I was fortunate to have tasted their full range of wines with the winemaker and toured their historic cellar. The wines were stunning and the 2010 Kallstadter Saumagen Riesling Kabinett Trocken was my favorite that I tasted. The wine has a beautiful balance of elegance and richness. It has great minerality and is full-bodied with bright acidity. This wine is just a glimpse of the fabulous treats this winery has to offer. I've even found Koehler-Ruprecht on some local restaurant wine lists in San Diego and, needless to say, I don't hesitate to order it. Such a great experience, such great wines!

So this town has some historical significance. What if Grandpa Trump had been allowed to stay in Germany? Anyhoo, Saumagen Paradies is the sausage paradise of Kallstadt and is one of the few places to get affordable food in town. Most of the other dining options revolve around wine and the restaurants a little pricey. I think the folks at Saumagen Paradies are friendly and speak a bit of English. The meats are good and they sell canned packaged versions of their deli meats. I recommend the Schwartenmagen.
