I have a very energetic breed - she could run 15 miles and still be ready to play. I needed a park that could give her a lot of room to run and this park is it.
Lots of big dogs come here to play after being cooped up all day and the owners usually pay decent enough attention. Because of the size of the park however, some owners don't follow after their dogs while they poop in the tree grove or behind the bristly bushes so, as Jimmy McMillan would say, "the amount of poop is too damn high!"
Its rare to see very small dogs here because much of the fence isn't chain link, its more those black gate fences that have several inches between each bar. Lots of big dog owners chose this park because the dogs are willing to get rowdy with each other.
This park is very long and many people use it as a shortcut from one end to the other. So far, the people have been super understanding about what it means to take a shortcut through an unleashed dog park. Some even enthusiastically play with the dogs that come beg for attention. I haven't seen any clothes ruined or people jumped on but I do worry for ladies with pantyhose in case a dog gets a little jumpy (though it hasn't happened yet).
Cons: There is no water source so that's a bummer - this place would be perfect for a hose and summer kiddie pool situation. Most of the grass is pretty torn up so it can be dusty or muddy after rain. Also, during the day (2-3pm ish), a person came there with literally 15-20 dogs in the back of her truck and lets them ALL loose in the park. NOT cool. Obviously, she can't have control over all the dogs nor pick up after each and every one of them.
My dog was bitten here once by a dog that was possessive of its ball. The owner was horrified and did pay for the vet bill (a puncture under my dogs neck). The owner was apologetic etc etc so definitely not a horror story though it was scary to hear my dog yelp like that. She does tuck her tail now when new big dogs approach her but after an initial sniff, she starts waggin like her old self.
Also there was a couple that came in here once with a little poodle and a baby with frilly socks dangling and swinging from the front (one of those baby harness things that people strap on their chest with the baby facing them). Well some of the dogs thought the socks were toys or something and though they didn't really do anything (a little sniffing, a little jumping, no biting or anything), the guy freaked. Just a little PSA - dog owners don't bring dogs to the kid park, so don't bring kids to the dog park. Lots of dogs aren't good with kids, either intentionally or because they don't realize you need to be gentle with a child. So don't bring a baby or child into a dog park where there are big dogs you don't know. read more
