Tourist trap but glad it only cost $2 per entry. I like how they protect it with a special code once you pay the entrance fee in the gift shop. It was cool that they set it up as a real functioning household too so that you can get a full experience. Very quick to see but a great stop over.

If you need a place to stop and stretch your legs this WAS the spot. $2 to get the code to the door it was previously Family owned and operated... now you can tell the dispensary has taken it over. Kinda sad, but happy it's still open. Bathrooms are scary dirty now, no soft serve ice cream, and the only friendly face was a security guard.

I can turn any roadtrip into a fun-filed, historic site seeing, multi-stop vacation that takes twice as long as it should. So, if you have patience and interest, I'm can plan a killer trip and fit it all into two days. The past weekend we worked our way up the Northern California Coast, stopping at beaches along the coastal highway, landmarks, and then tons of random spots that sight-seeing tourists just can't miss. One of these was the One-Log Cabin in Garberville. Admission is $1 each and you pay inside the gift shop. Since my last visit up that direction, the gift shop has introduced a cannabis dispensary next to their coffee shop. If you're over 18 it's worth popping your head in, but prices for items (on the low-end) were about 4x as high as the Bay Area. The coffee shop was great and we ordered Mexican Mocha's ($5.20 each) and Chai Tea on our way up and again going back down to the Bay Area. They sell Humboldt featured clothing and other items like snacks and knives and gifts to take home. The One Log Home itself is just right outside and is really neat. It's definitely worth the $1 admission! The tiny home is adorable and has electricity and plumbing inside (the lights work but not sure if there's actually running water). Two little beds and great deco complete the Log Home. Don't miss this if you're driving through!

You won't miss this store. There's a big sign that says ONE LOG HOUSE. It's pretty generic inside as well as outside. carved stuff from redwood trees. What caught my attention was a piece of wood that varies in size that's wrapped in plastic they call BURL. It's the tumor like growth on the trunk of a redwood tree. Apparently it doesn't hurt the RWT when you remove these guys. They practically grow anywhere too as long as you give it water. It craves water! I thought that was cool. You can grow your own RWT at home. This store has really clean bathroom. They serve good strong coffee and they leave you alone to shop around. I likey!

    Restaurant sign. Pull in here!

Lovely coffee shop with a little gift shop full of t-shirts and souvenirs. The homemade Mac & Cheese with Bacon was insanely good. Almost had a slight mustard taste... very tangy. Watched them grill the bacon in front of me. It was nice to visit the Grandfather tree and other souvenir shop next door too. A must-visit in the Avenue of the Giants.

The log itself was not as big as I thought it'd be. It's only $1 per person to go in so for a dollar it's worth it. The store next to it has some neat redwood pieces and they serve a good mocha coffee. But....it's a gift shop/tourist place so it wasn't spectacular. It's all about the experience though if you are traveling on Avenue of the Giants.

Driving the Avenue of the Giants you must stop at all of these retro tourist places! Admission is one dollar for adults & kids are free. A most unique house worth a dollar for a look see. Went thru the gift shop & picked up some redwood burls to take home so we can "grow our own redwood right in the comfort of our own home!" They also have a little cafe & about high noon a cold soda tasted very good!

If you're travel from south to Eureka on 101 Highway, you gotta stop by this place for pictures and souvenirs. Everywhere I travel, I gotta find a gift shop in the area to buy SHOT GLASSES. Took pictures, bought shot glasses and SPOON for my sister in law. She is a SPOON collector. And I bought buffalo jerky. Not great taste for the price but gotta try for first time. But I gave 5 star rating to this because, amazingly, how its designed a big huge log into a house. Thumbs up "One Log House"...!

pick a jerky any jerky and this gift shop will have it. The store is filled with Alpaca wool items (softest stuff in the world). Wall to wall knick knacks....be it moccassins or turquoise rings, arrowheads or coasters. The sales woman was really quite animated and stoked on her job ....(and the jerky). I really enjoyed touring the log house, as well as taking a pic with the mermaid at the entrance!

I was surprised to see they have a decent downtown strip filled with cute local stories and even a pastry shop. One of my favorite stores on this street was Blue Moon Gift Shop. As someone with grandma hobbies, I was in absolute awe at their bead collection. Anyone who enjoys making jewelry needs to visit stat. They have isles and isles filled with beads of every color and size. The rest of the shop is filled with unique crystals, spiritual goodies, art, and stationary. I purchased a small pearl ring made by a local jeweler that is now a favorite in my collection. This spot is worth stopping for! Especially if you enjoy art and locally made items.

Roadside Attraction along the Avenue of the Giants…read more While researching for places to visit in Humboldt County I came across this quirky roadside attraction that was surely supposed to be worth a stop when visiting the redwoods. The "World Famous Tree House" located in Piercy as it claimed to be may not only be closed but by the looks of it I think it may have totally gone out of business altogether OR they could just be closed during the winter season. The gift shop had a sign outside that said 'closed,' the surroundings look unkempt, next to the gift shop was a section full of unorganized stuff, empty boxes as if cleaning out the area, and the plants around the tree house were overgrown. I didn't want to go further inside the property. The deck where some chainsaw carvings were once displayed was falling apart and seemed unsafe to stand on. The tree is actually still alive. There were stairs that led below to the door of the treehouse. The other side had a window which we couldn't see anything inside because it was dark inside. The tree house was named the World's Tallest Home in a Ripley's Believe It or Not cartoon in 1933 and over time it became known as the World Famous Tree House. If it was anything like "The Living Chimney Tree" we saw in Phillipsville then I need not see inside. Unfortunately, that was all I could share about my experience. We'll try another time and maybe we'll get lucky on our next visit and find this enchanting roadside charm open. Review #2514

The town of Shelter Cove is a small coastal town so wherever you are staying in the area, this general store is easy to get to. As we pulled up, they had fresh vegetables and fruit for sale outside the store. We were warmly welcomed as soon as we entered the store and everyone was very friendly. The store is on the smaller side, although they were well stocked and had everything we were looking for. The store was clean and really well organized. I really liked that it was very easy to find everything that we were looking for. They have bear canister rentals as well as trail information if you are hiking the Lost Coast Trail. The Lost Coast Trail stretches about 25 miles along the coast and Shelter Cove is where people start or end this trail. People tend to come here (by car or plane since they have a small runway) to have a nice relaxing weekend on the coast or to hike the Lost Coast trail. If you are doing the latter and have forgotten anything, this is a good place to stop.
