twice but there seems to be little advantage in it -- it's smaller, so there's less variety, and I'm sure the fruit I bought was more expensive than next door. Since Sainsbury's has now matched their hours, there really isn't any reason except for items you know to be cheaper, or to save time if Sainsbury's is hella busy. (Don't get me wrong, I'm no Sainsbury's fan, it just seems like there's more bang for your buck an' that.) The staff are pretty friendly, they've two serve yourself tills and two counter tills, and there's small selection of everything you'd need for a mini shop.

I like Sainsbury's generally, but I find this one a bit of a pain in the a* if I'm honest. The…read morelayout is bizarre (I'm a Morrisons girl usually, and theirs makes sense), with clothes right next to fresh fruit and vegetables. And I don't like how the vegetables are stored in those big green boxes. It's tricksy. I went there today because I was at the Homebase next door, and was really disappointed because all I wanted was some Golden Syrup Oats So Simple, and they had sold out! The whole cereal aisle looked like a tornado had hit it. The guy at the checkout was either on day release or a bit of a stoner (will I get in trouble for saying that? Hope not). Really slow, half asleep, and even though I'd put a 'bag for life' on top of all my shopping so he could scan it through first and then I could actually pack my shopping, he decided to move it to the back of my shopping instead. He then looked at me like I was a bit mental and said in a really pitying tone 'do you need some bags then?'. No thanks Mr Stoner, I would like the bag I just gave you please. That would be awesome.

This is my local sainsbury's that I've been going to for 10 years, when it was next to blockbuster…read moreoriginally and before it doubled in size a couple of years ago! It's a good store, nothing particularly special but the staff all seem to be fairly helpful, particularly if you have young children with you, they seem to understand the pressure you can sometimes be under. The clothing section is fab, especially for children, although there is about 80% girls clothes, 20% boys, but that's always the way. Their prices are really great, especially as my little one seems to go into the next size week by week. The fish counter is lovely and the fish monger with the white beard is very helpful, although they're all ok. The cafe upstairs is nice but you need to use the lift to get up there and when it's out of order and you have your buggy with you and your shopping and you just want to go for a wee or change your baby it's a bit of a trek with an assistant to use the staff utility lift, but they do let you. The worst thing about the store is the horrendous parking, as with all sainsbury's everywhere in my experience. The spaces are far too narrow, as are the roadways between the parking, makes reversing (which I am good at before you ask) very tight, brilliant when you've got a wriggling baby to distract you as well. Handy having homebase next door too, it's walkable if you don't have to carry too much back to the car.

They sell a wide range of tinned, frozen, and fridge food, as well as magazines and confectionary. Staff were nice too.
