My husband and I are new-ish to the area, and wanted to try something new. He had purchased a compound bow before we moved to Maine, with the express purpose of bow hunting. I'm the kind of gal who is much more comfortable getting a pedicure. That being said, I wanted to try archery so I could have more time with my sweetie. We went to the big box sports store and I bought a sweet purple and pink bow, and got some arrows. The young man working there put some different tips on the arrows, and away we went. When we got home, we saw that the glue on the arrow tip was visible and that could effect how they fly. We decided that we would try someone local to get some help, because I was tired of putting my arrows in the woods, the ground, anywhere other than the target.
When we walked in, the owner saw that we bought the bow elsewhere and was so friendly and helpful with us both. He gave us pointers, made sure that the bow fit us (both draw weight and length), and that we were using the correct arrows. We have purchased sights and he made sure that they were adjusted correctly for various lengths. He never made me feel out of place, and went to great lengths to not be condescending or do any mansplaining.
