One KX is a new venture, so it is too early to say how successful it will be, but I certainly hope it flourishes. It is just off Euston Road, past Camden Town Hall on the corner of Judd Street, not far from Kings Cross.
As its name doesn't even imply, it is a gym and arts centre with a cafe and a difference. It has been set up for the local community (though open to those who live or work in Camden - check with the reception staff) to provide affordable fitness sessions and arts classes.
Ribbon weaving is one craft mentioned on their website (!) - not my cup of tea, I think, but their cafe serves smoothies, cakes, croissants, and even healthy foods, all made or served by volunteers.
Classes include belly dancing, salsa, kickboxing, yoga, pilates, aerobics, and there are gym sessions (though the gym is not open all day so its best to check. There is no membership fee, but a small charge (usually a few pounds) for classes and use of the gym. There are children's sessions and classes, youth groups and drama clubs. They are welcoming volunteers and provide training in fitness instruction amongst other things. They even have a monthly market, and exhibit works of local artists. Hopefully with support of lots more lovely locals like me it will become a focal point for the already thriving (but always in need of more affordable fitness and arts) community. read more
