Alpha Growers Blueberry Farm isn't a huge production compared to some of the other farms I've…read morepicked at. This means that there aren't any fancy hay rides or t-shirts for sale. They don't have a concession stand that sells food and drink so you can make a day out of it. They aren't peddling blueberry flavored products like syrups, butters or salsa. They don't even have dancing girls and guys wearing blueberries as their bikinis (ok, Parks and Recreation flashback there). What you get at Alpha Growers is simply blueberry picking. J-Fur, the little one and I arrived at Alpha Growers right when they opened. There wasn't a long line as a lot of people were probably still finishing up their breakfast and church going rituals. The lady running the stand gave us each a bucket and a tie so that we could wrap it around our waste and do some hands free picking. She pointed out the different blueberry options they had available. There was a slightly sweeter version in one section of the farm and a tarter version in another. We decided to go for the sweeter variety. The berry plants were arranged in rows which were spaced nicely so that there was easy access to the fruit. Even when J-Fur and I worked side-by-side or another group came through the area we were clearing out, we had plenty of space to maneuver to find the best berries. How do we know they were the best? Free sampling of course. The farm encourages you to sample (read gorge yourself) on their product. We stayed out about an hour before the little one grew restless. We had nearly filled two buckets which, by my account, should've come to about ten pounds. The lady at the counter didn't even weigh our product. She just went ahead and charged us for five pounds of berries. Score! BOGO deals at the You-Pick farm. She packed the berries into some plastic bags and sent us on our way. While Alpha Growers Blueberry Farm won't give you the "experience" that some farms might, they will give you a product that is well worth picking.

Foundation Coffee up the road a short stretch. What more could you ask for? They also have terrific events for kids (art or farm tours) and families (yoga). So follow them on Facebook and our Instagram. They are out east of Tampa so if you live out that way or are out that way def stop in. You won't regret it. Feel good wholesome food that supports out local economy. And the prices are quite fair. Also Gulf Coast Sourdough and some other treats. Very kid friendly. Wholesome. If you're in South Tampa, South Tampa Farm is also cool and Sweetwater Farm is great in Town and Country, but this spot may be even better, especially for out east toward Brandon and Riverview. Good clean healthy fun. Fresh tumeric. Ginger. Other spices. Swiss chard. Keep in mind the local produce especially is seasonal. Fall and spring especially lots on offer. Beans. Pole beans. Okra. Maters. Beautiful and farm fresh grown. One of my fav places in the area. Makes me smile
