There was also food on (served 7-9) which included Sirloin steak and chips (Tuesday) for just £4, and curry on Wednesday for just £3.50! Coincidentally, King Robert led a successful and brutal battle against a much larger English army exactly 700 years ago last month. As an Englishman myself, thankfully I'm now made very welcome in the pub that bears his name. The aspect of this pub I find most attractive is the fact that it is an independently owned micro brewery. They have an excellent selection of their own de Brus beers, lagers & ciders. In addition there is a large offering of excellent vodkas, gins, whiskeys & wine etc. All in all, this is a classy establishment offering something quite different in pleasant surroundings. If you see me at the bar, I'll have a Nut Brown Ale, thanks!

With an open mind though we ordered drinks, there is a selection of five 'home-made' beers from the micro-brewery which were acceptable but not stunning and a pretty good selection of wines. The venue is split into three areas, the main bar and two smaller dining areas off the entrance hall. We were here for dinner but there were no places in the dining areas so took a table by the window which has an unimpressive vista onto the back of neighbouring offices and a car park. As the night drew in though the light from the window disappeared and the actual venue lighting is pretty poor so when the food does arrive it's pretty difficult to see anything! Getting food was quite problematic, with the waiting staff being pretty slow but eventually when it was ordered you could tell the chef knew what they were doing. The food quality was very good and the portion sizes were just about right. We were here on a Friday evening and by the time our mains were arriving the noise levels in the bar area was getting quite restrictive to being able to speak to the person next to you. I feel like this is highly critical review and maybe on a quiet afternoon when its not too busy it may be a great experience but on this particular evening it just didn't do it for me.

The one at The Watering Hole is surprisingly spacious and had a good mix of people of all ages & families. I enjoyed a refreshing, cool pear cider and my nephew, a soft drink. It was a very pleasant way to pass an hour or so. Planning to make the most of whatever sunshine we can enjoy for the remainder of the summer and will return.

How can you promote your no glass policy in smoking area when you have no back up for people's…read moreglasses i.e the type most nightclubs use to cover up the glasses so nothing can be added to peoples drinks you have a shelf which is so bad .I agree glass can be dangerous but look around your establishment inside people just throw the glasses or bottles on the floor but god forbid you go for a ciggie with a drink and you are faced with a barring.Solution plastic glasses or respect us smokers we proba bly make up 80percent of your clientele and also sorry but we spend ages on our hair etc and you have one wee covering but your door stewards want to push us down to the bottom where there is no protection.Rant over sorry not a good experience :-(

It was pretty quiet for a Saturday night when I visited, but the music was thrashing nonetheless. The seating arrangement is a bit odd (erm was that not meant to be the dancefloor), but it looks like this could be a very fun place once it starts to pull in the punters. With free entry and a 2am licence its a no brainer if you need more hard liquor after midnight.

Inside, the hotel has a cosy, smallish bar which is full of character. The bar was quite busy when I was in and was full of people chatting away. The bar serves your typical drinks and also the traditional Scottish lagers and ale's. On top of that the bar also serves good hearty pub food. The menu is quite traditional and also provides a set menu for pensioners as well! Food can be ordered to quite late on in the evening. The food comes in generous portions and certainly does the job when it comes to filling you up! Defiantly one of the better bars in the centre of town, Burgh Arms also is a great place for a bite for lunch.
