I was seen by Mr Veer and his assistant for a check up last week and can can honestly say they treated very well, dealt with my nervous disposition excellently - even my gagging at the mouth xray!. I am sat here with a numb mouth having just had my first ever filling - which I had been dreading - and again the team there were friendly, and treated me really well in carrying out the flling and making sure I was ok after. The dental assistant even helped crank up the volume on my ipod to hide the noise of the drilling! I would recommend Tutbury Dental practice in Tutbury and particularly Mr Veer without question.

I've since had a few dentists but in June 2009 with a new dental insurance plan returned to Julian. His surgery is really rather inconvenient to get to if you don't live in the moorlands. It takes me about 40 minutes to get here from either Stafford where I work, or Newcastle where I live. His prices are undoubtedly high for dentistry but he is thorough in his work, I've never had a problem and I'm sure I've never paid for unecessary work. In fact Julian is BBC Radio Stokes on air dentist, so that should be an indicator of how good he is with all his patients.

He is a lovely dentist to having and is very friendly. If you have a problem you know you can trust him to help or sort it out for you. Dental nurses are very patient and do best to put children at ease. Has small car park at side. Small range of toys and books in waiting area to keep kids occupied. Send reminder before appointment due and try to call on day of appointment. As its an NHS dentist they do seem reluctant to do anything aside from standard NHS work. Don't accept credit cards - so you must pay in cash or cheque. Open on monday evenings, so don't need to take kids out of school.

The decor is light and airy, as you walk in you are warmly greeted by one of the reception staff. There is a tv and a small play area for toddlers. Once in the consulting room Dr Gabriel really puts you at ease, she is wonderful with the kids too. There is limited patient car parking place outside the building but plenty of off road spaces locally. The 997 and 28 buses stop just opposite.

I was prompted to go because of some pain that told me something really bad could be coming. The office itself is rather like a sprawling modern house. I think that there are as many as 8 dentists practicing there (see pic), but I only met one, Jag, who was amazing. As it turns out I had actual 'procedure' today - just exploration and X-rays. Trust me I have many probing dentists elsewhere (in the US mainly) and pain always follows but Jag was SUPER cautious and all was without any screeches from me. We determined that everything was structurally sound and the pain was either sinus related or a nerve playing up under an existing crown. For today we left it at that, take an anti-biotic for a week and then re-examine - most likely to the endodontist for me to drill through the crown and do a root canal (hopefully painless!) and save the cost and hassle of having new crown made. 5 stars so far!! Chris has now fitted a splint which involved 2 lengthy consultations and a couple of reviews. Throughout my treatment, the dentists have been courteous, kind and helpful, taking time to explain and explore options. All the support staff are charming and the practice building is comfortable and inviting. I can't praise (or recommend my dentist, Geoff Sterland - Distinctive Dentistry) highly enough,…read morethis gentleman is a genius and so clever. A few months ago I had a second bridge crown fitted because of a terrible accident last year left me devastated - a bad fall that took all of a previous perfect bridge crown Geoff did for me was ruined! The fall meant that another bridge would have to be restructured differently because of damage to my other teeth. I never thought it would be possible to get the result I have today, thank you thank you Geoff. All through the treatment I never felt any pain or discomfort, he is such a brilliant dentist in fact all of his team and all the staff are lovely, they not only treat you with the greatest respect, they are so attentive and make you feel important and comfortable, they actually explain and talk you through the 'action plan' .... I don't normally do reviews (though I read them) but I feel so lucky to have found such a good dentist which I thoroughly recommend. I have Denplan Insurance cover which helped with my second bridge. Anyone looking for some good dental work - especially if nervous as I was, I would say go to DISTINCTIVE DENTISTRY, they actually do really care about their patients.
