This one of the grandest special event venues in London! A former church designed by Sir John Soane in 1826, the Grade-1 listed venue is directly opposite Great Portland Street underground station and looks amazing with coloured lights highlighting the pillars on the entrance.
The ground floor has a reception area and the long rectangular Soane Hall, wth parquet floors leading to a raised stage ( previously and alter area ) at the very rear. This has wonderful painted frescos on the ceiling and can host dinners for 200 people. In the basement lies the Gallery space open to the public - a whitewashed brick subterranean vault that is great for drinks receptions and parties. Stairs on either side of the main hall lead up to the East, West and South Galleries, a long u-shaped room with arched windows overlooking either side and the front of the building. There's an outdoor terrace leading off the left hand side of the building - great in summer for drinks or for smokers, but suffers a bit with the main road traffic noise.
Events planners can choose their caterers and theme the whole building how they choose for weddings, fashion shows or dinners.
I visited for an evening networking function and was really impressed - registration desk in the reception, then guests could love through to the hall with a few stands and a main bar in the rear.
Canapes were served and upstairs, more stands and another bar meant you could move easily about and still get drinks and food. A dessert bar in the East Gallery let guests pack their own sweet goodie bags with maccaroon lollipos, jelly beans and mini chocolate eclairs - Yum!
