I've used this library many a time for very serious business. It's wonderful! Especially after they've done the vast improvements on the aesthetics and the children's area especially. There's a wall of bubbles first off. The children's area is a veritable amusement park of interaction and intrigue. They have various electronic equipment and little hidey holes for tiny humans to sit and read and interact with other tiny humans. I wouldn't say the book selection is out of this world, but they have a lot. I mostly use the printing service, which they have many computers. I'll say about that though, the printing needs to be more streamlined and simple. It's terribly complicated sometimes to figure out how to send the data to the printers, and I'm sure the staff would say something obnoxious like just use your phone number as the passcode. Sure. I particularly love the 3D printing room and the massive printer they have to print large print items. I think they charge six bucks for the large prints and the 3D printing is free! They have many conference rooms, and an entire area dedicated to teenage video game playing. The outdoor playground will not overrun by packs of wild children is really well designed and useful. Overall, this is a great library. One of the best ones in the city I would say. Have a stop on in. If you need a temporary card as well for printing or whatnot, they will just give you a free temporary code, so that's nice. Great place to meet people too. read more

I tried out this library for the first time today. What a wonderful, Modern, fun, and interesting library! The kids area is perfect and fun for small children. They have a great selection of books and play items. I love all the places to enjoy reading a book throughout the whole library and the huge wall fireplace and all the windows for natural sunlight. I was glad to see a bookstore and also a coffee shop with snacks available and lunch items. Will definitely go back! The staff was also nice that I interacted with. read more

We visited public library to meet up some healthcare workers will basically we were trying to find a conference room where we can have a private conversation and we had a bunch of friends who also wanted to take advantage of the place to have their kids play around and also have their teenager kids spend time reading some interesting books. Guess what this place has it all there's a kids area where they can play outdoors if the weather permits and there is an amazing collection of books, Internet, and conference room for private conversations if you have something to talk about with a business related or something more private, this place is extremely neat well organized and has an amazing ambience. There's also a mini coffee bar inside where you can buy beverages there is Internet for a very cheap price. If people are looking for any of these options from what I've mentioned, you deserve to visit this place. read more

I only came in here to get something to eat after my doctor's appointment but wow! I wasn't expecting there to be this many people in here. I love the environment in this library and the workers are very nice. There is also a nice little bookstore to look through as well that I liked. I will definitely visit here again next time I'm in the area. read more

Olathe Indian Creek library has something to offer for almost anyone! You can grab a snack or coffee from the cafe, check out the new releases and video games, buy a new-to-you book from the bookshop, then relax and read while your kids play in the large play area or your teen hangs out in the teen reading or gaming space. The floor plan is mostly open, which makes it easy to navigate. There are several meeting rooms and chairs and tables scattered throughout, if you enjoy sitting and browsing periodicals or potential books to check out. There is a maker space that looks amazing, but I have not personally used it. The play area has so many options-buildings to play in, toys, and a light wall. I have purchased so many books for my classroom library in the book shop, most are $2 or less! It feels welcoming, even though it is a fairly new building. Every employee we have encountered has been kind and helpful. My only suggestion is to be prepared for inconsistent answers to questions about specific programs. (My personal experience is that I have asked about or tried to use the toddler program "1000 books before kindergarten" and had multiple conflicting responses or directions about what to do next. Not a big deal but confusing and somewhat inconvenient) However, we do love that they offer these types of programs. Be sure to check the Olathe Library website for information too, as it doesn't always align with other Johnson County branches (For example, when to pick up summer reading books. Lenexa and Central Resource OP Library had them available in June. Olathe employee said "wait until you get an email from us." The other fantastic feature of the library is the inclusive playground outside. It can get pretty crowded, but has many different features and a covered area with tables and a drinking fountain too! read more

If I could live here, I would! This is a phenomenal space to study, read, create (hello, makerspace!) or just be. If you plan on using the makerspace, be sure you have some prior knowledge to utilizing the machinery. I wish they held monthly classes on the items available; would be such a huge help. See: the bubble wall, gaming room, study spaces. Ask to view the recording studio - STATE OF THE ART STUFF! And all of this is free (thanks to all those taxes we pay). read more

Amazing library. Super clean and spacious. The employees are also very kind. Depending on the time of the day, there can be a lot of people so the amount of available spots can get low, but fortunately it never gets too loud. They also provide different services such as a gaming room for kids, 3-D printing, group study rooms, and many more! read more

The older employees seem to be less helpful than the young ones. Many times when asking about putting a book on hold or other procedural questions the older employees will refer you to another person, or simply say they aren't sure. Younger employees at least try and figure it out with you. The printers are nice to use, and they're cheaper than using FedEx or UPS to print things for you, but it has been broken for about a month now and they don't bother to tell you that you can use the front desk printer. I love to study here, but if you come here I would HIGHLY suggest bringing some noise cancelling headphones of some sort. Their children's section is really big, and there are kids here all the time. Kids will be kids, and I don't have kids so no judgement here, but it can get quite noisy so come prepared. From the time the library opens to around 1 pm it's less busy and easier to find a table to study, I'm old school so a simple chair and table is what I like (I'm not a fan of studying on the coffee tables or other furniture). read more

The Indian Creek public library in Olathe has an amazing maker space. I've known about it for awhile, but had been doing most of my stuff at home. However, a recent project made me reach out to them. I've been trying to model a trim ring for my deck. While I've successfully done so for the lower ring, the upper ring is much more complex: it looks a bit like a bread slice. I had been working in Fusion 360 and was close, but I wasn't satisfied. I checked the website for the library, and no 3D scanner was mentioned. My use would be far too light to get one for myself, even the cheapest. I called them, just on the off chance they might have one. First, I have to say that these people were incredibly helpful and kind. They had just gotten a 3D scanner, but wasn't using it with the public very much yet until they fully understood it themselves. Since my part was small, they were willing to scan it and see how it went. I brought it in, and they set it up. What a scanner! It was 2022 EinScan Pro HD - about an $8,000 scanner. It had an automated turntable. After a few tries, everything was hooked up and they scanned it. They placed the part on its back, on its front, then on its side. The software interpolated all the views and created an extremely detailed model, down to the injection dimples in the plastic. While I was there, the folks working there, as well as other people using the space were friendly, interesting AND interested, and we shared tips and lessons learned. All were clearly enthusiasts and enjoyed working through the projects. Then we exported the file to an STL file and put it on a flash drive. I went home and pulled it in, but the file was damaged. I called them back and asked them if they still had the file. The person serving the maker space went to find the laptop and see if the file was still there (that alone impressed me). It wasn't there, so I figured I'd go back and scan again this weekend. About 10 minutes later she called me back - she had kept looking and found the file! Then she offered to email it to me. It was too big for email, so she put it on a Google drive and emailed me the link. That file was terrific. It's not often you get people that are clearly glad to help, that you truly feel are on your side, and are willing to go the extra mile. Frankly, while the folks at the library are very nice and helpful, I wasn't expecting that incredible level of kindness and above-and-beyond support. I was wow'ed, and I plan to go back there, more for the advice and expertise of the others doing the same thing. I may want to try their resin printers as well. The library has expanded its maker space since I was last there. Besides at least a half-dozen 3D FDM printers, they have a couple of resin printers, and they only charge 15 cents an ounce of use. They allow mail-in projects that they put on the printer for you, and you can then pick up the print. They also have a CNC machine, laser engraver, and much more for other enthusiasts, such as sewing, die-cutting, etc. I just thought I'd share this, both to thank Lydia, Suzie, and Tyler- as well as the rest of the staff at the Olathe Public Library, and to encourage folks to go by and see. Small, but nice. Comfy chairs and large work tables. Very friendly and helpful staff. Relatively quiet considering the amount of traffic coming through and the amount of kiddos. Lots of DVDs. Problem is, the hours are very limited, only open until 5 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, doesn't open until noon on Saturday and 1 on Sunday. Seems like they need better funding to provide the service that they aspire to. read more

I've always loved Indian Creek Library, with its helpful staff, family-friendly programs, and small but good book selections. Now that they've moved into the new building I love it even more! What a wonderful place to be. It's beautiful to look at, thoughtfully designed, and there truly is something for everyone. If this is how the government's going to spend my tax money, they can have it! I'm so happy this is the library (and librarians) my kids will get to grow up with, and that I'll get to use. This is a secondary location of the Olathe library, so you shouldn't go expecting a whole that. That being said, for the space it has, it gets the job done quite well. It has a pretty decent selection, some fairly helpful staff, and a decent bank of computers. It could use a few more desks for working/studying, but I am not sure where they would fit them. If you go in expecting a massive library with a huge selection, you'll be disappointed. However, you'll likely come here because it's closer to your house than the primary Olathe location...and with that in mind, it'll work just fine. read more

I'm basing my review more on the children's programming than the library itself. Headed here for the first time about a month ago with my two-year-old son for a preschool dance party. As soon as the librarian announced that they were ready to begin, my little guy raced into the room faster than I could blink. For about an hour, they played a bunch of kid-friendly tunes and also had scarves out for the kids to wave around. After the program ended, my son played in the kid area for a little while. They had toys and a bunch of puzzles. My only annoyance was that one of the librarians was a bit anal with the kids being around the computers, in the kid area, that weren't even being used. Look forward to making the trek out to Olathe more often just so my son can enjoy more of the programming. read more

This is a small library with a nice selection of materials. Although Olathe has their own libraries, they work with JoCo libraries and if they do not have what you are looking for you can have it transferred from another location in JoCo. I am more interested in their online collection as I am awful at returning books and have paid for a good portion of the selection in late fees. The online collection is decent and a money saver over buying from other outlets. read more

A TOTAL DISGRACE!! Incompetent leadership at the Olathe Public library. Return drop box at 151st & Murlen has been out of service for 1 year. They should have had at a temporary replacement in place until the permanent one was put in place. No one in the area can return their library items. Can't believe it takes them 365 days to put back a drop box. Incompetent and slow staff who can't get anything done, they would be fired if they had a job at a private company. Smallish facility, it's nicely maintained and the librarians are helpful. The collection is not huge, but if you consider the possibilities of inter-library loans from other JoCo libraries (which is extremely easy online,) then you can get many of the things for which you might be searching. Parking is easy, as is the drive-up after-hours book drop at the back of the building. Not a lot in the way of reading nooks with cozy chairs, but if you go online & request your item, it'll be waiting on a hold shelf near the front desk where you can grab it, check out, and head home to your own cozy nook in record time. read more

the place is just temp until they get their ducks in the row to move to their new home, which will be bigger and better too, the old hy-vee store, better parking too, they have that right know and I use it more than I have done it before, the staff is friendly and nice, they are helpfull too, free wifi and unlike some places u on the wifii quick too read more

The librarians here are so nice! My boys beg to go the library each week and the staff is always so helpful and friendly in locating books that would match their personalities and reading levels. They have great family programs that engage children in reading. There are other libraries with larger selections, but this is our normal location to stop and pick up books on hold. read more
