Fantastic. My daughter's focus has improved a bunch and the kids really love Sensei Steve.

First of all, I am not one to complain. In fact, I have never written on Yelp before - good or bad…read more- but I do feel like I should "give a heads up" to parents who are looking to put their kids in karate, specifically Osuna Karate Calgary. I signed my 6 year old up for karate at Osuna but am disappointed with how they handle their classes and scheduling. 1) This karate company rents a gym from a school so if the school has an event on the weekend then there is no karate - and they do not give you more then a weeks notice if this is the case. For the month of April for instance, there are 4 Saturdays, 2 of which there is no class because of a school event and Easter and on the last Saturday there is a karate tournament the kids can attend, at a totally different location, if they would like. The first Saturday in April was taught by students of the main teacher/owner? 2) The class size is way to big. They call 4-6 year olds 'Little Tigers' and you would think they would cap the size of the class so that they could make sure every student was actually learning what was being taught but they do not. There are 20-30 kids in the class, if not more. 3) The main teacher/owner is great (his full time gig is marketing somewhere so the website is really well laid out and its SEO is high - go figure) and this is who you think will be teaching your child but by mid year you are getting his students and what ends up happening is these younger people just play karate games for the majority of the class with the kids instead of teaching them positioning, kicks or punches etc. OR they start the class late? I am all for karate games but not for the full 45 minute class. 4) It also seems a bit sneaky - I don't know, maybe previous parents have decided not to keep their child/children in the program after all of the cancelled Saturdays and lack of professional teaching - but at the beginning of the year you are required to pay for the first and last month (Sept. and June) classes and you are required to give one month notice if you want to remove your child from the program. I find this very odd that they require one months notice but don't give the same curtsey to parents in regard to letting them know when there is a cancelled class? AND it's almost like they are stealing the June money because if you decide to cancel and do give one months notice you do not get your June money back? Trust me, I asked. Anyway, so as nice as the owner and his wife is - and they really are - I will not be registering my daughter in their karate program next year and will not refer this program to other parents.

I had purchased a coupon online to check out Arashi Do martial arts, and boy, what a great buy!…read more I decided to try out their Cardio Kickboxing class yesterday for the first time. The Acadia location is on my way home from work, so it was perfect. The lady who signed me up at the desk, Laurie, was friendly and inviting and introduced me to everyone in the room. The guy who was leading the class, Chris, was a goofball and was joking with everyone. The class itself: AWESOME. I have done some kickboxing in the past in Montreal, and it quickly became my workout 'love'. I have checked out 3-4 other similar classes in Calgary to simulate the same experience in hopes of finding my favourite, and I think I finally have. Arashi-Do's Cardio Kickboxing class was a circuit-type, kickboxing-style training with the right combination of intense cardio, strength, kickboxing moves, and fun. I know quite a bit about fitness and am acquainted with a lot of different types of exercises, and yet they still managed to throw in a few exercises that I have never done/seen. This was a pleasant, and AWESOME surprise. At the end of the 45 minutes, my butt was thoroughly kicked, and I LOVED every minute of it. The only thing I regretted was not coming to check this class out earlier! The monthly prices they quoted me seemed a bit high, but I will worry about that once my coupon classes are over! I'm coming back Monday evening. And hope to continue Wednesday evenings. HIGHLY recommended if you like an intense kickass workout! Review #11 of Yelp's 30 Day Challenge 2012

Hi, I am pleased to offer a review of Britannia Karate, I cannot say enough good about this…read moreprogram! My son started out in the program at age 6 and has been working his way through the belts with expert guidance and care. He has increased is self confidence through repeated success in attaining various belts through the course of time culminating with the biggest effort yet, a full year of training geared to obtaining his first level of black belt. The best things one can do to foster a strong base for a child's future in sports is to teach them spatial awareness. There is nothing better than fine details of the routines which are the basis of Tang Soo Do to make your child aware of their what their body is doing. Students who have the competitive spirit have the opportunity to compete in tournaments against opponents from other clubs. For the most committed students there are opportunities to compete at the international level. Training from this club prepares students to complete at the international level and to WIN!!! The environment in this class is one of respect, training, education, and support. My son feels like he is part of the Tang Soo Do family. In the last year, my son has joined a competitive basketball league, his level of fitness, flexibility, respect and discipline (which were all well developed in Tang Soo Do) have prepared him to leap into the environment of Competitive Club Basketball and to thrive in it! My son recently entered a competition for spots to attend an entrepreneur camp. He was able to showcase the long term commitment and tangible results he has achieved in the Tang Soo Do Program on his first resume. In summary, Britannia Tang Soo Do under the leadership of Master Wood is the best thing I can imagine that I could have done for my young son. Master Wood and her team of professionals have my full recommendation as a fantastic Karate class for anyone at any age to join, grow, and thrive with! Dave Dalen (Karate Father)
