It is always pretty busy when I go and the staff are lovely and chatty and full of information about contents of the pasties and pies. I think calling it a coffee shop is taking the mick slightly, it is a greasy spoon through and through. The food is very tasty, very unhealthy and very reasonably priced. The surroundings are unpretentious, it is what it is. I've enjoyed a few peaceful mugs of tea's and fry ups here, and it's well worth it if you like that kind of thing. The staff are friendly-ish, it is completely family run so always the same people in there (I think it is mainly a father and daughter thing) and sometimes they have their off days. I called the manager over and she dismissed it as a burnt piece of potato. After acknowledging that it wasn't a piece of potato, we filed an incident report with the head office. I had to almost shout at them to remove the food from the carvery, they didn't want to do it!! THAT'S NUTS!!! 2 days later, the head office called and asked us to explain the situation. My partner told them how she doesn't want to visit again and had lost trust in eating out. Their response: Here's some coupons to use at our restaurant. What a joke I haven't received any calls back since this and its been a number of days now. I don't think anybody really cares. You know, they used to feed glass to people to off them. Bright and inviting from the outside, Peppercorns seemed like a good choice, a decent sized cafe with a variety of different types of seating from comfortable looking sofas in the window, to more conventional table and chairs further back. Lots of variety on the menu, but we had just missed the last orders for the breakfast type food, which ends at 11.30am. Nevertheless a great variety of other dishes on offer for lunch, from sandwiches, rolls and paninis to salads and jacket potatoes. We opted for the Club Sandwich, which came on toasted granary bread, absolutely delicious, the chicken and bacon were packed with flavour, and the lettuce and tomato, so fresh; the fresh coleslaw on the side, was a good accompaniment too. Each sandwich is made to order and it showed, best Club Sandwich I've had in a long time. The accompanying cappuccino and americano, were also good, strong and flavoursome without being too bitter. You order and pay at the front of the cafe, and I was almost tempted into the moreish looking cakes next to the counter like home made Rocky Road and Chocolate Brownies.
