The building is out of this world. It's a grand affair and dates back to the mid to late nineteenth century. You'll be impressed as soon as you see it from the outside. That's always a good start. Once you're in, it doesn't disappoint. I'm in love with the huge roaring real fire and could quite happily stay there for hours on end. The service is fantastic too and it's a great atmosphere in a beautiful building. As for the food, well it's good old decent stuff and the price is more than reasonable. I wouldn't say it's out of this world, unlike the location, but that's mainly because it belongs to a chain. You've got real ales to sink into as well and a fab wine list. You know I love my wine and this doesn't disappoint. All in all this is one pub that you really must get to. Is that clear enough for you. Brilliant.

That was a good few years ago though. However, THIS time... the log fire was perfect to warm Ma W's bones and the whole atmosphere was lovely. I've knocked a star off because their food is quite pricey for pub dinners and when i asked whether their apple was homemade, a resounding "no" was heard... is any of it not shop bought? "ummm.... the crumble". ok. i'll have that. It was ok. mine is better. It's worth looking on their website as they do have offers 241s etc and I joined their mailing list and got a free glass of wine ahem 10minutemail.com ahem

Having been back once again to a warm reception, great beer selection and friendly locals I feel…read morethe need to reinstate my love for this fantastic pub. There's not much more to add to what's already been declared, except that even on a Saturday night this is the loveliest place you hope to grab a pint. No louts, no fancy dress Otley runners, no hassle - just a fabulous place in which to consume your favourite tipples. If you need advice on what to sup, these guys are expert in here, even the odd person propping up the bar might chime in. Love it. Yet again, props to the wonderful bar staff who always patiently allow me to finish my beer at almost 11.30pm - it's always appreciated. Got to check out their Monday quiz sometime, I'm sure it'll be one of the best around!

To be fair, on first glance, it does look to be more of a cafe than a classy wine bar, with its simple exterior and location amongst run-of-the-mill shops such as Wilkinsons and Sainsbury's. Once you realise it's actually a watering hole and go in, however, you are rewarded - music plays quietly, old connoisseurs and occasionally wealthy students alike sample the various continental beers (the best of which is Erdinger) and wines, a few lone readers and writers sit about with papers or notebooks, and a couple play one of the many free board games on offer. Arcadia is different from anywhere else in Headingley in terms of it's atmosphere, it's booze, and what it offers. However, it's rates are similar to some places in Headingley - the pricey ones.

So there we were driving around on Sunday looking for somewhere to have "Fathers day" lunch…read more Looking for the usual 2 for 1 or all you can eat for a fiver deals (I'm a bloke from Yorkshire, therefore I'm tight) but to no avail....... then I just remembered this place from my youth and headed over and BINGO! Big chalk board outside said Fathers day lunch £7.50, I conned the wife into going halves (she was fed up of driving round by then) so we went in. We were greeted by friendly bar staff and a more restaurant approach but in a rural pub setting which was a bit odd but good, grabbed a couple of pints of rancid old scrotum or some other cask ale and parked at the table which the waitress helpfully showed us to. The menu had a choice of 4 meals, 5 starters and plenty of puddings (desserts if you're from that London) which were all specials for the day. I chose a steak and ale pie with new spuds etc and the wife a beef dinner with all the trimmings....... service took around 10 minutes so I bought more "Armpit sweat" or "Old bags eyeball juice" or some other beer of some strange name. Believe me when I say it was worth the driving around and having to drink beer with twigs in (I don't have a beard or corduroys or a tank top so I prefer my beer twig free) as I can honestly say it was a genuinely home made pie, in a dish with just a crust on top and filled with half a cow and some fungus pieces (mushrooms of the non magic variety) all swimming in gravy that I believe was made from the tears of an angel. The vegetables were a plenty and in bowls to share between us which gets me on to the wifes choice of roast beef dinner, she said it was the best beef she's ever had and believe me when I say she's had a lot of meat in her lifetime ;) It was melt in the mouth and enough to leave her with a smile on her face and the yorkshire pudding (no that's not the wifes nickname) was fresh made and delicious. So next time you're in the Drig area or even not but want a bally good nosh (sorry I just put my Tim Nice But Dim head on) put BD11 1LJ into your Satnav, you will not be dissapointed.

WOW, were we lucky? This is a nice pub with nice staff but doesn't look anything special. However, the food was just wonderful! Fresh veg, proper home made yorkshire pud and real puddings too. This is only a small bar which is on two floors but the shape and design of it is very unique and different - from the entrance at the back there are about 6 steps up to the first floor. On the entrance floor there is space for tables but they arent always out to be used. Then on the main floor there is the bar and a few tables - this is nice and snug and gets cosy on a normal night but very packed on a weekend or friday night which are the busy promotion nights where they have cocktails and beers and shots on special offer. Then you go up some more stairs to the upper floor which also has a small bar and has tall high tables and stools - the lighting is blue up here and gives it a really classy feel to it. The toilets are also based on the top floor and these get very busy and you need to be prepared to wait for long stretches to use them. They do food during the day which is the normal pub grub type but, they dont do many special offers on their food whch takes away some of their custom considering other bars nearby do 2 for 1s and that The food is nice and tasty and very filling but it a bit on the dear side. The service is very good here and the staff are lovely and polite but seem to change quite often - mainly students seem to work the bar.

The outdoor area has a few tables out the front, next to the busy road, but it at least has somewhere to sit and sup out in this warm weather. The bar inside seems decent, and cosy for when it gets a bit more wintery, but I didn't get to see the whole of it as it was a quick pint before moving on. As for the range, it appeared there was a good selection of ale, for those who like cask, and a mixed range of other lagers and soft drinks for those who don't. Standard spirits, if memory recalls. The thing that put me off was the service. It wasn't rude, per se, but I noticed that despite having waited before several of the local bar flies, I was still last to be served. The chap was nice enough, but having worked in a bar before, I considered it good etiquette to serve in order of arrival. It was disappointing, as the rest of the experience was rather pleasant. Perhaps an off night, so as I say, a return may be in order.

It looks like a proper Yorkshire watering hole from the outside, with nothing fancy or gimmicky on show to detract from the old stonewall charms. Inside, you'll find a very pubbish-pub if you know what I mean. If you don't, I'll try and explain. Nowadays, pubs are either closing or being bought up by chains, leaving little chance for uniqueness or character. The Fleece, however, has its own distinctive charms (including a pleasing selection of real ales) and it's the sort of place that you imagine hasn't changed in half a century. Commendable.

If you'd gone in a couple of years ago on a Friday night, you would have found a bustling lively lounge full of young professionals and people who prefer to stay in Horsforth rather than venture to the town centre enjoying themselves in the company of a wide selection of booze and some nice music. Go in tonight, however, and it's likely to be a rather empty place with a flat atmosphere and some grumpy bar staff. This is partly due to the adjacent Kobe's popularity, but more to do with the fact that this dog has, unfortunately, had its day.

Well as a name goes I'm not too keen on anywhere that has to call themselves a style bar. However, I will make an exception in this case. Now let's get down to business. Booze! This is after all why I frequent the majority of places in my life. Maybe not the doctors or gym though! Well no grumbles on this front. If you want cocktails, go forth and feel the love. There are quite simply loads of them for you to work your way through. Classics such as a Bloody Mary and Daiquiris right along to the baby cocktails and creamy concoctions. Plus the price isn't going to scare you off too. Very reasonable they are but I guess that's what you get for daring to explore outside the heart of the city. Finally, the bistro serves up some good grub too so you have something to line that stomach before a night of over indulgence.
