    Busted drywall.

Before we arrived, we tried to contact Altido for our check in instructions and got hung up on. I emailed them and there was no reply back. There was no mention of 3 flights of circular stairs or any stairs for that matter getting to the room as I am traveling with my elderly mother in law and my wife. There is no lift available. We messaged Altido about my wife falling out of a chair because there are screws missing out of the bottom that holds the legs onto it. We found another chair like that after looking at all of them after this. I called them numerous times and was hung up on before I could even talk to anyone about this. I also emailed them and no reply back. There is no microwave, but it says that there is one on the amenities list. There is water damage on the ceiling and deteriorated drywall in the hobbit closet with the light switch floating just inside it. We had to buy dish soap, toilet paper or paper towels, etc. The living chair is not usable because the straps pop of and the cushions sink to the floor when you sit in it. The apartment tenants below us asked if we knew how to contact someone for new bedding and got hung on numerous times as well as they had the same contact info as us. I'd advise staying somewhere else for the cost and trouble of staying here!

We couldn't be happier! Literally steps away from the Royal Mile and St. Giles and a 5 min walk from the train station. The reception staff was very kind and helpful. We came in on the overnight sleeper and dropped our bags at reception, returning after lunch to check in. We were guided to our room and walked through the "how tos" of living in these high tech spaces. These apartments are a perfect balance of style, charm, and sophistication. The design of our room is simply outstanding! I just know staying here is going to be the highlight of our trip! This is simply one of the most unique places I've ever stayed! Tips: 1. There are MANY steps to reception (100+) which can be a challenge with bags. If you come around the back (off of the Royal Mile and not through the close), you can avoid the steps but it does take you out of the way to do so. We chose to simply lug our stuff up the steps. 2. Don't expect to check in early as this place is very busy with sell outs nearly every night. Not to worry though there is plenty to do within walking distance, even in the early morning. (Hula Juice Shop is one of them.) 3. There is a washing machine but no dryer in our room. The towel warmer is floor to ceiling so we simply hung wet clothes there to dry. EDIT: the washer IS the dryer - it's an all in one. We are half way through our UK trip and it's so great to do laundry right in our room! Hooray! 4. Location, location, location. Not only is this in the heart of the Royal Mile, it is surrounded by some of the top ranked restaurants on Yelp, including the Devils Advocate, which is so close I could have them hand me a pint through the window!

My fiancé, now husband, and I stayed here for three nights surrounding our wedding in Edinburgh. We're both from the United States and it was our first time in the UK. Old Town Chambers is kind of built down in the ground...maybe? It has an alley way that gets you into the main courtyard where you find the main office. That said, we weren't familiar with the area, so this place a little hard to find. However, when we did find it, it was amazing. BTW, the main alley way is right beside Angels and Bagpipes (a great restaurant I'll review in a bit). The staff was incredibly helpful and polite. They held our bags for us so we could explore the city since we were a bit early for check in. They then delivered them to our room when it was ready so that we didn't have to worry about hauling them up and down the maze of stairs. When we got back to settle in we discovered a cute little apartment waiting for us, complete with a washer/dryer combo so we could do laundry and a full kitchen. The decor was simple, but cozy and homey. The building is located directly across from St. Giles Cathedral and Lothian Chambers on the Royal Mile. There are several restaurants and gift shops nearby as well. It's a very convenient location. The only major complaint is one that may have just been related to our timing in Edinburgh. We were there at Halloween, so there was a lot going on near the hotel. This led to several people that had perhaps had too much to drink hanging out in the walkways outside the building. So, there was a lot of shouting and foot noise at 1am. However, that's not really a fault of Old Town Chambers and I'd still choose to stay there again next time we are in the UK.

Love the location. Love the urban feel of the place. Location is right in the middle of the downtown. No need for your car! The staff at the Old Town Chambers is very helpful. You won't be disappointed! Would be nice to have water bottles and snacks included. It would add an upscale touch.

Wonderful! Our apartment (number 19) had a panoramic view onto the city. We could see Scott monument, and lots of other really old beautiful buildings. I came here in December and so I also had a great view onto the Christmas market. The apartment itself was superb, set in an old building but all seemed to be done up to a stylish modern decor. Being self contained we had a kitchen, dining area, lounge with large flatscreen television and balcony. Our bathroom had an amazing deep bath. There is also free wifi seemingly per room. Mine didn't show up but when I typed in the network name it did connect. The only things I wasn't too happy about was that there was no water provided. The fridge was stocked with some milk but no water. I had to go to the local newsagents to pick some up as they didn't have any bottles even in he reception area. The other thing was their ironing board had wonky legs so I couldn't really iron my shirt because every time I was moving it was tip from side to side - actually a bit dangerous once you put the iron down on the board to move your clothes around. Watch your feet! The bed was huge and so comfortable with Egyptian Cotten. I highly recommend it here and I will certainly be coming back.

Or maybe it was just me and my imagination. I didn't like one painting on the hallway in our room though. It was creepy and bloody red. I didn't like that they don't clean properly too. Also, the bathroom is so far away from the main bedroom. The staffs at the reception were nice though. And, the location of the hotel was good and near the train station. Also, the rooftop is a much visit to see a 360 view of the city.

The Suites are gorgeous - clean and modern and efficient. Our 3-bedroom suite had a spacious living room, dining area overlooking North Bridge, and a small but perfectly serviceable kitchen. The bedrooms are spacious yet cozy, with nice linens & plenty of space for your gear. For 3 people (one couple and one single), the price was right - less than 2 hotel rooms would have cost, and we got so much more. We ate a variety of meals in: breakfast, some lunches, one dinner. Shopped for groceries at the nearby Sainsbury or only slightly farther away Tesco. So nice not to have to run to a restaurant anytime we were hungry. Reception staff is helpful and will guide you to where you need to go. Highly recommended for a stay in Edinburgh if you want the flexibility and comforts of home, while still being centrally located (just 2 blocks from Waverly Street Bridge and the train station). Esp. good for families, as there's way more space than a hotel room or two. Another plus: it's located about 1 minute walk from Calton Hill, a lovely little hillside park well worth a visit for a pleasant walk, interesting monuments, and outstanding views of Edinburgh. Howie's just up the street is a good restaurant for dinner, btw. And head up North Bridge for a wide selection of cheap eats (which we didn't discover until our last day).

StayCity Edinburgh West End Aparthotel was fantastic!!! Check in/out was so easy; the apartment was stunning, spotless, and HUGE (hardwood floors, glass/tile showers, expansive kitchen, balcony); there was a washer and dryer inside our apartment; the apartment was completely soundproof; the location is walking distance to all the best sights/shops; and there is underground parking available (for an extra fee of $15 USD/12 GBP/night). The best part? You get all of that for $150 USD/120 GBP/night! Such a great price for these accommodations. We will definitely stay here again next time we're in Edinburgh. Thanks for a great stay, Staycity!

It's also about a 7 minute walk to Haymarket train station, which is much smaller and less chaotic than Waverly. Having said that, I had a few issues with the suite during our weeklong stay. This serviced apartment has no service. Linens are not changed, garbage not emptied, toilet paper and soap not replaced. The bathroom was too dimly lit to perform basic tasks like put on makeup, shave, or floss. The bathroom sink was too small to wash your face in without flooding the floor. The heated towel rack didn't work and was too small. The shower stall was almost comically impractical. The half-door caused a major flood with every shower. There was no shelf, so all our shower stuff sat on the stall floor. Because the soap was constantly sitting in water, it made the floor slippery, and there were no grab bars in case of a fall. Constantly bending to reach my shower stuff was just annoying for me, but would be a real problem for an older person. Miscellaneous issues: the suite windows would open only a few inches. The smoke alarm went off every time we made toast. I was told that our suite was equipped for four people, but it was cramped and frustrating for just three of us. I had to ask the front desk to remove a few chairs to make some space. I sense that the managers were trying to squeeze more people into the room than reasonable. The space was clearly suited for two people, no more. The beds were six inches apart and took up most of the bedroom. The only clothing storage was an armoir with six hangers. The ironing board and broom were jammed behind the bathroom door. There was no room for our suitcases. Lockers are available downstairs for an extra fee, though it seems kind of cheap to charge a guest extra for the inconvenience of taking an elevator down to a storage room to get their coat. It's a shame because it really is a lovely suite; it just needs to be more sensibly planned out. In closing, I would recommend this place for singles or couples who are physically fit, have no luggage, avoid grooming, don't shower, and hate toast.

Then, I noticed the huge signs for "Cotterell Lighting" and I decided to pop in. I was still really confused and wondered if I was entering some kind of bizarre lighting cult. As soon as I entered I realised that it was indeed a shop, and it sold lighting, all kinds of lighting, in every design you could think of. There were two friendly staff members working who just told me to give them a shout if I needed any help so I decided to browse. I couldn't believe how many different lighting styles they had and if you're looking for a new lampshade or light then you will find exactly what you're looking for here. In addition to lighting they also do a small amount of furniture. I noticed a really cool mirror ball light, a lampshade on a stand that was designed to look like a fish bone and a huge mirror that I like instantly as it made me look better than I actually do. I have to admit, it was a little odd walking around an old church and it was pretty much intact apart from the missing pews. When I looked up I could see that the upper seating of the church was still there and if that area was still accessible you could have taken a seat and looked down at the now lighting shop. The creaking floor boards were still there as were the stained glass window and painted high ceiling. It seems a waste that such a beautiful church is now just a shop and even stranger that it hasn't been disguised as a shop. I'd recommend visiting under the guise that you need a new lightbulb, as it really is an experience.
