We absolutely love the Gretna Public Library. As relatively new Gretna residents moving from…read moreMidtown Omaha we were pleasantly surprised with this Library. Not only do we receive books much more quickly that often required weeks or months of holds at the Omaha library, the staff is incredibly friendly. As they transition to being in a larger facility the main library and children's library are open at two different locations walking distance from each other, and due to staffing are open at alternating times, as long as you know that and check the schedule before heading out it is never a problem. They do all kinds of events at each one of the locations geared towards kids and adults alike.

This review is specifically for a breastfeeding support group I went to…read more It was my first time coming here and my daughter was around 4 months old. I had been going to the one in Council Bluffs since my daughter had been born. They had moved their lactation consultant to Women's, so I was looking for a new site to meet local mommies going through the same things as me. The support group is put on by the Papillion Department of Health. The women who hosted it were not certified lactation consultants, which was a little off putting, as I had just started cutting out dairy to see if it made a difference in my daughter. It was very chaotic and the women were not able to offer much advice, but only support. They also didn't offer boppy's or any other type of breast feeding positioning equipment, which would have been nice. They give out a gift at every meeting, and since I was a newbie, I got it. It was very nice gesture complete with baby items, and a $10 HyVee giftcard, which fueled my (decaf) Starbucks addiction. I was a little off-put by a Christian lullaby CD that they included. I don;t believe it's right for people working for the government to give out Christian paraphernalia. Alas, I tried to put my feelings aside and guess that they included it because it was donated to them. Please note that my experience to this group was in August of 2015, and things might have changed since. I would not recommend this group for a woman/family seeking true help with breastfeeding, as these women would not be able to give you the clinical help that may be needed, or help out with a pump situation. This group is more for women/families looking to get out of the house and meet up with other leaking mommas.

You will find this sculpture just outside of the Gene Leahy Mall. It is the work of Herb Mignery,…read morewho is depicting an American family, mother, father, and child as they are working on the land. The child is on his knees digging. The father is holding a shovel with a proud and determined look on his face, while the mother is washing clothes in a bucket. It sits on a cement and tile platform that has a plaque that lists its donors and another that has it title on it. The sculpture is a gift from the Mid-America Council of the Boy Scouts of America, who gave the piece to the city in 1984. It is a very nice piece and is in marvelous condition, especially considering its age. For those driving and wishing to park and get a closer look, there is metered street parking and commercial garages available within a reasonable walking distance. . As with most sculptures that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop. I was there less than 10 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.
