The entrance is very deceptive with only about 6 foot of frontage onto the main road making the place look tiny from the outside. However the door opens onto the bar area which is very traditional and well stocked with a real coal fire. This area can be quite busy since the bar is very popular with regulars. Food is served to the rear of the bar with a seperate dining room as well. I have eat in The Ship many many times and I have never been disppointed. The chef, Pat, cooks all the food from scratch so he knows all the ingredients, excellent for anyone in your party with a food intolerance. The prices are very reasonable with many "bar bowl" deals on the go as well. The range of drinks on offer is as large and comprehensive as you would find in any City bar but with small town prices. Music is played from the bar "sound system" with live entertainment on offer a few evenings a month at weekends. There is also Sunday quiz night, too hard for me. Because of the building layout you may not be as detached from patrons enjoying a drink when you are dining as you may like. Even when in the dining room "smokers" often walk past on their way to the external smoking area. I only felt the need to mention this so as to keep the whole review as objective as possible. The Ship attracts a mature clientelle since there isn't a pool table or juke box therefore unacceptable behaviour or language is rarely seen or heard. Families are very welcome. I have eat in many bars and restaurants around the country at all price brackets and this place is still one of my faves. Excellent food, beer and value for money.

I feel like I've kinda spoilt the surprise now, so if you're bringing someone, don't tell them and let them experience the confusion I felt. Anyway, the staff were very welcoming and we sat down to choose our food. My Sister & I went for the 2 course £12 option (at time of writing). We shared starters of haddock fishcake in a crispy batter & fried camembert with cranberry. For the main, Sis had haddock (again) in a cream & chive sauce and I enjoyed steak pie & chips. Niece and nephew both went for a starter as a main and dessert combo. Cullen skink with crusty bread followed by sticky toffee pudding. Everyone delighted with the food and all in less than £50 including drinks. Will no doubt be back sometime.

Very easy to find in the Middle of of Kinghorn High Street, immediatley adjacent the the towns only Zebra crossing. A welcoming traditional "pub", always real ales on the go as well as a full range of beers, lagers, malts and blended whiskies, plus any other spirit that may take your fancy. The fuit machine and pool table is the main entertainment in the bar with most sports events shown on the many screens, 1 of very few places where rivals can watch the game together and enjoy the craic.....Be careful on the pool table though, the standard of play is exceptionely high for a small seaside town. Daily newspapers are always available should you just want a quiet pint and a read. Food on offer is the usual mix of bar snacks. Drop in next time your passing, you wont be disppointed.

This is a little quiet and quaint pub by week but a busy bustling high street pub by the weekends…read more It has a lot going for it whether you want to enjoy a quiet pint through the week or catch a football game on their big Plasma TV`s, or perhaps you are looking for a busy atmospheric drinking place to take in some good music and mingle with good crowds at the weekends. whatever you are looking for in a pub the Penny farthing on Kirkcaldy`s high street ahs it in abundance. Unlike most high street pubs the Penny farthing does not use its location to hike it`s prices up and keeps them not at the inexpensive but at a decent mid range. The penny farthing has a very good staff who will serve you with a smile as well as stopping for a chat even when the pub is very busy they always find the time to smile or chat, probably because unlike many of the pubs close by they actually employ enough staff! A real pub with a great atmosphere and it also has its own enclosed smoking area out the back with very nice and comfortable seating, tables and heating for those chilly Kirkcaldy nights. Excellent bar menu everything from Fish and chips to burgers as well as mac & cheese. Very fair price and everything tasted outstanding. The place is extremely clean and very well kept. They have videos playing on multiple screens of TVs. Also a couple of electronica pub games. And if you need they also have coffee. Wish this place was closer to the states. You have to stop in and say hello and try and paint.
