I use the library. The staff are very helpful. I check out books often, and I use the printer (black and white 10¢/page, which might be more economical than using a home printer). There is a seed bank there, a great resource for free vegetable, herb, and flower seeds. Children's area seems nice.
That being said...this library is very small. Very tiny, compared to our former downtown library. It's disappointing what happened there and honestly it's embarrassing that our downtown library is such a low priority.
The computer area is very cramped. It's as if it wasn't designed to be a library in the first place! (It wasn't, of course).
I love seeing historic buildings repurposed; and it does look nice and is fairly useful, but there are some SIGNIFICANT drawbacks to this space.
The accessibility is just not what should be expected in a public building. Bus service is limited and very inconvenient. Walking is very problematic, sidewalks/streets/crossings; everything is poorly designed for public use.
Parking rates are unclear until you have entered your information. The parking in front of the building is orange zone, which is fairly expensive. If you park on the west end of the building, it's green zone, which is cheaper, it would have been a nice touch if that had been extended down Jones street for another block.
I like using the library, so I didn't feel like I should give it a low rating. But the access issues are really problematic, it just wasn't done the right way. Not something we should be proud of. This is a public library and there should not be barriers that prevent people from being able to use it. read more
