The best suggestion we were given is to start on the 3rd floor an make our way down. The staff on hand were friendly and readily available to answer any of your questions. You can make a reservation for lunch at the Cafe, which is located on the lower level of what was once a pool.

The stories of about 20 pirates are shown throughout the museum. If you go through the museum, taking your time, it takes about an hour. For that, I think the price for kids ($9.99 if purchased from the website) is reasonable. However the adult price ($18.99 online) is too much. If you are in St. Augustine, especially on a hot or rainy day, it is worth an hour of your time.

Once inside, we were greeted by staff who gave us a quick safety briefing. Inside the museum, you'll find a lot of cool, unique devices--some I'd never heard of. The tour includes an audio guide that you can start and stop as needed. Each stop has a plaque describing the device and the history of its use. Some of the displays can be interacted with if they have a sign allowing it. There are many wax figures posed in the devices, which are very cool to see. If you take your time, the whole visit takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. At the end there's a gift shop, and off to the side is a micro/mini art display that's also very cool. Tickets are around $23 per adult. I would caution that this museum may not be suitable for all ages. I highly recommend this stop.

The museum is quite pricey for what it was. It was over $50 for two people to walk through for about an hour. Though I did learn about some methods of torture, I had already known about 90% of what was shown, so I didn't feel like my money was well spent. However, if you're morbidly curious about some twisted history, this is an informative museum. You scan a QR code to listen to each display with stories of people's experiences. It's a heavy museum for sure. If the museum was cheaper, I'd definitely say it's worth a visit. However, it does come off that it looks like a cheap haunted house at times (without the jump scares, of course). It's fine for one visit and we did enjoy walking through. The staff here were very helpful, welcoming, and friendly.
