Just down the street from "Skeldale House", the Three Tuns was supposed to be one of Alf Wights…read morelocal pubs, and I can see why. The people were great, that is, they were genuine, and it felt like a place where I would also find myself dropping in regularly. The food was good, the beer was good, and Thirsk is a lovey place to visit! I do hope to return!

Came here just after 11pm on a Saturday night, looking for a room for the night to break up the…read morejourney as we were travelling from Scotland to Essex. Asked at the bar, and a manager quickly joined us and took us to his office despite the late hour. I explained our situation, and was quickly assigned a room at the top of the stairs. Access to floors and rooms is via a key card. The double room was on the small side, but was a family room, so had an adjoining, smaller room with twin bed, lots of teas, coffees, etc. and a kettle plus some complimentary bottles of water. Room was perfectly adequate and looked out onto the picturesque square in front of the hotel. Shower stall was small, but all the rooms we stayed in in the UK were small with a small shower stall (by US standards). Tasty, hearty, "Full English" fried breakfast with unlimited refills on the tea and coffee (not common in the UK). There were also a good number of lighter breakfast options available. The bar and restaurant areas were welcoming and cosy. James Herriot house and veterinary practice museum from "All Creatures Great and Small" books, film and TV series, is just 400 yards from this hotel, and we'll worth a visit if you're a fan
