For that reason, this review is a personal story. i'm embarrassed to say that the La Grange Animal Hospital was my second choice to care for our family cat, Stryker. I wish they had been my first as our family's cat would have received much better care upfront, been diagnosed accurately sooner, and possibly survived the autoimmune disease that eventually took his life (IMHA). Due to my tragic mistake, I'd advise other pet parents to choose a vet based on care and reputation rather than proximity to your home. When I realized that my original veterinarian was not able to diagnose the condition accurately after two separate visits two weeks apart, despite the Complete Blood Count (CBC) showing an alarming low level of red blood cells, and a very high white blood cell count, I took Stryker to La Grange Animal Hospital. Dr. Sheehan and her staff examined him thoroughly and , unfortunately, this time the CBC came back even more alarming (even lower results on the red and even higher results on the white). Due to her experience with cats, Dr. Sheehan recognized the auto immune disease called IMHA. Even though it was disturbing that Stryker was so sick, I was relieved that someone had a clue what was going on and knew how to treat it. On a course of antibiotics and steroids, over the next few weeks, Stryker seemed to get better and better. In the end though, the effects of IMHA were more than his 14 year-old body could handle. The disease stopped responding to steroids. We took him in to the hospital on an "ER basis" when it became apparent that he was no longer responding to the treatment. They did all they could possibly do to support him and try to get him back to health, however, he passed away that evening in the hospital. When Dr. Sheehan called to give us the news, she was very comforting. She let us know that a 14-year-old cat is the equivalent of a 90 year-old human. We realized then that we had made the right choices and there wasn't much else we could have done. I felt even better that I had at least gotten him to the right place. I wish I had just done it sooner. If you have a beloved family cat, I highly recommend that you put that cat in the care of La Grange Animal Hospital and Dr. Sheehan. She is highly experienced, very thorough, and very direct. She's very serious about what she does and very good at it. It seems to me that most veterinarians are very familiar with dogs and can take good care of them. Cats however, are a bit of a different challenge. They really require care from a veterinarian who understands their unique biology and behavior. I'm sure La Grange Animal Hospital is great for cats AND other pets, but Dr. Sheehan and her staff seem to really understand cats. If you're a cat lover, this is definitely the place for you and your pet(s)! I'd also like to mention that La Grange Animal Hospital took Stryker in on an emergency basis where there is a bit of a larger cost. Since they were unable to save him, they waived that charge out of respect for Stryker's passing. The bill at the end was simply for the supplies and drugs used urgently trying to get him back to better health. It is very clear that La Grange Animal Hospital and Dr. Sheehan are big-hearted! As a sidenote, I noticed that charges for exams, medications, and specialized foods were less costly than my previous vet charged for the same services and products . I believe Dr. Sheehan and her staff do what they do because they love the animals not because they love a big paycheck. As an animal lover, that means more to me and my family than anything else.

This concerned me a bit thinking that the dog may come back with some gruesome scar or something. The scar was very small, they were done earlier than was expected and the staff was very friendly. Dr. Shipman was nice and seems knowledgeable but I got the feeling he was more comfortable with canine patients. When, our cat needed something more than a checkup or claw clipping, I could not have been more disappointed with this clinic. He was sick and we needed expertise which this clinic did not seem to possess. Our cat had stopped eating and was very lethargic (quite unlike him normally). I took him in and we saw another vet in the practice -- I think she was new. She ran a full panel of bloodwork that showed him in good health other than his red and white blood cell counts -- which they ran twice. The red blood cell count was dangerously low while the white cell count was very high. I was given no explanation for why that might happen -- maybe an infection of some sort?He was prescribed an antibiotic and steroids and an appointment two weeks out. He was still in rough shape two weeks later. No other theories and no alert and to the dangerously low red cell count. Finally, I took our cat to another vet, got a diagnosis, full explanation of the disease (IMHA), and a course of treatment. Over the course of the week of new treatment, he slowly showed improvement. The IMHA eventually took his life and we got another few months with him feels my better. I can't help but wonder if we could have gotten him back to full health had I taken him to the other vet earlier. I'm not able to review the clinic's care for dogs or other animals but, if your cat is a member of your family, I would definitely avoid Buckner Animal Clinic.

One of my cats is very difficult to get into a carrier and drive to a vet location. This was great because they came to my home instead. They have a super nice mobile vet van with exam tables and all the equipment. It was very clean and high tech. The doctor and her assistant were so professional and kind. They administered yearly vaccinations and did general exams of both Shadow and Shimmer kitties and it was so easy! So convenient! This is the way to go for pet exams. It was less stressful for both cats...and myself. It seemed safer as well, I have always disliked packing my cats up in the car and risking them getting loose as well as eliminating all the fussing they did in the vehicle. It was perfect just to bundle each cat up separately and walk outside to their vet unit. It was nice not to have any other animals around also, super private with no added drama or stimulation for kitties. I highly recommend! Thanks for the great care and service.

From the moment Freddie came into your care, we felt that he was being treated not just as a patient, but as a cherished member of a family. As Freddie faced the heartbreaking challenge of multi-system failure, your team provided not only exceptional medical care but also comfort, support, and genuine compassion during one of the most difficult times of our lives. We would especially like to recognize the incredible veterinary technicians, Rachael and Michaela. Their loving and gentle care meant so much to us. The tenderness they showed Freddie, along with the kindness they extended to us, brought comfort during an incredibly painful journey. Also, Heather who was benevolent and informative during his stay. We are also deeply grateful to Dr. Stello and Dr. Zimmer for their expertise, dedication, and commitment to Freddie's care. Their professionalism and compassion helped guide us through difficult decisions with confidence and trust. A very special thank you goes to Dr. Zelli, whose beautiful soul and compassionate heart will never be forgotten. The comfort, empathy, and support provided to Freddie my partner and I during his passing was truly extraordinary. Dr. Zelli helped make an unimaginably difficult moment a little more bearable, and for that we will be forever grateful. Freddie was so much more than a pet--he was our beloved last child of 8. He was a very smart, and loyal companion. Knowing that he was surrounded by such caring and compassionate people brought us peace and comfort during his final days. We will forever be grateful to these wonderful doctors, veterinary technicians, and the entire staff for the exceptional care they provided. Thank you for treating Freddie with such dignity, love, and respect. Your kindness will remain in our hearts, and Freddie's memory will always be connected to the compassion you showed him. The third time was at their new expanded location in Buckner. This time they charged me 20% more than before without telling me they had increased their prices. And I paid for a deshedding as always but when I got home I had to spend 30 minutes brushing him to get the shed fur out that they missed. All three times I tipped them 20%. Recently I went to their new website to sign up for an overnight boarding and bath for the same dog. The site did not work. So I emailed them my information and asked for a price including taxes. Their response was to tell me they booked me and asked what times I wanted to drop off and pick up but never gave me a price. I again asked for a price and sent them my times. Their reply was to text message me a bill that was ridiculously high, more than what their website showed it would cost for my size dog and the charge for a plain bath was what they used to charge me for a complete grooming. I replied by text about my disappointments and asked that they cancel my bill. I got no reply so later I emailed them my text message and asked for confirmation that this was cancelled. To this day I have had no reply. Boggles the mind why they would treat a repeat customer like this, especially a generous tipper but there are plenty of groomers around, I won't be going back here.
