It's really hard to review four years of my life without it turning into a whole book, so I'll just…read morepick five things that I love about Ohio Wesleyan. 1) Class size and professor accessibility is outstanding. I went to a small high school in Rhode Island, so I couldn't even imagine going to a big state university with huge classes. Even intro classes at OWU are always under 50 people and usually under 30 people. Professors are extremely accessible, always make themselves readily available for students, and have a true passion for what they do. I honestly love the OWU faculty. 2) There's something for everyone out there. There are tons of different clubs and organizations, and not one is "mandatory" in order to have a social life. Greek life is great (I was a Greek), but, again, there is plenty to do even if that's not your scene. Different Greek organizations get along with one another and non-Greeks for the most part. If you're not involved in a fraternity or sorority, there are still tons of things to do, everything from intramurals (dodgeball, soccer, football, softball) to campus programming to student government to the newspaper to any number of different clubs and organizations. 3) Delaware, Ohio, is a really cool little town with a great suburban character that's only a few minutes from Columbus. After I graduated in 2008, things have gotten even cooler in downtown Delaware, with a new specialty beer store popping up right on the main drag and the expansion of a great brick-oven pizza place as well. And, with Columbus just 30 minutes away, there are plenty of opportunities for people looking to go to concerts, sporting events at Ohio State, or just hit the city for some fun. 4) The OWU student body is extremely engaged and passionate. I can't speak for every student on campus, but the vast majority of people I met were extremely passionate about something, and that passion was something that they were able to really tap into at OWU. Whether it's science, English, or the arts, OWU students have a real opportunity to express themselves. 5) OWU Men's Soccer, your NCAA Division III National Champions. Had to brag a little. :D

Every volunteer is knowledgeable and friendly. What a wonderful organization to have in our Central Ohio community -- and we are all the luckier for it. The fest is worth it at $10 per person, in my opinion. It helps support the center and that's a win. They have programming all year. Just be sure to get tickets early, as they get popular! Also: best maple syrup ever! I love it so much!

For the bargain price of $4 per person, I was expecting to spend approximately 30-40 minutes in a room learning about the syrup making process. Being wrong never felt so good! Having a reservation which I had paid for in advance, we checked in promptly where they suggested we borrow some of their boots due to muddy conditions & that proved needed as the terrain deiced. How awesome is that! Once everyone had their boots on we met fireside where our guide introduced herself, provided history of their facility & informed us of what to expect during our experience. Next stop: animal barn! Being the animal lover that I am, this was my absolute favorite part. Not only did I not know that this was included (bonus!), but I was so grateful to be able to get up close to the new calf & her mommy & see the oh so pregnant piggie. Even better we got to get in the sheep pin & the goat/llama pins where we could pet these adorable creatures. My heart was so happy I almost never wanted to leave, but it was time to move onto our next adventure... maple syrup! The walk from the animal barn to the maple syrup area was about 20 minutes. I imagine this varies based on weather conditions & the amount & ages of those on your tour. The scenery was absolutely breath-taking as the sun peeped through the leafless trees, casting beautiful shadows about. There was a dusting of snow on the ground & a crisp, icy terrain on the ground & the creek. As we walked we stopped periodically to learn about how to identify maple trees, the variety of maple trees in our area & all about how the seasons impacts the process. We got to see the process firsthand & I was surprised to see that the sap is clear. Once we arrived at the cabin we learned about the filtration system and the science of the sap to syrup process where we got to tast the sap & then the syrup. It is absolutely delicious & pure in taste without the senseless added sugar commonly found in those found in stores. Another interesting & entertaining moment came when we were shown how hot stones were placed in water inside a hollowed-out log. This experience delivered a lot of bang for your buck & it felt really good to support this local working farm. I am going to be sure to check their website for future events to explore.

Once we got inside it was so crowded with parents and kids bunched in together, you couldn't even get through without bumping into 5 other people. Got to where we needed to be and imagine my surprise that there is no viewing window! I specifically asked about this before signing up and was told we could see the kiddos- well yeah you can see them if you stand up, go to the class door, and look through like a small window on the door (picture a very small rectangle). So you'd have to walk in front of other parents and block this little window in order to see your kid. 100% was misled and I wasn't ok with it- who doesn't want to actually watch their 4 year old take their first dance lesson?! Not to mention the vibe of the whole place was off IMO. Decided we wouldn't be going back, so we called today to cancel and let them know why- was told they'd need a 30 day notice and I'd be charged for an additional week. So I was misled by your staff, wasn't satisfied with the experience, paid for a month (attended 1 class) and the deposit, and that's your response. Get out of here! I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody.

The staff is incredibly kind and patient with me, yet by gently encouraging me to step back and trust them with my daughter's growth I have watched my daughter blossom into a strong spirit, whereas she would barely let me leave her alone in the classroom two years ago. Not only has she developed technique and skill, but also friendships, confidence and passion about the art of dance! My daughter also has true connections with her teachers, so even when frustrated by the challenges of something new she wants to go right back to class the following week. The front desk staff always greets us by name which makes us feel like family; even the fellow parents are friendly and welcoming. Two things I like about NorthPointe: 1)that they can meet your child where he or she is, and take them as far as he or she would like to go, from just-for-fun-and-exercise all the way to Juilliard (a recent past student is now studying there under scholarship!). And 2) it's not just about DANCE-- it's also about building character and confidence, developing the person as a whole. So even if my child doesn't want to go to Juilliard, she is still developing skills that are essential in so many other areas of her life. There was an earlier negative reviewer on here mentioning her daughter having an issue with a class she tried out, and I am so glad she contacted the studio owner about her concerns. The reviewer mentioned that the owner said the instructor was in tears over the parent's complaint, and that is an excellent example of how seriously NorthPointe takes their standards. That the owner herself called the parent speaks volumes alone, that the teacher was so upset about the misunderstanding, and that the studio offered multiple solutions to this parent-- you can see the level of service NorthPointe provides, even when the parent has an alternate viewpoint of an experience. It seems to me that very few businesses operate this way these days, so for me, it's encouraging to hear that these concerns were addressed so appropriately.
