I researched engagement rings and diamonds extensively both online and by going to high-end jewelry stores prior to discovering Aaron, The Diamond Shopper. Thanks to Aaron, I received the most beautiful engagement ring, which was so much nicer than anything that I saw at the high-end jewelry stores, and at a much lower price. With Aaron, I was able to create a beautiful fully customized engagement ring starting with the diamond. My princess was very particular in the type of diamond that she wanted. She obviously wanted a real diamond, and not a lab created one. Aaron helped me to find the nicest diamond to meet the stringent the colour, clarity, cut and size/carat requirements of a princess. Aaron designed and built a six-prong platinum ring with my princess's birthstone (which happens to be diamond) underneath the main diamond. The final product was a beautiful ring that complimented the long slender fingers of my princess. The purchasing process started with diamond selection. Aaron provided me with a list of diamonds to review based on my submitted requirements. Once I made my selection, Aaron ordered the diamond, and then met with me to inspect the diamond using Aaron's specialty equipment, which also included inspecting the GIA report number (which is microscopically engraved on the outer girdle of the diamond). Prior to building the ring, Aaron worked with me to understand exactly what I wanted the ring to look like; he provided me with some expert advice and suggestions to make the ring even nicer, and then provided me with a CAD design to review and approve. Once the ring was completed, I met with Aaron again for the final ring inspection, which also included verification of the microscopically engraved GIA report number on the diamond. The ring came with the GIA Certificate, an appraisal by an Independent Graduate Gemologist appraiser, and a beautiful ring box. My princess absolutely loves her ring! Thank you so very much Aaron!

The 5 gram was 957, divided by 2 for 483, however the 1g at 197 multiplied by 2.5 is 492. If this business was honest, the price I would have received would have been somewhere in the middle. However this company seems to be doing the most to pay you the least. Be careful when dealing with this company.

Very informative: My husband works as an Electrician and therefore they adjusted ring recommendations to rings that don't scratch easily. They also taught me how to clean the rings to keep it an extra shine as well as mentioned how easy it is to resize in the future. We heard about Hollywood Diamond through word-of-mouth, and thought we could sit down to educate ourselves about diamonds, as well as try on some settings. Thach and his wife had the patience of saints to sit down with us for 2 hours to educate us on the 4 C's of a diamond, lab vs. mined, sizing, settings, literally any question and concern we could think of - Thach took seriously and alleviated our thoughts. Overall, it was a very pleasant, low pressure experience and to seal the deal, the pricing was unbeatable when we compared to online retailers. The cherry on top was that we were visiting from Vancouver, and Hollywood Diamond was able to get the ring completed for us in 10 days! That's unheard of, and we are grateful to the Thai family for going above and beyond.

The two rings we wanted to sell were not great and they were not trash. They were middle of the road and we had realistic expectations when we entered Harold's. So, after he took possession of our rings he immediately got on his cell phone. He remained on and off his cell phone for the entire hour we were basically held hostage in his back room. Whenever we tried to negotiate, the phone magically rang. He screamed at his wife. He yelled at every single person he talked to. The conclusion i could draw was that he doesn't respect a single person he talked to on that day. In the middle of this nonsense, a group of men came in. Obviously Harold didn't like the looks of them because he locked up the cages and made them talk to him through bars...even as they could plainly see us sitting comfortably at his desk. He talked to them like they were scum and in the end there was no transaction completed. Finally, he came back to us. At that point, I wanted the rings back and to get out of there ASAP. He refused to offer a fair price so we took the rings back, at which point he treated us like we were in the wrong for not taking his price. He was rude, arrogant, and pretty much mean. I'd never do business with Harold the Jewellery buyer, even if he was the last gold buyer in Toronto. This experience is the mark by which I measure all bad customer service, and I have yet to have another experience reach the pinnacle of bad experiences that this instance did. Please, do yourself a favour and avoid this place at all costs.

Gave it a 1 only because i couldn't give it a 0. Went into the place planing to sell a watch. I was checking different places to find what the best price for me was so the watch I was selling was worth quite a lot. Checked Oren and harold which offered us a final price of $6000 for it which we declined. Went to a bunch of pawn shops who offered from a range of $5000-$6000. When I came to olivers Jewlery however, we came in and gave the worker the watch to look at and we told him the price we wanted. He didn't agree to us and told us he would give us a better deal then anyone else in the city. He ended up taking it to the back and telling us he would only give us $4000 on the watch. We were unhappy and demanded the watch back but he told us that he shipped the watch out somewhere and that we couldn't have it back til tomorrow. Again we demanded it back but he repeated that we couldn't get it back and that we should take the $4000 and if we didn't want it we could bring the money back to the store and get our watch back. We took the money afraid that if we came back he wouldn't give our watch back. So when we came back moments later to clarify things he told us that we can never get our watch back and that its final and told us that he never said that we could get our watch back. He also said that he never said we could get our watch back even though he said we could come back tomorrow to get it. He told us if we wanted the watch back earlier he would have got it back for us, which was a lie. We did ask for it back but he refused to give it back to us and then told us we would never get it back. We didn't sign any papers agreeing to anything we just gave him the watch to look at the amount we would get but he just takes our watch and ships it off without our consent. Very upset with the worker treating us like we didn't know anything. Following that he told us that all the shops they associate with each other but when asked to call Oren for confirmation on the price they gave us a few days back he refused and said that Oren was garbage and started smack talking Oren saying that their place was a dump and smelled like garbage and that they're broke and dont actually have money. I felt extremely upset knowing that we came in just wanting to see if the price was worth it but instead got our watch taken from us without our agreement or even getting a chance to sign anything. He scammed us by saying we could come back to get the watch and if this remains to bother me i'd prefer to just take this into legal matters and take it to higher grounds. read more

This place will give you cash which is nice, if like me you can't do much with a cheque. It's actually quite an experience going there, especially if you grew up in Toronto lol. If you have a bunch of silver or gold bullion, you shouldn't really be selling it to begin with, it's a good long term investment. I went there and sold some of my silver bullion, which of course they offer you a very low price, below spot. Someone here said they went to Canada PMX in Richmond Hill, and yeah they're right, you're probably better off there. I didn't know they did that, I sold 14 ounces of silver for $250, when the spot price would have yielded $295.4. He agreed after I refused to sell it for $220. You can have some fun bartering with them, cause they'll often pay out a lot more then they let on, if you just hold out and ask for your product back. Though they'll never give you a fair price, well what do you expect? As for the Jewellery, I don't really believe these people are being ripped off, most Jewellery actually hardly has any value, because most of the value is just in whatever gold or silver is in it, and usually it's very small. So actually I don't believe Oliver is ripping people off so much on Jewellery, cause to be honest, it doesn't really have much value to start. He'll give you a price below spot on silver and gold, I haven't checked out Canada PMX, though yeah, if you were to sell maybe ask them ahead. Definitely your best bet is to not to sell your silver or gold. That stuff is hard currency, and is the best way to save. Definite bear trap, though I gave a high review simply because I chose to make the deal regardless and could buy some groceries with the cash. So thanks anyway Oliver! Would be cool to actually meet the dude in person. And people writing these reviews have some serious disrespect for entrepreneurs, which is shameful. This guy made growing up in Toronto fun and humorous with his wacky commercials. He puts more on the line buying your garbage jewellery than you often do selling it. Russell Oliver and his staff are unprofessional, cheap and rude to the customers. The guys who work there are real pieces of work and awful to deal with. Was comforting to hear that there have been others with a similar experiences with Russell Oliver and that this guy is getting exposed over the web for the type of person he really is, as well as, his business practices. My mom went in with the intent to get an appraisal for her jewellery. She asked if they provide such a service and they said 'yes'. When she brought out what she had, the customer service representative gave some ridiculously low offer. She said- "No thanks, I'm only looking to have the jewellery appraised". The rep said, hold-on a second... then, Russell Oliver came out. He tried to work his magic. He gave slightly higher offers but, still for much less than the jewellery was worth. After declining for a second time, the offers got higher.... it quickly became apparent that he was becoming sarcastic. He then became insulting and made snide remarks to my Mom. Then, Russell O. made another comment or two directed at myself and insinuated that my Mom and I made a 'lovely couple' (despite the obvious age difference). Nothing was done to him other than refuse to sell her gold jewellery. Considering that my Mom was obviously extremely upset by the situation it was very difficult to hold back and not to become verbally confrontational. Given the level of service provided we will definitely never return to his store or ever suggest this business to others. read more

Just absolutely horrible. I've been meaning to put the word out there for awhile but just havent had the time. Anyhow, the time has come... This is the deal, I'm a smart consumer (as most of us try to be), and I did my research. This included going to all the of the competitors, Harold, Oren and Oliver. No point in going to those other small guys. Is it fun to sell gold, silver or any other type of jewelry? In simple english, no it is not. It's very difficult. We usually overpay for these types of items and when the time comes to sell, we're completely shocked at the prices. Anyhow, back to Oliver, he made an uncomfortable situation horrible. He went out of his way to make me feel like cr*p. I mean I actually wanted to cry, of the three super hero's he had to be the worst..... OOOHH YEAHH! Why was he the worst? Well: 1) He treated me like some piece of meat that speaks. 2) He tried to scam me of $500, OH YEAH! 3) I wasn't expecting it to be comfortable but of the three places, this place really was a jail cell not to mention that anyone could come into where I was standing meaning I did not feel safe what-so-ever Needless to say, I won't be coming here again. do not go do not go do not go!!!! okay so i needed cash for my tuition. i had a few items to pawn, all 14k gold. i'm so naive to have gone. thought i know where it is, i see the commercial for it time and time again, thought hey why not. so i go in, the guy tells me i can get a couple hundred dollars. the least i'm expecting is 500.00 with what i've brought in, all good quality. so he checks my id, sees i'm just of age and scams me. gives me 200.00 right away and so fast, and says have a good day. i stop for a second and ask how much one of my aunts necklace costs, he says oh i don't know we'll find out after we melt the gold. my arse, you should know how much gold costs its your job. so i just said okay, took the 200.00 and left. huge mistake to have ever of gone there. whatever they are all crooks, the guy who even gives cash looks sketchier. i had images of my jewlerry went to another pawn shop a week or so after, ends up my jewlerry was about 600.00 worth. those arseholes ripped me off by 400.00!!! bad karma for them all working at oliver ppl. have so many regrets for going there, at least now the only thing good that can come out of this was i could stop anyone going there with my review! think olivers jewlerry will give you your moneys worth think again, bunch of asses working there who just take advantage of your gold!! go somewhere else guys! hope this helps! read more

Oliver, told me my wedding/ engagement rings were worth $500....I didn't pick them up because the "time" was up and then I would have been paying more than they were worth....my spouse has dementia, so I couldn't ask him what he paid.....found time this week to go downtown to the jeweller who mad second ring (diamond).....he told me that the emerald was flawless and beautiful...he also told me that my spouse paid $4,500 for the diamond addition.....I'm thinking of taking him to court.....in my, albeit humble opinion.....this man is an outright liar and thief ......stay far away....wish to add....who was the reporter who recommended him....I read it somewhere...anyone remember who/where.....I would like to contact him and his editor!!! If I remember rightly said he (Oliver) was honest....what a bloody laugh. I needed the money, to again, replace my husbands lost teeth (he has dementia)....Oliver was aware of this.....how many elderly has he, in my opinion "ripped off"? Please let me know if anyone remembers the reporters name....want to ask what his kickback was!!! Oliver jewellers are misfits without education looking to make a quick sale. Before I write this review , Damiani jewellers paid me double the price for my gold. Don't sell your jewellery at Oliver's they are crooks!!! Two brothers working between the Woodbridge and toronto location scheming to undercut and bully you into a quick sale. I visited the Toronto store on Ellington avenue and when the uneducated crook realized I had spoken with his brother the night before in Woodbridge, he actually would not give my jewelry back to me until I provided him with information on what prices I had been quoted from other retailers. I had to threaten to call the police . At this point he patronized me and talked down to me as I walked out the door he was still yelling obscenities at me. Beware , they give you one price and if they can't bully you into the sale they get aggressive. I'm contemplating making a complaint with the police . Not a safe environment for a lady. read more

Ufortunately, I can't give 0 stars but basically I got scammed and lied to by the worker behind the counter. He took my item, said he needed to examine it better at the back, came out with cash and demanded that we took the deal, we did not want that deal and we did asked for our item back but he told us we can't get it back and that we should take the money he gave and bring it back tomorrow to get our item back. He actually offered me the lowest price in the GTA and it's actually really depressing. TIP (for any customers): Be sure to record your conversations at the store because they will use words against you and deny whatever they said. We are extremely upset about this, especially knowing that we didn't agree to anything he gave us except for the part where he said we can take the money and come back another day to get our item back. I was watching another customer doing a deal with the man behind the counter and the customer was rude from the start, mentioned they were going through a divorce, the man working was sympathetic to the situation, however when he told this customer the value of her ring she immediately became irritate and started saying horrible things to the employee. The employee tried explaining that she could not get back the money she paid for the ring because retail and cash prices aren't the same. The lady would not listen, she stormed out calling them scam artists. My interaction was perfectly fine, he took my jewellery, explained the process start to finish and paid me 80% of the market value, which was obviously less than I had originally paid for the stuff but that's understandable. It was my first experience at selling old jewelry that, quite honestly, was damaged and/or would never have been worn again. In advance, I prepared myself with information on current gold and silver prices and familiarized myself with the ratings of the jewelry being sold (gold into 10k, 14k etc:). I was welcomed in a courteous and professional manner. I asked questions and got straight answers from Jonas the buyer. The jewelry was assessed in front of me and categorized almost the same as I had. Some pieces were actually gold plated (junk jewelery)and were returned to me. It was weighed in front of me and I was paid the current market price less a commission. All in all, a more pleasant experience than I expected. read more

This people are completely nuts. There is a complete lack of professionalism and it was like being in a bar fight instead of negotiating a deal. What a complete joke that this business has even been allowed to run in Toronto in 2013. They are a bunch of wolves dressed in sheep's clothing - as soon as you have an opinion and speak for yourself they start by hurling insults at you, which in our case, lead to them dropping f-words and kicking us out of the store. We are a nice professional family who were just trying to sell some old jewelry and they treated us like trash. Stay far away, unless you need the laugh at how a bunch of grown men mimick children at a playground. read more

Reviewing as an online buyer. I've had only good results from Oliver's. I'm only interested in their Pandora items, which aren't many, but I buy what I can. It's difficult to authenticate Pandora, as some counterfeits are better than the originals and much more prolific on the street, so I don't worry too much about that. The items I've purchased have all had proper silver weight and details. The prices are unbeatable, shipping is fast, usually the next business day and often with FedEx overnight. It's a tough time for businesses right now and I like to support Canadian shops when I can. I'm happy to support Oliver's at this time. read more

I was searching for a special 10th anniversary gift for my wife, and was able to find an awesome vintage necklace-bracelet-earring set at Oliver Jewellers- despite being vintage/antique, it was in like-new condition and came packaged beautifully for the occasion. Immediately on seeing it, I knew she'd love it, and my intuition paid off, as she was ecstatic with the gift. Fantastic Experience, I was Extremely impressed by the level of expertise and attention to detail when it came to assessing my jewellery. I had several rings that were passed down to me from my grand mother, some had stones in them that I thought were just glass, but he took them and showed them to a gem grader and to my surprise they turned out to be genuine opals and sapphires, so on top of paying me for the gold, they actually paid me for the stones! Was recently browsing the Oliver Jewellery site and saw two very rare Louis Vuitton messenger bags posted, which were only available for one season several years ago. Both were advertised as in like-new condition, with all original packaging and tags. I had to have them, so called in to verify everything was really 100%, and to see whether a package deal might be possible. I strongly agree with Teresa J. where she aptly points out the incessant and aggregious persona of Mr. Oliver. Further, CP 24, pedestrian news casting at best, feels the need to pay for their broadcasting by having this "Oh yeah" neanderthal, continue to insult intelligent customers. When Oliver's original store on Eglington Ave. W. near Bathurst St. opened, Oliver's only source of business was to scam his customers on pricing when one wanted to sell their jewellery to him. Good spot to buy/sell expensive or rare jewellery, purses, watches, and other stuff like that. The staff were super chill and pretty fair with their offers on , and really easy to do business with. Offers were decent compared to some other shops in the region and I didn't really feel pressured or anything by the staff. Shipping was super quick when buying from their online site too, and they email you back about stuff right away. What a complete scam. They try to pay less than 2% of the value. Max is 5 unless you have a diamond in the size of a melon. Dont waste our time with these scam artists. Go to any other pawn shop or jewellery store . Rude staff who treat you like garbage because you are in a "pawn shop". Theh think they have you committed once you walk through the door. Had to cajole him into actually testing the gems, and wouldn't even look at some of the pieces closely. Was driving a hard bargain and tried to buy an antique coin off me for its weight in gold because it was "basically worthless". Showed him a piece I was wearing that I had recently appraised at $1000 just to see what he would say, for comparison, and he snorted. Brought them to a different appraiser who treated me respectfully and got each of them valued at a couple thousand a piece. This guy's a shyster. Stay away.
