This was a very good and educational museum. They have a lot of information about the island --…read morefrom before the Europeans descended until almost the present day. Included are the slave history and the creation of the Jekyll Island Club and its influence. Some of the nicer aspects are the touch and feel exhibits. And the interactive photo op where you can take pictures of yourself in various old time outfits. You will definitely learn something about the area and the island by coming here. The exhibits are done in chronological order. And they highlight the history and unique happenings on the island. It's a good starting point for those new to visiting Jekyll Island. Plus it is the location for the start of the trolley tour. You can purchase a ticket for just the museum or in combination with the trolley tour. We purchased our tickets on line which added a small service fee, but we figured this was safer as the island hosts many large conventions and sometimes the tours and the museum are quite busy. You can browse the museum before or after the trolley tour, if you take it. The day we came it had been pouring rain, so we were unable to take the trolley tour at our originally scheduled time. So we spent the first hour (waiting for the rain to end) leisurely viewing all the exhibits. In addition, there is a very nice gift shop attached to the museum. And it's worth a visit in itself.

The vendor I bought from told me that it was free that day to go into the museum and Gardens so my family and I decided to look at the beautiful garden to welcome spring. Sadly, we didn't have time to explore the inside of the museum, but that will be for next time. The garden is absolutely stunning and breathtaking with a plethora of colors and the river in the back it's just so pretty. I loved how you could just walk around and see the different parts of the garden and then stand by the river as well. They had super unique flowers. I especially loved the ones that looked like little red lanterns and I loved all the beautiful trees. I was so happy to come here and I loved that they had a little plant market that drew you in to come and actually check out the garden. I can't wait to go back and explore the museum and make a whole day out of it. You definitely need to add this to your list if you haven't gone yet.

I stopped by Saturday around 12p and parking was pretty much non existent due to the Farmer's Market nearby. I highly suggest the earlier you get to the museum the better. I did find parking at the River and Post lot. This museum is known for it's beautiful garden and that was the first thing I hit. Now since it was a lovely day, there were a lot of people here visiting. I was amazed by the beautiful courtyard but even more breathtaking garden. I see why this is a hot spot for wedding/engagement photos. The garden has the backdrop of the St. John's River and the beauty of the botanical garden is so peaceful. I would've hung out a bit longer if it was not so hot outside. Inside, there are some great exhibits on display like the feature Art in Bloom, Norman Studios (black movie posters collection) Italian to Egyptian art and artifacts, to the Tudor Room. This room is a chance to learn more about the Cummer family and their art collection. The museum also has a cafe and offer a children's learning area. I look forward to coming back for an event day at the museum but I highly recommend stopping by to this museum.

Honestly, I visited since I had some time to kill and they participate in the Bank of America Museums of Us program, which provides complimentary admission to cardholders the first full weekend of every month. While I do like art museums, modern art is generally not my cup of tea despite my many attempts to keep an open mind about it over the years. For a college/learning institution-based museum, it's pretty middle of the rung in its offerings. You can easily cover all the galleries within 10 minutes to an hour depending on your level of interest. They have a section of bells, which I found very unique. All of the staff I encountered throughout the museum were friendly, and the ones in the bell section were happy to ring bells upon request so guests can hear the resonance. While I wasn't overly impressed with the modern art on display, I did enjoy my short visit, and would recommend the SCAD Museum as a rainy day activity in Savannah to those who appreciate smaller museums focusing on modern art.

Take exit 49 at Darien, Georgia off of I-95 and you'll be at this place in a matter of minutes. Built by the British in 1721, this fort stands as the oldest English fort on Georgia's coast. It was originally constructed to protect the southernmost part of the British colonies from Spanish forces and Native tribes. Though it faced many challenges, including disease and harsh weather, it became a symbol of determination and survival. Walking through Fort King George today feels like stepping back into time. The reconstructed fort gives you a glimpse into what life was like for the soldiers stationed here. You can explore the blockhouse, barracks, and guardhouse, which are exact replicas of the original structures built nearly 300 years ago. Climb to the top of the blockhouse, and you'll be greeted with sweeping views of the river and marshland, a reminder of why this spot was so strategic. But this site isn't just about military history. It's also a window into the cultures that shaped the area. The nearby museum shares the stories of the Guale tribe, who lived along the river long before the fort was built. You'll also learn about the Scottish Highlanders who later settled in the area and gave Darien its unique identity. What makes Fort King George so special is how it blends history with nature. I was pleased to learn that they were as far south as Darien at the same time. This was their southernmost outpost and the fort was built to help protect the area from the Spanish, who had their own colonies in the new world and were in Florida. The fort and battlements have been reconstructed and offer a great opportunity to see what life would have been like here in the 1700s. In addition to the grounds and the fort structures, there is a cemetery. None of the soldiers who died here was a result of battle, instead it was due to dysentery and malaria. Mosquitoes were quite strong back then and remain so today as I got pretty well attacked by them when outdoors. Indoors is a museum with artifacts and displays angled for school age learnings about life in the 1700s and what it would be like as a soldier in the fort at the time. Whoa, I was not prepared for how amazing this place was!…read more When we first arrived I thought it would be just kind of a silly tourist trap thing, but boy was I wrong! It is a very large collection of everything spooky, odd and strange! There are entire rooms focused on serial killers, such as Gacy, HH Holmes and Richard Ramirez. We were in there for a very long time and learned so much from the women running the tour. There was even a guy in our group who had been childhood friends with one of Gacy's victims, which was incredibly surreal and really hit home how real all of this was, and not just entertainment. They also have, or are going to have, another location in Chicago which is very exciting and I would definitely seek that out next time I am there. All in all a 10/10 experience.

Their regular price is $25 OR $50 for a two day pass, tshirt, tote (or a pin), and sticker. Absolutely great deal if you're wanting some merch. Very spooky, eerie, and overall an interesting time!
