We did however make the best of walking around the site and taking in all of the history we could on the grounds. We also observed a ceremony that was going on when we arrived at the Victory Monument and viewed various artillery pieces on the grounds. The town of Yorktown has lots of historic buildings and things to see and do. We enjoyed walking around and taking the trolley around this beautiful village.

This famous brick house was built in the popular Georgian style of its day. The Nelson House was closed during Covid, but that didn't stop us from admiring the architectural beauty of the estate, the outbuildings, the unique fencing, the grounds and the lovely English gardens. Named for one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and a previous governor of Virginia, Thomas Nelson, Jr., the Nelson family home has a rich lineage. His grandfather built the house about 1730, and his father also occupied the house and was a prestigious politician in Yorktown. The Nelson family was influential in Virginia's history and the house stayed in the family until the early 1900's. It is now preserved for visitors, historians, lovers of architecture and everyone else to appreciate! There's so much history to see in Yorktown, so be sure to add the Nelson House to your itinerary!

Grace participates in a more formal / traditional style of worship by today's standards, but it is not formal in a stuffy and pompous way. Grace also seems to be positioned towards liberal bent and there is freedom for thought and spiritual exploration. I have been active in this church now for about 6 months and there is a deep sense of community and involvement within the church body. The calendar is full of activities and events. Moreover, there is a wide diversity of age and people of all backgrounds are embraced. The Rector, Carelton, and the associate Rector, Connie, are completely lovely people and they have exhibited genuine care for my family and I have seen their care for others on a consistent basis. I simply cannot say enough good about this church - I love it!

What a real treat for the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown to host an exhibit on Outlander…read morecostumes. The exhibit mostly included costumes from Seasons 1-4, with a piece to from 5 and 6. Wow! The museum did a wonderful job presenting the exhibit--costumes, video clips from the showing the costumes being worn -- and lots of background information about how the designed planned and prepared them. This is a must-see exhibit for both Outlander fans and those who appreciate period clothing. The exhibit also includes a few pieces of clothing that are crested on sight for use by the living history interpreters at Yorktown.

I was Leary of the water conditions " (We gonna need a bigger boat), and was ready to say screw that! But you don't get a refund if you cancel or not show, so I muscled up. I will say the captain and mate( sorry I don't remember their names) but we sailed on the Alliance. It was a bit treacherous getting off the dock, but once out in the river it was cool. Sailing under the Coleman was cool as well. We met some nice people and the Captain and his mate were really friendly, my wife even got to help hoist the sails. Would I do again...yeah just on a calmer day.

If you go on a hot day, sit towards the front of the boat because you'll get any breeze that gets mustered up by the boat's movement. I'm not a boat person, and if it wasn't so hot out, I think I would have liked it better. The crew were so friendly and informative about how the boat works and they fired a cannon, which was neat. The drinks they offered were cold and went well with the boat riding. The chairs they have are plastic folding chairs, which ended up being more comfortable than expected.

We originally had a…read morestart time for 12pm but we were running late so we called and were able to push it back to the 2pm time. Jill and her husband were super sweet and great! Helmets are required for insurance purposes. Jill gave us a map and had great recommendations on bike routes so we could see the most. It was a really cool experience and definitely highly recommend best way to see Yorktown. Super bike friendly! It was $25 per person so not bad at all.

The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and the owner is usually on site most days with her two friendly black labs that greet visitors at the door when you come in. They also have done some excellent framing for me with great attention to detail. This is custom work, not one of those "slap together' frame shops. Their framing is done to protect the artwork and will last several lifetimes.
