Mekai at the Westminster Dog Park with his love Molly.

I don't need to tell you about the gut wrenching decision to step beyond ourselves to really listen & see the signs of your sweet dear saying, 'I am so tired, I am in pain & I am having problems breathing.' How hard was it to hear my sweet pup, that came into my life at 8 weeks old & is now 16 years old+, try to tell me that I am here for you? I am here for you. I am suppose to be there for him at every turn. I worked hard to help him through all the pain hoping to always make his walk as a senior the best possible life well-lived. Two weeks of crying, talking to his higher self & telling him that it is okay to let go, I heard him say it is time. I searched for the best scenario for our family. Dr. Cordiero was our answer. He is amazing & I am sure sent by all the sprites that we needed to help us navigate this difficult time. From the moment he entered our home, he sat on the floor with tons of tears and curious animals around him. All of our clan felt Dr. C's love & his gentle walk welcomed all of us into the heart wrenching & heart freeing journey of letting go. Mekai, came up to him for love & gently rested by him which was the cue I needed that all was going to be okay. Mekai literally passed with a treat in his mouth and Dr. C gently talked us through the next steps & loved our animals to celebrate a life well-lived. He also held my crushed self in gentle regard & reminded me that I/we made the right choice for our love. So needed this & still revisit the decision in my mind. At every turn, I get...'I am free Mom and I don't remember the pain.' Our clan shouts our love to him every morning & every night. Heis free of pain & apparently dancing freely! Love to you & your team Dr. C. From us to you...you were sent from above. XOXO, Kristen, Mekai, Molly, Maizy, Kaya & Inyo

After my veterinarian told me the best thing I could do for my sweet 17 year old kitty was pick him up from her office and start saying my goodbyes, I was crushed. Of course I knew this day was coming, but I'd hoped my Pasha and I would have had a few more years together. The receptionist gave me a slip of paper with four companies that do home euthanasia. I started Googling them that night. One Last Gift was the first one I checked out and the website made a good impression on me straight away. Two of the companies I discarded immediately, but there was one other place I kept in the running just in case something didn't work out. The next morning I made my calls. I called One Last Gift first, but ended up hanging up because I couldn't bring myself to leave a message. I called the other company and just didn't feel great about it, so I called One Last Gift back, left a message, and am very grateful that I did. The doctor's assistant Danica called me back before long. She was very kind and sympathetic without seeming patronizing, even though I was a total mess. After out initial call, she told me I could just text her to set up the house call and provide any additional details, which was a very helpful and thoughtful service as I didn't want to talk on the phone, and I can imagine lot of people in my position don't want to talk either. The doctor was very compassionate and patient with us, and especially my darling Pasha. We truly appreciated his calm and empathy during his visit. Even though it was clear that he loves dogs, he was wonderfully gentle and caring with my kitty.

Jason Cordiero was phenomenal, he is very well trained in all things veternarian, and even took classes on death and dying, and grief counseling. He came to my home on a sunday afternoon and was so patient and caring. Letting my neighbor children say good bye, and waiting for me to compose myself for my own good bye. The dog was cancer ridden and could hardly breathe. the final symptoms came on suddenly and i was faced with the necessity to do something immediately as he was suffering. He was flexible on the price and I would call him again at triple what i gave him at the time. I have my paw print still ten years later and I made a book of my precious Hunter and his wonderful years with us. Jason is the one to call. Period. Go to his website and see what it is like, very comprehensive and he really cares deeply about you and your needs.

Kleo was a part of our family, and our hearts were broken when we learned we had to put her down due to health issues. Today was made much easier by the gentle, kind, and loving approach of Dr. Cordiero. I truly felt that Kleo left us peacefully, happily, and in her favorite spot. I could not thank Dr. Cordiero more for making this possible and being so kind throughout the process.

In my world, pets are family. Saying goodbye to a family member is never easy. Having to schedule that final parting, being able to write a date and time in your calendar for death is the weirdest, most sickening feeling in the world. Still worse is imagining taking an ailing beloved pet to a place that many dislike- a loud, scary, smells like medicine and sharp things place; the vet's office. Thanks to One Last Gift and Dr. Jason Cordiero, some of the pain of making this tough decision is eliminated as he will come to your home to help you say goodbye. Jason has helped me say goodbye to two of my own fur babies over the last 3 years, and has also helped a few of my friends that I have referred him to. Jason or his assistant will patiently talk to you on the phone so that you understand the process, making you feel better about the "when" and the "how" of this terrible but merciful choice. He has the toughest job in the world and does it with kindness and compassion that is indescribable. He brings a gentleness, a dignity and a peace for both the pet and the pets two and four legged family. The process is quite peaceful, and witnessing it can bring closure to both the humans and other animals in the household. I will forever feel an indescribable gratitude for Jason and the guidance and help he has given me and my animals when we were in times of desperation.

We saw Dr. Wydallis, showing her video of Nico's reverse sneezing attacks and telling her about all the places we've recently traveled. We were prescribed a ten day supply of Doxycycline. After the ten days of that antibiotic were complete, Nico had not improved and also developed really bad nasal discharge. After she started having blood in her nasal discharge, we went back to Foxtail for a follow up. This time Nico was seen by Dr. Grubb. We went over the whole history including explaining all the travel we had done. We were given another ten day supply of another antibiotic, Clavamox. After the second ten day supply of antibiotics failed to improve Nico's health, we contacted Foxtail again. We spoke to Dr. Grubb and, based on her suggestion, we scheduled Nico for a nasal flush along with having a specialist perform a rhinoscopy. The rhinoscopy showed no foreign bodies in her nasal passages. The biopsies also were negative. For two days, she seemed to be doing better. After the two days, the significant nasal discharge was back. Nico had also developed a deep, wet cough. We, again, contacted Foxtail. We, again, saw Dr. Wydallis. She listened to Nico's lungs and took some x-rays. Dr. Wydallis stated she didn't see anything concerning in the x-rays but they would have to be sent out to be looked at. Since this was a Saturday, we were told they would likely have results on Monday. We were also given another ten day supply of Doxycycline. This is now the fourth ten day supply of antibiotics that have proven to be ineffective. The next day, we ended up rushing Nico to UrgentVet with a fever of 104. They examined Nico and took more x-rays. Nico had developed pneumonia following the rhinoscopy, which UrgentVet explained was a common complication from the procedure. We were NEVER made aware of the risk of pneumonia from Foxtail. UrgentVet expressed surprise that Foxtail's X-ray wasn't examined by a radiologist and said that given how ill she was now, more ought to have been done the day before. They gave us a different medication for the pneumonia which helped bring Nico's fever down. We made a follow up appointment at CCAPM and Dr. Landry. Again, we explained the whole story from the beginning including our travel history. He asked, with the travel history, had Foxtail completed a Fungal test. -No. He also asked if they had done a Respiratory Disease Panel and Anaerobic & Aerobic Culture. -No. He told us that, particularly if the antibiotics weren't working, all of those actions should to have been done before the rhinoscopy. Dr. Landy mentioned the possibility of atypical canine infectious respiratory disease. When we contacted Foxtail, afterwards, Dr Wydallis told us she hadn't heard of it. WHAT?!?! It was all over the news for a while. How could she not have heard of it?! After taking a couple cultures from her nasal discharge, Dr. Landry was able to pinpoint the issue and a course of action. Nico was prescribed two different antibiotics that actually helped our girl. To sum it all up, Foxtail put our girl through unnecessary, invasive and expensive procedures. She developed pneumonia due to these procedures and had to be taken to UrgentVet. She suffered through months of reverse sneezing attacks, excessive nasal discharge and breathing issues. All of this could have been avoided if we would have taken her to a more knowledgeable vet. I can't even explain how mad I am about putting our precious girl through the rhinoscopy when all it really took was gathering a couple cultures. Instead of the noninvasive method, Foxtail chose the most invasive and expensive route. All in all, it was a nearly $4000 lesson we learned. Foxtail might be okay for your basic veterinary needs. But I wouldn't risk it.

I have a special needs cat and a highly anxious dog, and I've found the services to be very affordable compared to other veterinary care that they've had in the past, whether it's regular maintenance or emergency appointments. Dr. Rob is very straightforward and does not sugarcoat things which I appreciate. I've always been able to get appointments either same-day or within a day or two when I've needed it, and the office has always been running on time when I've been. When I read that then it starts to feel personal, especially with all the time and effort I've put into training her. I did take her to a trainer when she was younger as well. She is very knowledgeable and kind, took everything at our pace and explained the steps before and during the procedure. She took measures to ensure that our kitty, Cassie was as comfortable and calm as possible. After the injection to make her sleepy we got to give her her favorite treat. She fell asleep with her tongue out, completely at peace. Dr. Stephanie came over after a few minutes and verified that she was gone and reassured us that we'd done the right thing in ending her suffering. We even had the option to keep Cassie for a few hours after she passed to say our last goodbyes before dropping her off at the aquamation center. All day we kept saying how we couldn't believe how relieved we felt and how a lot of our anxiety had been that it would not be peaceful, like the time we'd lost our other cat. We had so much closure around Cassie's passing right after it happened and I think a lot of that was due to the fact that Journey Home did such an incredible job at making Cassie's last day so normal that she didn't know what was happening. A few weeks later Cindy dropped off a beautiful package of memory keepsakes and her ashes. We will treasure them forever. The services are a bit more expensive than going in to the vets office, but was cheaper than other in-home euthanasia options we looked into. If you have the funds to invest in this, it's definitely worth it. We felt at peace with our decision and felt supported by the whole team before, during and after. If we ever have to make this decision again, we will choose Journey Home.
